Join me on a solo ice climbing journey in the dark. Despite it being quite cold, there wasn't much ice to work with. I had to be very careful, especially in the last pitch. #climbing #mountains #outdoors

Hey Andraz, I really enjoy your Videos. I like your mountaineering-style and how you love the mountains. But i have to say since you start your solo-ice climbing journeys i start to worry about you. I am not an expert in ice iceclimbing, but from all i know i believe that this wont go good forever. Just because you can never really predict the behaviour of the ice of every step of a ice climbing Route. And i "lost" already some alpine youtubers who uploaded once their last video video. Maybe you think about that and speak with some really Experienced guides how they think about that stuff. Of course i keep enjoying all of your vids and hope you will be safe all along your alpine career. Cheers, Felix from Germany

Thank you, I really appreciate it! But please stop with these negative thoughts… First of all… I am a professional and am well aware of what I’m doing and what kind of risks I’m taking. Second… well prepared free solo in a controlled environment within your limits can be safer than most long winter alpine hard routes on rope… third… I do not plan to stop climbing anytime soon, and people who comment such things do more harm than good… Alpinism is a mental game, and when you constantly read comments about falling and dying, such stuff can get in your head without even knowing… which makes you question your abilities and makes it more dangerous. And lastly, I don’t plan to push the limits of free soloing. I know I’ve done a lot of soloing the past year, but I’m for sure gonna do less of it in the future.

Congratulations MASTER Egart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FREE-SOLO climbing - winter night !!!!!!!!!!!!!! CHAPEAU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nice video, very interesting!!!!! She told the truth (never climb with other climbers above us) very dangerous due to the pieces of ice that can hit us!!! One thing that amazed me was climbing without gloves!!!!!! CHAPEAU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If he continues master great climbs await him!!!!! Example: Cassin Spur in the JORASSES or Route Heckmair in the NORTH of the EIGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Genuienly one of my favorite youtube channel! Im so hyped for every new video haha. I want to start rock climbing with a friend, we'll go to a bouldering gym regularly and then wanted to go rock climb, but do we need an instructor for that or can we learn it ourselves?
@petertheduke15 ай бұрын
if you watch certified tutorials and practice allot then there is no reason to do it yourself. climbing is dangerous and if you don't make sure you know everything honestly you may hurt yourself or worse and then maybe never climb or even worse be stuck in a bed for the rest of your life. take responsibility by being honest with how much you know before you climb outside and start slow. all the gear needed to do 1 sport route is actually not cheap . you need like 14 quick draws at a minimum. if you look how much information is available online compared to olden days you should be fine using certified online video.
@robertgarcia84405 ай бұрын
Same andraz deserves so much more attention his videos so soothing, almost therapeutic.
@andrazegart5 ай бұрын
Thank you! I really appreciate that 🙏 Although online videos are great and all, but I still recommend attending a course for sport climbing in person, because you’re gonna learn a lot more, and it’s gonna be much safer than gathering experience on your own! And if you wish to progress from sport climbing into trad/alpine/ice climbing, then alpine courses are mandatory! Good luck 🙌😊

Pay attention to safety. I just got into ice climbing last week. I learned quickly after training for two days. However, two serious accidents occurred at our training base and someone died, so it is better to be careful.
@andrazegart5 ай бұрын
Nice, I wish you all the best with your ice climbing! Wow, what kind of “training base” is that?!? Beginners should be starting in a safe environment on top rope with minimal risk.
@Cycle_13375 ай бұрын
yes.we all top rope first.The two people who died were both coaches. One made a very low-level mistake (he slipped on his left foot while stepping on the right foot and then slid all the way to the bottom. The other was a pioneer who fell while hanging the rope and hit his head on the ice wall)@@andrazegart

Nice vid youth... When we get some ice in North Wales it often sounds like that. Whereabouts are you climbing?
@andrazegart5 ай бұрын
Thank you! Do you have any decent ice climbing in North Wales, or is it usually too warm? I’m from Slovenia (Gorenjska region).
@philwaters97514 ай бұрын
Yes but rarely these days. Some of it very good with a good 2-3 week freeze. But it can go within a day. Lots of mixed over the past few decades, but again, short lived. I used to fly to europe on cheap sj=ki deals back in the 80's and 90's. Now that's gone too. But we do have... The Chalk! @@andrazegart

what do you look for when you're trying to find the spots to hook onto the ice?
@andrazegart5 ай бұрын
It’s best to look for “dents/valleys” in the ice, because the “hills/bumps” are more likely to break.
