Suspect Allegedly Strikes Ohio Police Officer In the Face with Metal Pipe While Being Tased

Жыл бұрынThe Cincinnati Police Department in Ohio released bodycam footage showing a suspect allegedly striking an officer in the face with a metal pipe. Officers received a 911 call about an alleged robbery that the man was a prime suspect for. Injured officer, Johnny Harris, arrived on the scene while an officer was already engaging the suspect. The suspect allegedly struck the officer when another officer used a taser on him. The man was arrested and charged with numerous felonies including assault and robbery. Officer Harris suffered several facial bone fractures and will need reconstructive surgery, police say.

Depends... iam no cop. But all I see is rational fear of the group. Professionaly handling the situation very calmly And following the suspect as a deterrent move. After +5 taser hits ? (I don't know if there are different power levels) the guy just shoved all that off. Tackling him, would result in injury of both. The man clearly has enough physic to handle 3 guys down. You don't want to escalate the conflict. That is my humble opinion. In no way iam defending that excuse of oxygen use walking... he deserves all thats coming for him.

The "woke" side of the camp is going to say... "Oh, but you never know... maybe he didn't get cookies with his warm milk before his mommy put him to bed last night. Maybe he woke up on the wrong side of the bed... and we all need to keep that in mind. Suspect likely high on PCP, aggressive and armed with a pole. No one is around so no innocent people are endangered by this man - lethal force is not needed or justified. Wait until more officers arrive to ensure a successful hands on takedown whilst staying close and monitoring the situation to make sure members of the public aren’t strolling into danger. If the situation changes and bystanders are threatened then lethal force will be used. If not; well smashing a few windows doesn’t warrant a death sentence.

All officers are different, those first two officers probably figured that they didn't have the physical ability to take him down, short of shooting him, so waited for more able-bodied officers to arrive, is my theory. On the flip side, some officers were accomplished athletes in high school and still keep in shape, and woulda felt confident in trying to physically tackle the suspect. All depends on the officer.

I watched the video... what other 50 cops? Officer Harris was one of 2 officers I saw on the video first responding. 2v1 isn't taking down a guy who shrugs off tazers. Wrong. Have you performed an examination of the pipe to confirm that it's made of metal? Because most collapsible batons are made from poly carbonate, which are thermoplastics, not metal. Others are made from epoxy, also not a metal. It's possible it was metal, as some are made from aluminum, but it's less likely it's metal than an alternative material.

Exactly. Louisville Metro (Kentucky) got into some serious lawsuits after a man who had used PCP ended up being shot, because he attacked the officers with a box cutter knife, even after being handcuffed. The man had superhuman strength to be able to contort himself to attack the officers with the knife, and they were able to prove it, so the family lost the suit. This was 15-20 years ago.

He didn't get hit, certainly not in the face. It's assault to be sure, but he didn't get struck. If something did hit him, it wasn't a metal pipe. A hit like that from a metal pipe would have put the cop on the ground, stumbling around for a least a little bit. Unless he's the literal Terminator, he wouldn't just keep walking like nothing happened. So "strikes officer in the face with metal pipe" is an allegation that is at least partially untrue.

@Evolve Project Sometimes (as in ALWAYS), it’s better to neutralize the crazy SOB who’s committing assault & battery on others (especially law enforcement), destroying property and removing the risk of potentially hurting more of the public. Allowing him to strut down the street, likely because they’re afraid of the repercussions from tackling this CRIMINAL, is what happens when people discard the victims and apologize for criminals.
