In Singapore, there are 22 night shelters or Safe Sound Sleeping Places (S3Ps), and six transitional shelters, providing temporary refuge for the homeless population as they await the availability of subsidised public rental flats. Shelter space is sufficient, but having a roof to sleep under comes with a slew of rules to follow.
In part two of the series, we follow the lives of six homeless individuals as they face the unexpected challenges of sleeping in temporary shelters. What happens when they break the rules?

@@lindc1070, This is the reason for her present predicament. Many people will plan to avoid this kind of predicament. I notice that a lot of people get into a pickle bcs of wrong decisions. I don't want to be homeless at half her age. Why did she sell her home to start a biz at an advanced age? She had not been practical or realistic. If she had planned well she could be living a fab life now.
@lindc1070

@@thescribe7117 exactly. In Singapord those who end up homeless either made very bad decisions or have mental illness. I think Darius does as he cant follow any rules. The govt heavily subsidises hdb, a studio with shorter lease is quite affordable and older folks are eligible. Or get a brand new 2 room from hdb.Subsidies make it very affordable.
@thescribe7117

@@lindc1070 I agree. Life in Sg seems untenable to me so I guess the stress gets to some people like Darius who should live in a laid-back country. When I was watching Md Yeo's segment I was thinking if she had bought a studio hdb after selling her private condo then use the balance to do her biz I guess she wouldn't be in this quandary even if she had lost all her investments. In fact I was surprised that at such a late age she still had the thought of going into a full-blown biz with such a big investment. At this age by right she should not need to work if she had planned well since I think she does not have children. Also it is not for us to say but I was wondering what's behind that boyfriend story? In such a relationship would an older woman's interests be a man's top priority, especially if he's younger. Could he have caused her to be so reckless with her decision to sell her private condo,pouring all the money realised into the new biz? I think her story has a behind-the-scenes reality Lolz *shaking my head*.

Mdm Yeo has such a positive spirit and just seemed like a genuinely kind and nice person. I hope she and mr ho manage to find a rental flat and spend the rest of their lives happily with each other. As for Tok and Roslan, I hope they could somehow resolve their differences or if not just move on as strangers since they won’t be living together anymore. However I do think the shelter or that Edward guy could’ve installed cctvs to find out who is lying instead of evicting Tok right away. It’s unfair to him if he is indeed innocent.

Hmm, in my opinion, it's not really about who's lying; especially since in conflicts usually everyone is right, if that makes sense. Everyone is just 'reacting' based on their realities and difficulties/ stresses, so it's not fair to imply that one person is totally at fault, because we all have a role to play in triggering each other. What's more important to me is having them both take responsibility for managing their anger at each other.

Darius may have some unresolved issues in his background that's why he is like that. When parents can so easily kick their kid out like that suggests possible lack of emotional attachment and possible abuse/neglect. I hope he finds his way through his storm without too much self destruction. Kids who join gangs are often searching for family, love and attachments they didn't receive at home. But Nabilah and Raihan are some real nice kids, a true testament to their mother's loving nature and hardwork. Allah bless her through them and Allah bless them both in all that they do.

I think there should be places that the government sets up that are run by homeless people for the homeless. This will give them a chance to work and earn their way. Many of these people are hard working and have skills, we should provide a safe space for them to do this. Bless them all and I hope they all find permanent homes soon. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️.

This is very sad! My heart just breaks seeing this. I am South African citizen, I worked in Singapore many years ago. Its such a beautiful state and when I was there, there were no homeless people. Its so sad to see people there without a home. I can only pray that the Singapore government (which has always been a very good one) will assist homeless people to be housed. I wish I were there to also help and assist in whatever way I can. Maybe I will do that in the near future.

Being homeless is a tough situation. My family and I were homeless in my last year of school. Financial problems. My mom had borrowed money for friends who promised to pay her back, they never did. Family never helped. A few friends helped but only for a short time and because money ran out. These were people that my mother helped often. It was a tough year. God is faithful. I managed to finish school with all that stress and get a job and place to stay for me and family. We started over. We had lost and sold everything. The most painful thing was giving our dog away. He cried so much. 22 yrs later I still cry when I think of him, that hurt the most.

Those churches in Singapore... .... are not to be expected like those churches in your country. There are fake Christians out there but... ... the situation in Singapore WILL VERY LIKELY be rather... ... concentrated. Hahahahahahahahaha... ... Singapore will need someone who can handle the mess to be in power to do anything; but that's very unlikely. Loong's situation means... ... the next PM hence the team for the job and hence the government HRM down to the bottom will be those parasites who can't function proper, if they even move in the first place. Isn't that so obvious after all these years. Nay.... ... after all these decades? Just compare the current PAP to the PAP when Lee Kuan Yew and Toh Chin Chye and Goh Keng Swee were running about to set things up... ... and weed out those f-kers to the current bunch. Not hard to see eh... ... In real, basically... ... PAP itself will have to first revitalised before you can expect any 'help'. It is a complete mess right now. So... ...

Homeless people doesnt have any chance to find shelter.. except maybe their families or friends or neighboors or random kind hearted people helping them to settle "for a while".. which is very rarely to be happen.. No shelter place for homeless people in my country.. What i see in this documentary.. Singapore shelter have so much better housing than over half population in my country.. So if any of them feel ungrateful for whatever it's situation in shelter.. well really i'm speechless..

Technically as a Singaporean I’m homeless in Singapore too due to a bitter divorce and my ex not abiding my the judges rule to sell the house and return and CPE monies.. as a result, I’m living overseas where my salary can afford me a shelter over my head and food to eat at a fraction of the price of what the rental and living costs is in Singapore

My rankings for this episode: 1. Mdm Yeo 2. Raihan + family - I applaud their courage for saying no to the abusive person and leaving without bringing much with them 3. Tok - seems like a person set in their ways.. then again he is in his late 60s 4. Roselan - something about him that doesn't seem right, he doesn't smile. Have to give him props for asking for permission and accepting the answer. 5. Darius - hopefully he learnt a lesson after being discharged. The rules for the shelters are there to ensure least disruption for users as explained by the staff member. A big thumbs up for Anthea, seems like she really loves her job.

Air ticket will def be an issue for him. On the other hand also there are people that have no property in SG or overseas which also means they are in a much more "urgent" situation than him in this case. There's really no perfect answer to this homelessness issue 😢 the government can't give them all they need if everyone starts losing their homes and using their $ mindlessly everyone would end up in these subsidized homes. These situations are hard to manage and the way they deal with it is to set strict laws and rules to try to prioritize the rough sleepers accordingly

There's a very fine thin line between accepting your fate so you can move forward in life and getting used to your circumstances then never moving on from there. Most of them are in the 2 category & clearly doesn't have anyone significant in their life to help them believe that change is possible. Material gains can only go so far as harsh as it may sound. They need to trigger a change and endure that short period of suffering to move foward. That's how harsh life is and it's not any easier here in Singapore since humans are the only main resource.
