I have been researching the CGM all over internet. I like your videos best and I'll tell you why I like them: - you speak in a normal pace voice. Not too fast so I can't absorb infor and you are not a slow talker, some people just speak slow without inflection. - when you demonstrate products you show them to the camera long enough to get a look at them. I appreciate you using drug store brands, it is more practical for those of us who are starting out getting to know our hair.

@@SwavyCurlyCourtney you could try to just dont wash your hair with shampoo for over a week. And yes your hair will get very greasy and you will want to watch it, but TRUST me. After this your hair will know like "oh she isnt stripping my oils so I dont have to creat more oils to counteract" I couldnt go 1 day without washing my hair with shampoo it it would be greasy AF then I just stopped with washing it at all for about two weeks and went to some creasy f hell and just wore my hair up for most of the time but when I came at the end of the first week a saw that my hair actually wasnt that creasy anymore, and this went on for the whole other week to. Now i can go on for over more than a week without washing my hair with shampoo and it not getting creasy at all. It truely is SO amazing. My hair looks so much better and healthier now because of this. ps: sorry for the terrible spelling. My 1st language isnt english and I am typing pretty fast as well. I hope you can look over it :)

My tip: get a moderately-priced combo of cleanser/conditioner/styler, and then, when you're ready to try something new, change ONE thing at a time. In the beginning, I drove myself insane trying different products, brands, and styling techniques every wash day. Of course it took me longer to learn what my hair needs!Another survival strategy (and I'm totally serious!) Get yourself a striking pair of earrings or a bold lipstick shade. On those days when your hair turns out disastrous, pin it back, and throw on your stunning lipstick or fabulous earrings. People will have something else to take in first, before they can even notice that your hair decided to misbehave.

Haha, I'm currently in that phase of going insane buying too many products! It's hard when you're starting out and clicking on so many videos and seeing so many different "holy grail" products, I feel like I need them all. Now I'll have three or four gels sitting in my cabinet. Oops!

If you do the Curly Girl routine (The REAL Curly Girl routine; most of what you see on KZfaq is actually modified Curly Girl, which doesn't make it bad but it's not the actual method) you will find yourself using a lot less product but having a lot less frizz. Get the book and study it!! It took me almost 5 years to be able to do it 100%. I no longer do it because I dye my hair but if I ever let it go gray, I will go right back to it. My hair was never so beautiful and frizz-free! And so much less expensive!

Seeing your transition pics is SO inspiring! They look so much like what my hair does whenever I try CGM for a few weeks. I always give up because I think my hair just isn't curly enough to justify the work and it looks fine when I don't do anything with it. My biggest challenge is always being able to look professional during the transition!

Half and half cocoa powder and cornstarch for brunettes. Applied with a makeup brush. You don’t have to rub it in if you use a make up brush. Finger coiling is helpful during transition when every curl clump wants to do something different. It works best if you use a styling product with good slip.

For saving my day multiple times! Bobby pins, headbands anything to help you through! And.....like Courtney said, learn to laugh at yourself and stop taking it so seriously, it's just hair after all! your hair in those early transition pictures look EXACTLY LIKE MINE RIGHT NOW. i never thought i could possibly have curly hair because it brushes out so easily, but it hit me that my dad has curly hair (it’s been buzzed for decades) and my mom has very thick wavy hair that she probably never tried to get curls out of (and it’s been VERY short for decades). my hair is wavy and tangly when it’s wet which recently made me realize that probably means something. its bleached and colored and feels like straw when I do the curly girl method but i am DETERMINED. since starting this method and using curly hair products I’ve stopped losing hair in the shower. and for YEARS i was losing CLUMPS every shower and i thought it was hormones! now i barely lose anything! thank you for your AMAZING videos!

FYI for the dark-haired curly girls: fine rice flour works great as a dry shampoo on dark hair because rice flour turns clear once it has absorbed moisture! My hair is about a level 4 neutral brown and I put it in at night before bed to wake up to nice dry roots in the morning!

You can DIY dry shampoo - Arrowroot powder (avoids any issues with corn) you can add essential oils for fragrance - I'd suggest Rosemary + Peppermint - or Arborvitae You can also add a little cacao powder if you have very dark hair!

Tip for applying baby powder as dry shampoo (I did it in high school as it was cheap) if you put it in a container (I used to use an old makeup container personally) you can use a fluffy powder brush that’s meant for makeup and get a really fine coating that absorbs oil and doesn’t make your head look as snowy. I’ve been using this for years and only occasionally use spray dry shampoo now and that’s usually when I get it given to me :) hope that my tips help someone out!

4th wash day using modified CG method here... I’m so glad I came across this video because I am definitely getting discouraged. I can never diffuse it correctly and never clump it correctly. I have 2/a waves now... but i feel there’s more potential due to former damage. But I haven’t died my hair in 1 year and I’ve cut it 2 times so far.

