We wait out a winter storm 3/14/2019 in Colorado within our self built tiny house. Will it tip over in gusts past 60mph? Colorado Bomb Cyclone

Quick tip - you can put hay bales around the base of the house to keep wind from blowing underneath. Theyre a really good temp fix and if you have a green thumb you can use them for growing flowers/food as well.
@robyndaniell4345 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I thought about that, too. I thought it would save heat and other "tiny housers" use that as a wind block for outdoor dogs (people with pet huskies or malamutes that do come inside occasionally).

Before the snow gets heavy and thick always run a line (e,twine, etc) to vehicle, garage/barn etc. Even to a neighbors house if close enough. It's considered a lifeline. Keeps you from getting lost.

It's dangerous going out at night in a snow storm. My husband stepped on a snow covered landscape log in the backyard and broke his ankle and leg. I was in the house cooking with the exhaust fan on and couldn't hear him. The back door was locked so he had to crawl around the front up the steps to the kitchen porch. If I hadn't had the kitchen door open with a glass storm door I wouldn't have seen him on the porch. We were in the middle of the biggest winter storm in a decade. Snow was deep. I couldn't get him to the car to go to emergency 1/2 mile away. Then I saw a neighbor shoveling snow and asked for help. He was a big man and scooped my husband up and carried him to our jeep. If not for the neighbor and my jeep we would have been in a bad spot. Be careful out there!

When we had the blizzard in 93 here in eastern Tennessee I had just moved to the mountains. Got snowed in and power was off or 9 days. Loved it. Used fireplace and a stand by kerosene heater for heat and cooked on my camping stove and gas grill. Had kerosene lanterns for light and had plenty of food. Played in the snow and went sledding!! Only downside I lost my tropical fish and had no fan to sleep with lol. It was so quiet u could hear pine trees breaking and falling. Since we knew we were going to have a bad storm we were prepared for it.

God bless you Son! You got lucky!! I'm in Eastern El Paso county Colorado. My metal building suffered roof damage, and the road into my property was blocked by 10 foot deep snow. I went out an hour before dark to tend to the barn animals, and the frozen rain water, building snow and 60+mph winds (gusts to 90+), made walking tough, and although I made it to the barn OK, I got lost on the 250 foot walk back to my house. If it hadn't been for the Eastern fence line, I might have gotten totally lost. I have an M35A2 Deuce and a half just for weather like this, but didn't have it parked properly, and had to be rescued by a friend with an LMTV military truck. My power was also out for about 30 hours, and it was 22* in my bedroom Thursday morning. I got caught with my pants down this time, and even if it doesn't happen again, I'll be much better prepared.

Good suggestion about running a rope line, just for these kind of storms. This one was a one day affair, wait for a three day event, those are alot of fun, 3' on the flat and drifts as high as the roof tops. Been through a couple over the last 30+ years I live just east of the Springs.

I've been intrigued with tiny houses for months now and I'm tempted to buy a small lot of land and have a tiny house built on it. Going from a 2,500 sq ft house to a tiny house would definitely take time to get used to, but I'm tired of the big utility bills and the upkeep on a large house. I need to downsize and simplify.

Wow this looks eerie and beautiful. Love naughty weather. Rain, storm hurricane tornadoes, blizzards, bomb cyclones, (not tsunami) that's much too vicious, thunder lightning snow storm and the like!. - Not too much damage done come morning. The puppies love playing in the snow. Look really happy. Are You sure this is a tiny house? Oh yes, I can see the tiny house now. Thanks for sharing.

Omg this is terrifying weather!! I'm scared to death for you. I have never experienced a snow storm but I did survive the ice storm of 1994 in the MS Delta. No water no power for 2 weeks

yeah, we get pretty lucky out here, could always be worse
@jtrose69954 жыл бұрын
vickie lusby 2 weeks?? How did you manage?
@vickielusby65604 жыл бұрын
@@jtrose6995 we used outdoor grill to cook. We used water from the ditch with buckets for toilet water to flush. We traveled by car 50nmiles for drinking water and bathing water with large plastic containers. For heat we turned on the oven and used an old gas heater my dad connected to the gas line. This kept the two front rooms warm and we used blanket to block the hallway. Bathroom was cold only washups no baths. Everyone shared food in the neighborhood to keep food from spoiling items were kept in metal garbage can packed with ice. My mom and I washed clothes on a scrub board and tub we had in the garage and hung the clothes in the house to dry. It was a rough time but it brought some many people together. At night people would sit around and talk about how similar it was to them growing up. Overall I loved the experience and know what to do if I had to endure it again

Doggies love it! At least in little batches... glad you got the right breed for that territory! ❤️ House held up nicely and you too... glad to see that. New sub. 👍 ps - ever tht abt a nice deck all the way around your tiny house? Be nice to open your front door and not hv snow and rain directly in the house... sort of like a buffer zone. Plus, a good place for boots, coats, hats, gloves, shovels and other equipment and supplies. 👍

Yes, thats a nice thought for a add on, it would be nice not to have muddy boots in here

Lived most of my life in a mobile home in upstate NY. I was at the top of a hill and we suffered a severe thunderstorm that had windsheer just that tore up trees and flipped a 40 foot camper next to where we camped in a 21 foot camper. I rushed home because my home was new to the lot and didn't have tie downs. It shook like hell but stayed up right. Felt much better when the tie downs had us secure. We got severe lake effect snow and wind, especially when we first moved there. We were at the top of a steep hill with no trees for protection. Lived there 20 years and lost power many times. I bought a wall mounted propane heater that we put feet on to use as emergency heat,I kept it ready and out of the way with a full tank. As long as you are prepared, it will be ok. I am not in NY and rent now. Sure wish I had my propane kitchen stove. Propane, a fireplace or even a kerosene heater can do double duty. I cooked many a meal on top of my wood stove and have done it on a kerosene stove. You do what you must to survive. I love your house. If I didn't have two grandkids living with me, it would be my dream home. The snow and wind reminded me of home. I have pictures that shock people when they see them. I was in a rural area between Rochester and Syracuse about 12 miles from Lake Ontario. We REALLY got snow and wind.
@LifeofLind5 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a lovely place. I can't wait to get a wood stove
@McDougle6255 жыл бұрын
You need to plant tiny trees out there for tiny wind breaks. I'd make a tiny garage for a tiny car too. Maybe if you add on a tiny expansion onto the barn you could pull your tiny home into it to survive for a tiny time during the next bomb cyclone.
