The Store Cupboard (Crystal Palace) is actually open Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday - the same as Roots and Cycles (which is next door to it). Glad you mentioned them as they deserve more love! Great list, hopefully more people will be inspired to give low waste a try.

here is Zéro outside Wimbledon station, London SW19, its a quite new one, refill/plastic free shop, and they offer weekend bakeries, vegetables. Have to say that you are one of the first channels I’ve discovered last year at the beginning of the minimising waste lifestyle and I’ve reduced a huge amount of waste, and choose loose produces and more eco friendly packaging items. So thank you

Hi. Just found your channel today. I've been wanting to shop at a zero waste store for a while but I have a chronic illness which makes me very tired and I also work full time. So I was super happy to see that there are two shops in Herne Hill which is very near me! I obviously can't go and check them out right now what with the current situation, but I am going to check them out on-line and hopefully will be able to order some things that I am running low on. I am also on the extremely vulnerable list so won't be able to leave the house for about another 10 weeks or so, but I have people who can pick things up for me. Keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing more of your video's in the future.

Thanks for the video Immy! I would recommend the Naked Larder, I have been going there regularly for over a year. I find prices to be lower than other zero waste shops, and it’s nice to meet like-minded people at the monthly collection windows 🌿🤗 Bulk Market is phenomenal for things you didn’t realise you could get in bulk. Also - Harmless. Yes, pretty good! It’s in Crouch End (the owner recently relocated there from Wood Green).

Absolutely fantastic as a resource so thank Immy for doing the hard work on this. West London is a zero waste shop desert. The only ones I can find are in Chiswick which is a long tube ride away and not practical to carry jars etc across such a huge distance. It makes me really sad that nobody seems to offer stores and bulk accessible in West London .Constant sadness. 😢😢

Ok so I adore your sweater! I'm always looking for sweaters like that when I go thrifting! But on another note good lord! Y'all have bulk shops coming out of your ears! In my area there are I think 3 total in a 50 mile radius. And most of their bulk things are pre weighed and packaged in plastic 😞 I so much want to come to London just to go to all the shops and vegan restaurants! You guys are so lucky! Fingers crossed that it will catch on over here like it did where you are! ✌❤🌎

Ditto... all of the above. It is so frustrating when stores pre-measure all the bulk goods and put it in plastic. I am perfectly capable of putting my food items in a reusable cotton bag... please stores ditch the plastic bags. Fingers crossed that ZW shops catch on in Canada too. Ditto... also your thoughts on Immy’s amazing geometric patterned sweater.

Food packaging is so wasteful and unnecessary... it is the bane of my existence. We are hard-wired to gather food, not packaging!! Selecting unpackaged food (whenever possible) gives me a very pleasurable tactile and visual sensation, and it is so incredibly satisfying to restock my fridge/pantry shelves without filling up my garbage can. So often I hear folks say that they cannot remember to bring reusable bags/containers with them when they go shopping. I always respond positively to this statement with some subtle words of encouragement, but the eco-warrior inside me wants to say “Wtf... did you pop out of the womb knowing how to bring your keys, wallet, and phone with you everywhere you go?” I just don’t get it! But... what I do get is this amazing video and dat styling’ jumper. Thanks for this Immy, it is encouraging to see so many package-free shops popping up, even if none of them are in my neck of the woods.

@@SustainablyVegan I usually tell folks that reusable bags are cool, trendy and the way of the future, or that in their heart of hearts they’ll feel so good knowing that they are caring for the planet, or that plastic bags are so last year/decade, or that their kids/grandkids will thank them... and I always smile.

I love the idea of zero waste shops and would support one if I had any in my local area. However... affordability is a big issue for many people and one you touched on, but I think a bigger discussion has to take place about the perception of these shops by many working class people on limited or fixed incomes as being solely a middle class, hipster fad designed for virtue signalling middle class people to try to offset guilt about their mass consumerist habits that are thrashing the planet. I know that sounds harsh but believe me I know many who would feel like that about them and wouldn't dream of shopping there because A. they feel it's not for them (alienation) and B. they can't afford to anyway. There are people in London that have real food poverty and struggle to afford supermarket prices let alone zero waste shop goods. policy-practice.oxfam.org.uk/our-work/inequality/food-poverty Oxfam and Church Action on Poverty estimate that over 500,000 people in the UK are now reliant on food parcels. According to the World Bank, nearly 2 million people in the UK are undernourished. 36% of the UK population are just one heating bill or a broken washing machine away from hardship. 1 in 6 parents have gone without food themselves to afford to feed their families "People at the upper end of the income scale have no idea of what's going on down at the bottom of the scale. They don't realise how much people are really hurting." Sir Michael Marmot, health inequality expert and author of Fair Society, Healthy Lives. If 36% of the population struggle week to week they're not going to be the ones shopping in zero waste shops. And if that much of the population is not able to reduce their waste because of economic factors then the aim of these shops...or what should be the aim...is never going to be realised and we're pissing in the wind to reach waste reduction targets, quite frankly. I like the social enterprise one, that has the right idea but it's not enough. I think what needs to happen is zero waste supermarkets in every town and city that are also social enterprises and have outreach programmes to the communities they're in, and work out affordable ways for EVERYONE to be able to shop there. Bigger means more purchasing power to get lower prices they can pass onto the consumers. And drop the zero waste label...too bourgie. Just call them bulk stores or bulk supermarkets. We need ethical bulk supermarket chains to have a real impact and reach millions instead of these small shops that only cater to a tiny minority of shoppers. If we're not aiming towards that-getting at least 90% of the population onboard, it's just futile virtue signalling nonsense IMO.
