I've been making an informal study of sharks since I first read of Rodney's ordeal in the book "Shark attack" bought for me by my mom on a trip to Florida in 76. Dozens of books and documentaries later , I can state that Mr Fox's ordeal is without a doubt the most horrendous story of surviving an attack. Epic

Around the time of Rodney’s attack, there had been several incidents of local spear fishermen being hit by passing trains whilst diving, hence his initial assumption that he had been struck by the 7:02 service from Brisbane (these were known locally by a term of endearment: ’Soggy Choo Choos’.) Since then, a level crossing system has been installed on the sea bed, ensuring a safe environment for all.

I live near Glenelg and even though i have never had the pleasure of meeting this guy, his museum was really fascinating and its good that his research is shedding some light on this interesting creature. Plus he is oooooone brave dude!!!

lol i love how they say "he was eaten by one" when "eaten" is normally described as fully consumed lol, its amazing that he survived though, this would be a very interesting person to meet.

To comment about the "just stay in shallow water" most shark attacks occur in 4 foot of water.

Human adrenaline is a crazy thing. The way someone’s mind goes into quick overdrive thinking and the way our bodies could not feel pain because of all the rush. He was bitten so bad from what I’ve seen in pics and he was able to operate through all that untill he got to safety. It probably happened so quick but I’m sure to him that was all happening in slow motion.

@Nemesisangel19 Back in 1962 not much was known about Sharks. Most of what we know today has been done by scientists and conservationists over the decades, you know spear fishing is dangerous because of people like Rodney Fox, he has been one of the great ambassadors for raising awareness of the Great White Shark and that it's in danger of becoming extinct, no-one would have more knowledge or the influence about shark attacks than someone who was bitten in half.

I visited Rodney's museum in South Australia 15 years ago, hoping to meet him (my dad had met him 6 years earlier). Unfortunately he wasn't in that day. Rodney 's photography inspired me to want to cage dive with them and I will finally get to do that later this year, in Mexico.

@@seangalvin672 No, they didn't. The experience is nothing short of AMAZING. The water at Guadalupe Island is crystal clear with about 100-150 feet visibility and we were able to watch so many sharks. They mind their own business and just cruise around us, occasionally taking the bait (tuna slabs) from the back of the boat. There is no blood/chum used as the sharks are already there, so the sharks are a lot more relaxed and not aggressive.

@@Breeanna73 I wanted to do a shark dive with Rodney's company when I was in Australia back in 2003 but had neither the time or money to do it then. I would've loved to have met Rodney and done a shark dive in Australia.

izabelMD shallow water doesnt u cant get attack by sharks theres a shark can thrive in both fresh water and saltwater.. that is a bull shark they can come with in 2 feet of water.

These are reef sharks and they are not frightening to humans so much even as your average lawyer. They are not Great Whites. Christine is not dumb.... just a woman with a skill that is of great interest.

mrk1988 are you an expert on sharks? how do u know what a shark will and won't do. why don't u go for a little swim in the ocean out in austrailia and see just what a shark does
