Congrats to Stephen! Great hearing from Owen again. I thought the premiere had some fun moments and it felt like a different atmosphere from the previous seasons to me, despite being mostly the same format. I also was enjoying the hot mess Lulu tribe and didn’t mind that Hannah bowed out. The cast didn’t really stand out to me in my limited preseason experience, but I enjoyed the characters we got to see tonight and am excited to see more!

Jeff apparently mentioned on the podcast that he told casting they need to take notes on Hannah cause they clearly missed something. That something was definitely her being soft when it came to nicotine withdrawal.

@@lolabush2201 From what I remember, James Clement got nicotine patches when he competed on Micronesia, but he didn't on HvV. I'm assuming based on that info that contestants aren't given nicotine patches anymore, which explains her decision to quit (Shouldn't have casted her to begin with though).

Hannah mentioned being worried about people being mad at her for basically quitting. I'm not angry at her. Angry isn't really the right word, it's more just a wondering who the heck let her be cast? With how quick she broke down, I flat don't believe nobody noticed and raised questions.

Other than mistake of casting Hannah, feel like producers made the tribes too physically imbalanced. Feel like 3 or even 4 people on Lulu can be described as weak links. Kaleb can only carry so much

About the non-journey talk around 30:00 I think we all got excited about the longer (90 min) episodes we are getting this season, but if I'm not mistaken, we are forgetting that 90 minutes is a shorter episode length for the premiere (I think they were usually 2hour premieres) so it made sens that we didn't have the journey to ship wheel island.

Gabler mentioned playing his shot in the dark on episode 1 and got persuaded not to by Ellie. Brandon mentioned playing his shot in the dark on the premiere and eventually did not end up playing it. Also, Brandon got air time during the initial mat chat. Is Brandon our S45 winner? Is Brandon the love child of Maryanne and Gabler? 2+3 = 5 after all.

I kinda doubt it, Lulu is absolutely going to tribal again and if he remains a liability in the challenges, they’ll probably just cut him. I see Emily getting that pre-merge “she somehow keeps slipping by each tribal despite no one liking her” edit a la Alecia from Kaoh Rong.

I feel like the survivor new era almost made a lot of people sensitive to a “villain” type of player, like if this was Russell people wouldn’t bat and eye, I think we are being a a-bit to harsh on Emily, you can’t expect someone to change there core values and morals for a group of strangers, she is just being her self 110% and honestly I think real will respect real and she will go far this season

He seems like a very nice person that I would want to protect in real life, but he’s so not cut out for this game. Not everyone needs to be a physical powerhouse, but so far I’m not seeing any survival skills (shelter building), puzzle skills, strategic skills, etc. Hopefully he proves me wrong but I can’t imagine going on Survivor without training HARD for weeks to months.

@@jinxthesweet unconscious bias does exist and it is something to look for in a person's gameplay. The fact is that this cast has 5 people on it that present as black and she has targeted 3 of them is a bad look. This is something that can easily be used against her if she keeps it up. Just look at Survivor 42, Drea was saved due to race politics and in Survivor 19 Bens racism played a part in him being voted out. There have been plenty of studies done on survivor that show contestants favor certain demographics (white, straight, male, in their 30s). You can have your own opinion on Emily, but this issue is something to keep an eye on

Okay so, Hannah clearly wasn’t ready for the show, that being said it’s 50/50 her fault and castings fault. Along with that. If you saw the rest of your tribe would you want to stay given the fact you have no shelter, no flint and a tribe that is clearly doomed? Hannah doesn’t possess the true survivor spirit but her tribe is going to crash and burn unless there’s a swap, and happy at the very least she didn’t waste our time any more. She seems like a good person but an awful contestant. Hope we can focus on the rest of the very interesting cast

To me the quitting is another problem of the shorter game. I miss when the game was longer but they gave them rice. They have to simulate struggle by giving them nothing and makes people quit early on, vs the psychological struggle of a longer game which leads to more interesting “break downs”.