This makes me feel better. On the weekends, I will take breaks. So on Saturday and Sunday, nothing. I wanted to make sure that was okay. Because I just can’t keep it up all the time at the moment. Thank you! My hair still looks the same. Frizzy and sorta wavy. But it is SOO much softer since beginning this process. I still go 3-4 days in between washes. Used to, I could only go 2-3 days. However, I have a low porosity hair. I used to use baby powder in high school for dry shampoo! But sometimes I wouldn’t mix it in enough and it looked lighter. 😂😂😂

Tip....if u have brown hair.... 50/50 mix with cornstarch, babypowder or arrowroot powder --- and cocoa powder. Like for baking not nesquik ***arrowroot powder is my preference but its hard ro find n more expensive (health food store) Just brush it on with a makeup brush. Dont get it on ur scalp tho bc it will turn darker n be more niceable. I store mine inside the cocoa coontainer...tip....tap off the brush prior so i dont get top much kn there.

My day 2 no product hair looks like Don King. Your day 2 hair is very straight and what my straightened day 2 hair used to look like. But it was good to see this video because I now realize that we have very different hair and that the products you use do not work on my hair type. Most of those products contain a good amount of protein, which makes my hair look stringy and feel dry and brittle. Took me awhile to figure out my hair responds better to protein-free products. I'm still in the transition phase, but my hair is lighter, has more waves, is bouncier, and feels so much better. I'm also one of the weird ones that can wash my hair daily and clarify once a week. I do appreciate all your videos and seeing how the CGM has transformed from when I first discovered it in 2011 and had my Deva cut from Devachan in NY. Unfortunately, I could never get my hair to look like that day ever again and now I realize it's because of how heavy and protein-laden most CG products are.

You are a godsend! ❤ I'm honestly pretty frustrated already - and the floor in my tiny tiny bathroom is getting more and more slippery by the day 😅 I should probably update my cleaning routine so it keeps up with my hair routine 🤔

Just started my curly girl journey last week!! (I’m 17) and even though I know it takes time and trial and error, it can be frustrating to not see results (esp when I feel like I’m doing stuff wrong)!! Thanks for this video and all the tips, I will be sure to use them :)

Hang in there! Just remember: it's a Journey, not a destination. Hair is just like life, just about the time we think we've got it figured out, it changes! You're not doing anything wrong, just remember what Alexander Bell said about failure (paraphrasing here) "I've figured out 1000 ways how Not to do it!" 🤗🤗🤗

Just started today and I already see a difference. Went from frizzy 1b-2b, and became 2b all-over just from washing it in the right way with the same products 😂

I like using cornstarch as dry shampoo, but since I’m a brunette, I make half- cocoa powder and half cornstarch! I’m so glad you mentioned it!

I have very dark brunette hair and I have used baby powder successfully often and did not need to add any coco powder for any darker haired gals that are worried 😁 Just use smaller amounts and build on it until you get the desired feel/look, you can always add more, but you can't take away 😉

Yes! I just started my wavy journey a month ago, my hair is so dry and limp from being colored. It looks like the first picture you showed of your hair. I'm going to schedule a chop for those dry ends, hopefully that will help! Your content has helped me so much, keeps me encouraged that I can have the hair I want!

Good luck, Susan! I cut off about 5 inches of my hair after a couple of months of trying the CGM...at first, I felt major regret about bringing my hair up to chin length, but I honestly believe it sped up both my learning curve and the rate in which my hair took to my efforts.

Thank you for this video, I started the curly girl 1 month ago and yes am very confused, I cannot afford to go out and buy lots of different products at the moment so am buying the odd product as I go and also trying out what works. Knowing the tips from this video have helped me want to keep going and actually relieve the pressure of doing the routine every wash and I shall now go product free regularly. Still unsure what my hair actually needs but it’s all trial and error. Thank you again x

I wear my hair up A LOT during this transition. I either put it in a claw clip or use a "bird cage" bun holder, then I use a headband like the one you showed. I can't pull my hair back from my face like that because I have a very large forehead, and I look kinda like an alien! I side part it too to help with the big forehead issue too!

I have watched several of your videos. You are so funny and remind me of one of my friends. I do not really have damaged hair. Because I always had straight hair I have been a lazy styler. Suddenly my hair is growing in with bends. Some strands are even legit curls but once I air dry it's way less bendy. And I don't know what to do with it! I have fine hair, medium density, and apparently high porosity. I typically didn't use conditioner because it makes my roots sore. Maybe every third wash I'd put conditioner on the ends. Thanks to your explanation in another video I grabbed a silicone free conditioner and I'm shocked how light my hair felt after drying. Seeing your air dried "unstyled" hair has given me major inspiration to try some of the stylers you've shown. Long post short, thanks for showing your natural air dried hair!
