I just bought my mom a betta fish. I surprised her with a fully set up live planted tank and gave her a card saying "one free betta fish coming to a desk near you." He has a large tank fully filtered and my mom got to pick out her betta. She loves him and talks to him daily before going to work.

I love how simple yet gorgeous that black gravel looks when you light up the tank. Really makes the colors of the fish pop in contrast. Great vibe. RIP Dom!

You got me in the first half! Just a heads up, that Otocinclus is a shoaling fish and they need to be in a group of 3 or more minimum, preferably 5 or more. I think that tank probably wouldn't be overstocked if you gave them 2 friends!

If that "friend" is Macrotocinclus affinis then it should be kept in a group of at least 5-6 fish. Now its alone, scared and with a very aggressive neighbour. If you want something to eat algae in a Betta tank then Neritina pulligera would be a better choice.

Not to mention a newly set up tank is lacking biofilms and algaes that they will typically eat and graze on too, they're best for more mature seasoned tanks.

Hey Luke, I got a smaller version of that Fluval tank recently. It's great, but apparently they're notorious for leaking. I had to reseal mine after only a month, which isn't a big deal, but fair warning

Years ago, Omega One was the best damn fish food around. Even hikari used a lot of wheat. I haven't bought fish food in years. But....... If I did... I'd look to see if O.1 is still around

I had a beta plus 20 years ago. I named him rubber for condom. I could put my finger at the glass and turn it. It would spin around. Lol

This feels so wholesome and adorable, beta fish are amazing. I had one in college named Titus and he was so cool, laying on his leaf hammock and would even follow my finger around