I at least had hope for Mattsing and Ulong before losing begun. I have no reason to have any reason to have any reason to have any....... to think yellow tribe is not the worst looking tribe ever. The brains had a bad first round but you didn't have doubt in MULTIPLE MEMBERS by the end of it. Brandon, i am sorry but you were a disaster, but a great tv at the least.

Lulu could be the worst tribe ever, and Hannah's quit is so pathetic. Embarrassing, what are you expecting when you go out there. Survivor isn't for everyone. Season couldn't start worse, but i still think this will be great season. Let's wait and see

Unpopular opinion, but they’ve taken the ‘casting people who look like the viewers’ too far. I know in early seasons the whole ‘athletic jock/attractive fit females’ became a bit redundant, but people quitting, passing out in the first challenge, crying at camp on day 1’ is starting to be redundant as well. It’s not like the athletic people were consistently winning the show. We’ve went from tribes with 90% athletic people and 10% strategists/characters to 90% strategists/characters and 10% athleticism. Its just not as enjoyable for me personally watching these casts lately. Maybe I’m in the minority but I don’t relate to lawyers, and scientists any more than the average viewer related to fitness freaks and athletes. They need to find some middle ground because survivor has went from ‘war of athletes and models’ to ‘revenge of the nerds’, and if I’m not going to be able to relate to either demographic at least watching people who don’t faint from rowing a boat was more entertaining

You're on point this cast is genuinely unlikeable outside of like Jake, Kaleb, Sabiyah, Austin and Bruce the rest of them are Ls for so many reasons, at least those 5 came off as genuinely likable people by the end of the premiere, the rest of them came off as weak babies or out of touch lunatics if they even got screen time at all

@@TheDXJC56 I’m sure survivor has done studies into the demographics of who’s watching the show in 2023. Maybe I’m in the minority when it comes to people who consume this show. Im a die hard, and again I’m not saying I need to see a cast of supermodels or former professional athletes, but when I look at a cast, my first question is ‘would I have a drink or go out socially with this person’ and for 4 seasons straight there’s maybe 5 players total that seem like the type of person I would enjoy hanging out with. I will admit players like Carson, Owen and others did grow on me, and I’m sure some will this season as well. Survivor Australia still prioritizes people who are generally in decent shape and make competitions exciting and there’s no lack of gameplay in any of their seasons.

Am I the only person questioning why EVERYONE on this season knew who Bruce was the moment they all stepped onto their mats. The one chick on his tribe said she was happy with how strong everyone on her tribe was and she looked over and she immediately sees Bruce from last season?????? Jeff even comes right out and says there's one familiar face that everyone knows. Its Bruce. Season 45 filmed before season 44 even aired. So how and why would anyone on season 45 know who he was and what happened to him. He should have just came on season 45 as a new player same as everyone else. There was no reason anyone needed to know what happened to him. No one, not even Rob or anyone in the chat even metioned it throughout the whole recap.

OMG is it just me or are most of these contestants an embodiment of how Millennials are 😖. Complacent, comfortable, lack of discipline and preparation, outspoken without regards to consequences . Probably their idea of preparation is searching in Google and TikTok how things will be in the island while enjoying her Venti Latte. Sigh I’m afraid for future seasons. We need more older peeps in the tribes.

Its just so entertaining: Pyramids and aliens to manifesting to star signs etc. Outspoken negative Emily, crying Brendan then there’s the Tony spy-shack wannabe doing taichi on the boat. This is gonna be a weirdo-filled fun season. Kudos to the casting producer for giving us TV gold.

What a horrible tribe. Emily is horrible but entertaining Brandon might be the worst player I’ve ever seen and Hannah was an abject failure who at least tried during the competition. The two black members of that tribe are completely unlikeable as well. Didn’t see much of the other two tribes to give much of an opinion on them but this was a horrific episode.

Sad cast! Can we find some real people instead of these artificial folks tatting their insecurities all over their bodies. No wonder Hannah quit; she’s clearly fake. Brandon has no business on that island. Think Survivor is over!
