In this video we're lowering the V70R to get rid of the clunky old suspension, putting an catback exhaust on from IPD and finally fixing some of the interior eyesores.

S60R is 3” shorter than the V70R, also remove that bracket behind the resonator or flip it around and put it over the exhaust and below the driveshaft. It’s called the bracket of death cause when it gets caught on the road it’ll shove the exhaust into the driveshaft and cause irreparable damage.

A bit of info on v70 and s60. V70 is S60 in wagon form because its built on the same frame and chassis (s60 was conceived before v70 on the p2 platform), just about any part from these cars are interchangeable. S80 while also being a p2 (assuming same year) platform is not the same as s60 and v70 and a lot if its parts are not compatible. The crossover year began in 2004 for v70 and s60 and ended somewhere in 2005. As someone already mentioned you need to calibrate your newly installed shocks, because the car has a sensor which actively monitors the cars chassis position relatively to its shock travel (correct me if i'm wrong on this one). I'd recommend changing the bushings in the engine sub frame, will vastly improve the way the front of the car handles. I wish i could put the codes that you need, but youtube marks them as spam. If you entertain the idea of changing them : the 2 front bushings are different from the 2 rear bushings, (front are with a blue ring around them and the rear ones are with a white ring). At some point one of the rear bushings had an oval hole (while the rest are round), that is no longer the case and all of them have round holes. If you feel some sort of vibrations when the engine is idle on the steering wheel, your 2 hydraulic motor mounts might be shot, they are vacuum operated (can be easily checked, if they dont hold vacuum they are shot, do check the vacuum lines as they might have holes in them). Also check if the "boot" (below the vibration dampener, the one that serpentine belt is on) on the right side of the engine is not torn.
@Torchedini

Thanks for confirming that on my v70 too the motormounts are shot :( Ah well, suspected it already.

@@ST3ADYxKICKS Yeah my bad, the correct term would be hydraulic motor mounts. The word pillow was the first thing that came to mind, simply because they work somewhat the same and i've edited my post to correct the mistake.
@MrKypc

@@Torchedini Before your start firing up the parts canon: check all vacuum hoses going from motor mounts as they tend to crack with age. If they are cracked, dont buy original parts as the cost is beyond ridiculous. Just get a hose that is rated for fuel/oil (i think it was 4mm inner diameter). Also check the solenoid that lives on the air filter box (diesel version) and as for gasoline version i cant really help as my knowledge is very limited on those engines (i'm talking about how gasoline engines supply vacuum to the hydraulic motor mounts).

Absolutely loving this V70R series. Your crashed S60R has the leather airbag cover still. It's an easy fix to remove it from the old airbag and reinstall on your post-recall V70R airbag. Remove battery terminals for at least 5 minutes though to prevent explosions!

Yes, that houses a module for things like the remote key. I had the unfortunate experience of finding a nice new mirror in a junkyard, replacing the entire housing and then not having my remote lock/unlock work. Everything else worked fine. Luckily I found a way to fix the old mounting mechanism in the old mirror so that I could keep using it without it wobbling around which was my issue originally with the mirror.

About the rearview mirror, you can't just simply replace it. It contains the Upper Electronics Module (UEM) and that controls the rooflights but also contains the radio receiver for the central locking/alarm. It's possible to just replace the glass from another working unit, but it's a bit of an operation.

Good content and great vid. Before you throw out the old 4Cs, cut off the pigtails and save them to re-sell. Some ppl need them if they are doing away with the 4C suspension to "trick" the computer to think they are installed. Also, when working on suspension, I almost always replace parts in pairs / on both sides. E.g., in your video we only see you replacing one upper strut mount and one upper strut bearing. I would have replaced both of these parts on both front struts.

Nice job! One of my favourite cars, for sure. I can't tell you how I feel whenever I watch a video from someone in the South working on a 20-year old car that has no rust, everything seems to be coming off super easily and they have the guts of complaining of some "rusty" bolts lol!!! It must be a mix of anger and envy haha! You should see my 2004 Saab 9-5 that spent its life between Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal, Canada. Nothing comes off easily, the rust if omnipresent and it's always a crazy chore to take off anything. The salt gets everywhere, corrodes anything metal, even aluminum. I need to refresh the suspension and I know it'll be 10x harder than what I just watched. Many of the bolts aren't even hexagonal anymore! But so is the reality up here. Keep up the great content, I'm so glad this V70R was saved, it's just beautiful!

Same PCV hose fell off on my 2006 car. After testing the system with the glove test, I just replaced that single hose, not the whole system. Hadn’t appreciated the changes to the seats over the years, but had noticed that your car seems to have some elements of the pre and post facelift cars in Europe. You’ve got a facelift interior and exterior, but the fuse box and charge carrier are pre-facelift. Might be different specs in the US 🤷🏼‍♂️ Great job on the fixes.

Watching you from Canada. This would be a great build. I don’t own a v70 my landlord does and sometimes I work on his car one. Pretty sold build car for Canadian winter. Love watching the video’s. Keep it coming. Cheers.

It's great that Volvo made the carpets separate pieces unlike other cars where you have to remove the entire thing lol

Idk how many thousand miles mine ran with a completely nuked Pcv system but it never gave me any issues, I was just doing a stage 0 checkup on the car and decided I’d spoil the car with a whole new Pcv system and found out the tubing was all destroyed after I started the tear down 😅
