The only part of this I don't like is the wire. Do this for me Sootch. Take that line, and tie lots of knots in it. Truckers hitch, bowline, larks head, clove hitch, cobra knots, and so on. Then tell me that wire does not become work hardened inside that sheath and break. I envision that wire breaking then poking out of the sheath in a sharp little barb that tears up light plastic or cuts you while your handling the line. The rest of it is a good idea. You can make lamp wicks from the jute, fish and snare with the mono line, and so on. The wire outside of being able to carry a current is a bit redundant to me and as I said above a possible hazard.

The monofilament fishing line would also present a problem, no? That stuff retains memory, so any knots and kinks that you put into it makes it harder to use as regular fishing line. If it was the braided stuff, it might make more sense, but then the fish would see it easier.

As an FYI, Your normal paracord is from Atwood Rope located a block from where we used to make spikes. They also have a rope similar to that called Parapocalypse cord. Also, the owners son is one of the largest You Tubers out there and is good friends with Demo Ranch. Their whole family is pro 2A.

As cordage its great. As a firestarter it works... As a fishing kit, unless you're going for Gar or Pike, it sucks (and leave it in tact except for your leader). The monofilament 25lb line make catching what should be easy fish (bluegills & perch) a very real challenge. The metal wire can have its uses.

A bit cheaper on Amazon, where I got mine, about $28 a 103ft hank. The cool thing is if you are careful you can take the extra stuff out of the cord, reseal the cord ends and use it as plain cordage still. Regardless, worth the extra weight and cost for the extra features IMO for sure!

I carry a 500 meter spool of "Paracord" which is actually almost twice as strong as Mil. Spec. Paracord. I always carry it in my "Survival Pack" that is in my pickup truck. My "Survival Pack" is very complete including a very small, very powerful take down bow with 2 dozen arrows and two blade single bevel broadheads. Snare wire too. Two waterproof tarps and a wool blanket sleep system good for subzero weather. I live in the mountain of the northeast. Oh yeah fishing equipment too. My "paracord" doesn't have waxed jute in it but my fire making kit has everything necessary to make fire even in a rainstorm.

I personally don't understand this product at all. You need to damage your cord to access things inside. You could just get those things separately for way easier access, I mean fishing line, wire etc are all extremely thin anyway and take almost no space. There are so many places where you can wrap and place those things inside the cord.

Apart from the thickness of the fishing line I'm super impressed with this paracord. A 6 lb or 8 lb test strength to the fishing line would be much more suitable for most survival situations as I'm sure the majority of fish caught won't be monster size. 25 lb line is fine for open water sea fishing but for freshwater situations a lighter line is essential for catching small fish (unless you're lucky enough to be catching Pacific salmon during breeding season). Nevertheless a heavy line doesn't have to be used for fishing and 25 lb is good for trapping purposes so it's all good since a properly put together bug out kit would have a comprehensive fishing kit in it anyway. Good stuff and thanks for the demonstration.

Unless you are in some northern Canada lakes where large Pike or lake trout are principal fish. In a survival situation u may not have access to leaders. Heavy line for Pike is best
@pondguru
@pondguru 2 жыл бұрын
@@TC72280808 Yes, that' definitely a situation where heavy line is needed. Where I am I'd be fishing mostly for trout up to 2 lbs with most being in the 0.5 lb - 1 lb range so a lighter line would work much better - I guess it's just a case of tailoring the kit to the environment it will be deployed in. In a similar way my go-to survival rifle is my Ruger 10/22 takedown as I would be mostly hunting rabbits, pheasants and pigeons but if I was in Northern Canada that wouldn't bring down larger deer species, elk, moose or a bear. I'd probably go with a 30-06 or a .243 in that region as the game would be much bigger.

While I like the idea of multifunctional gear I personally don't think that carrying this type of paracord is beneficial over carrying regular paracord. I much rather carry separate tinder, fishing line & paracord so I can use what I need when I need it without getting stuck with the rest of the cord that is now (temporarily) useless.
@heyoldtime8969

I did buy a hank of the Titan 550 cord thinking it was an essential innovation. However I do have some issues with it. When I made cuts I would burn the ends and a tiny piece of wire would stick out from the end. The wire don't burn and it will stick you. Secondly I noticed that when tying knots it was hard to tighten up the knot and was prone to slip . The cord is much stiffer than regular cord and doesn't form well. If you were putting a lot of force on the knot it may tie better. I just don't care for it..

Seems nice but feels like it’s a better idea to have your fishing line and wire separate from the cord to begin with so you don’t have to mess with the paracord to get to those items. It’s solving a problem that doesn’t exist imo.
@Notawhitef30
@Notawhitef30 2 жыл бұрын
I agree fully. It also creates a new problem. What to do with the parts of the cord that you're not using. As in: take out the fishing line, get stuck with the rest.

One more thing, this fancy survival gear is nice, but unless you know how to use it, it’s useless. Try using regular 550 cord to build a ridge line for a tarp shelter; try catching small game with snare wire; and try catching fish without a fishing pole. If you’ve got the skills then buy the fancy stuff.

The "Military Spec" label doesn't mean much considering 99% of the equipment you're given in the military is cheap junk and the military has absolutely horrific saftey standards as opposed to a civilian regulators like OSHA. It's kind of like knife companies bragging about their knives being made of "Surgical Steel" which sounds cool until you know that surgical steel is one of the lowest quality steels that you can get as it is only designed to be used once and then to be thrown away after surgery. I would do some more digging and find out what being certified "Military Spec" really means.
