Putting supplies on the Drillevator like you said feels like a good solution, since I kinda doubt they would increase its size much if at all. Thinking about it though I almost feel like having a guaranteed breakdown halfway through where the bugs slow down or stop would be a solution, perhaps with some supplies popping out when it happens.
