2 years after recording I’ve just watched this. I feel so connected to your words: true survival does NOT equal putting yourself intentionally in a situation with mere discomfort. Survival = not dying because of what just happened to you. And that’s a totally different mindset indeed! Too many channels project the opposite: 100% gear focus because it looks “so cool”. Kits without food and water containers make no sense at all…. Keep up the good work 🙏🏻

Brilliant stuff. Its about time someone talked about this, for a long time it really ground my gears when people "practiced" survival. I dont believe you can practice survival. As you say its just inconvenient camping. Those unfortunate people who do get stuck in a real survival situation are not able to get themselves out of it but only to try their best to increase their chances, and also to make themselves as comfortable with their predicament as is possible. They may even attempt self rescue but nothing in true survival is guaranteed. Those that "practice" have every opportunity to remove themselves from the scenario they have created.

Another AWESOME video brother, and yes I'd like to see you do an overnighter with just those items, if you do I just might have to do a video of an overnighter or a three day with one of the kits I make and sell on Ebay.

i don't believe in ready-made survival kits that can be bought - it's just about getting the money out of people's pockets. For my understanding, I differentiate between a survival situation with the possibility of preparation or without. the variant without the possibility of preparation is ultimately about a lively spirit and organizational talent. I also don't understand how to take flammable material with you. what i always need, as you said, is water, then a knife and / or an axe. it's about getting along with what we find on site and making something out of it.

Hi Alex, Wow amazing video! This is the first video of yours I've seen. I just subscribed after recognizing your face/photos while I was researching the Grayl GeoPress. I love the mentality you spoke about here! Quick question. The items you ended your video with that you considered to be a good kit to carry on you, is this a kit that you carry daily no matter where you are, or only when you know you will be in the woods? Since the video, has anything changed in what you consider to be a good daily carry kit? Looks like just the stuff you had in your pockets already covered or got close to covering the 5 C's! I want you to come to Russian Valley and spend 4 days with just that kit, mate.. I will also just bring my pocket kit.. Ive been a champion of the Survival Smocks and pocket kit for over 15 years and still no one listens. They like these unrealistic tins and kits they want to buy from ppl they think care about them because they see these kits in unrealistic "survival" video's ... . Anyhow I think you are leaps and bounds above Dave Canterbury. Given the choice to take either of you into the wilds here (or anywhere) I would take you and throw stones at the man who suggested Dave Canterbury.. You're an amazing man who is so far ahead of most I dont think you even know it.. Greetings from Alaska.
