A camping adventure quickly turns into a survival mission as I try to get off the mountain to escape the snowstorm.
PLEASE DON'T TRY TO RECREATE ANYTHING YOU SEE IN MY VIDEOS!
Climbing/hiking/camping in the mountains in the winter should only be done with proper mountaineering training, experience, and equipment.
P.S. I was never in any serious danger as I had the proper gear and experience to deal with the situation.

UPDATE: The owner of the Zasavska hut commented under my video saying the bivouac is open, and the door probably just froze shut because of the changing warm and cold temperatures lately. He also said they are gonna look into it and try to fix the problem. When I tried to open the door I did apply quite a lot of force, but when I saw the door lock I instantly thought it was locked… If I knew it was just frozen then I would slam into the door… but at that time I didn’t know, so I didn’t want to break anything. I'm sorry for spreading false information. At that time I was 100% sure the bivouac was locked. And a huge thanks to all the people taking care of the bivouacs and mountain huts.

Happened to me a few times. It can be devastating at times. But if youre smart you’ll be prepared for the worst case. Well done

That was exciting to watch, although a bit stressful being out there l imagine. You showed us how seriously you take the mountains (2 torches etc), and marking trail with poles, and your laid back nature as you opted for an evening meal before you finished. Hopefully the locked bivi situation will be sorted out- could have being really serious for you. Great stuff Andraž

Thank you, Howard! For me, I think it was more disappointing than stressful. I was prepared for anything, so I knew I could get down safely, but it was quite frustrating to realize I need to go back down in the dark instead of enjoying a nice warm meal in the bivouac. And about the bivouac... A caretaker of the hut commented on my video and said that it's open, and it probably just froze shut. However I did apply quite a lot of force, but when I saw the door lock I instantly thought that it’s locked… If I knew it’s just frozen then I would slam into the door… but at that time I didn’t know, so I didn’t want to break anything.

Staying calm with a clear mind in situations like that is incredible, respect. I would have shit my pants going back down in the dark, haha. Frutabela is king, as always!

Lesson learned : in Slovenian mountains always bring a crowbar with you haha. Malo v šali ampak tako presenečenje bi se za nekoga lahko končalo precej bolj katastrofalno. Hvala za še en super video.

I've seen closed bivouacs in Slovenia, Italy and Austria. I am guessing that they need to be repaired or renovated. And a few huts require a key, which you can get at the local alpine club. So it's always a good idea to search before, if there is any information on the bivouac.

You can spend the night in the nearby bivouac (winter room), equipped with 24 beds and blankets." Not in this case. It's just sad.

Another banger from the champ! Every time he uploads I drop it all to see what the champ has been up to! What a turn of events it was, the snow was unforgivable but the champ prevailed! It was a shame the bivouac was locked but it is not a problem, soon the subs will be on the millions and Frutabela will start to pay thousands! The champ will get a bivouac for himself on each peak of Slovenia!

Odlična tura in super video si posnel Andraž. Na srečo si bil res dobro pripravljen in se je vse srečno končalo. Je pa nesprejemljivo, da je bivak zaklenjen.

bivak ni zaklenjen, razen v sezoni. Težava je zaradi snega, na pragu se je po vsej verjetnosti primrznu, je pa res, da je prejšnji dan padal ledeni dež, pride vsepovsod, ker nam je kamera blokirala zjutraj in je po določenem času led popustil. Mi je zelo žal, da se je to zgodilo in da je bilo hitro v zavetrje v dolino. Srečno.

@@benjaminkampus3816 Po komentarju sodeč predvidevam da si eden izmed oskrbnikov. Prvo kot prvo vam hvala vsem tistim, ki skrbite za bivake. Z videom nisem hotel metati slabe luči na oskrbnike. Iskreno sem mislil da je zaklenjen, ker sem uporabil kar nekaj sile, ampak nisem pa hotel pretiravat, da nebi kaj polomil. Če bi takrat vedel, da je pomrznjeno, bi probal še malo bolj potisnit. Hvala za info in lep pozdrav!

Zdravo. Čisto razumem, potezoin vprašanje kaj bi jaz naredil v takem primeru. Veliko ni bilo za razmišljanje. Ampak ukreoanje takoj. Če se ne umakneš pravočasno lahko za vedno ostaneš tam, kar pa mislim, da ni namen ture. Snega je apsolutno premalo, da se človek umakne v zavetje itd. Bom pa tehnično preveril zakaj se to dogaja in kako ta problem rešiti. Bilo pa je zvečer kar nekaj dni blizu 10 minusa pa nekje od -4. Še veliko tur želim. Sem pa ja gospodar Zasavske koče, v letih 82 do 1986 sem bil za oskrbnika na koči. LP Beno.

Še dobro, da je lastnik koče videl video in objasnil zadevo :) Nisem želel metati slabe luči na oskrbnike, ampak takrat sem bil res 100% prepričan da je zaklenjena. V novem pinned komentarju pod tem videom sem objasnil situacijo, da se nebo lažna novica širila še naprej.

Bivak je odklenjen, ker je bip pred nekaj dnevi obiskan, po mojem se je primrznil, kot se vidi je spodaj kar nekaj snega.

@@benjaminkampus3816 Bom delil informacijo! Ampak res nisem niti pomislil da bi bilo pomrznjeno, ker sem uporabil precej sile. (večkrat sem tudi probal odpreti "off camera") Moja prva misel je bila, da je zaklenjeno, ko sem zagledal ključavnico :)

OK tole je s tvojimi izkusnjami super, sam drugac zelo zelo neresno s strani oskrbnikov. Ob koncu sezone v jesenskih mesecih je bil bivak vedno odklenjen, pa saj bivak ne sme bit zaklenjen? Si poizvedoval kaj vec?

Še dobro, da sem pogledal video, ker sem se tudi sam nameraval odpraviti letos v tej smeri. Zna bit, da je kdo bil tam in prišel na idejo, da si ključ vzame s seboj? Tudi mene bi zanimalo kaj porečejo skrbniki. Enkrat se mi je na skuti zgodilo, da so se "prebivalci" kar zaprli noter in niso hoteli odpreti. Sem že bil pripravljen uporabit cepin... Bivak ne bi smel biti na ključavnico.

včeraj zjutraj ali predvčerajšnjim, je bila težava s kamero, ki je zamrznila in je imela zjutraj omejeno gibanje. kot kaže je je padal zmrznjen dež in glede da piha nosi to vsepovsod, zato so se vrata primrznila ali cela na tesnilu ali pa samo spodaj odpirajo se pa navznoter. @@hpetercek

Hi Andraz. Do you know what kind of conditions are on top of the Triglav right now? We were planing a hike to the top next week, I am wondering is the time suitable for hiking or there is a decent snow around and crampons are needed even on hiking routes?

There is 2 meters of snow… You shouldn’t go above 1600m without the proper winter equipment and knowledge on how to use it!

Extra clothes, first aid kit, bivvy bag, and when there’s a danger of avalanches I also have the avalanche rescue gear of course.
