I’m a writer with two published novels, and I stack shelves six days a week while writing the next one. It‘s the price of being a writer.

Actor John de Lancie, who played Q on TNG, stated an important principle during an interview in a Nerdist podcast years ago that actors and others working in the entertainment industry need to follow. He said that the difference between an actor that works long term in this industry and ones that don't is if they understand the necessity to save their money while making it. It's not a time to just waste your money on things you don't need. When you have a gig, you need to save that money for the rainy day that will be coming. You never know when your next gig is coming, so it's vitally important to live below your means and save your money so that you can make it to the next gig.

I love that Chris Gore shared that Tiktok of the "below the line" Hollywood workers thinking that we'd have any sympathy for them once they started talking. When they say "There isn't any work" what they mean is "I'm too good for the work that is available because I AM A HOLLYWOOD WRITER/EDITOR/PRODUCER and how dare you suggest I sully THESE CREATIVE HANDS with something as pedestrian as ... MANUAL LABOR OR TRADE WORK?!"

Underage children cannot sign away their legal rights since by definition underage are legally incapable of making such decisions.

I am 65 years old. I grew up in Hollywood and was there - trying to "make it" - for 48 years. I was nothing in Hollywood. A nobody. I worked in IT for decades, while writing scripts and books. Most of which got stolen, and I never once got credit. The number of truly useless, clueless, talent-less people in Hollywood was staggering. I knew a handful of truly talented, hard working, decent folks who NEVER got a job - not once. I remember one woman I met at a wedding - she was in a mainstream tv series and was only making US$ 400 a week. She was miserable and angry. Hollywood is a con, a swindle, an open air sewer. Time for us all to move on.

I work Construction. We need to hire about 9000 over the next 4 years. We are already 1000 behind. There are plenty of jobs for people who are actually willing to work.

Unfortunately a lot of kids going through this. Usually more often than not the parents are pushing it too.

Two things can be true at the same time, as long as they dont contradict each other. When some (former) employees complain that they cant get a (better) job, its often their fault because they are simply not that valuable as workers. They either havent tried learning valuable new skills to increase their value while also being willing to accept an unattractive job in the meantime to keep afloat, or they demand too much. Sometimes its both. When some employers complain that "people dont want to work", its often their fault because they simply dont pay enough or have ridiculous demands, like years of experience for an "entry level position". Sometimes it both. Its an undebiable fact that wages havent been keeping up with inflation for a long time, and its only getting worse. You cant demand experienced and dedicated workers if youre not willing to pay them well. People _are_ willing to work. You just have to find those people and incentivize them to work _for you_ .

I am in a labor union and when you aren't working on a job you collect unemployment. In blue states, like the one I live in, unemployment is over $2k/ month. I heard Washington state is $4k/ month (pls correct me if I'm wrong). After a period of time you are then eligible for SNAP benefits which is over $500/ month (my state is over $600/month). There is also low income health insurance benefits. If I were these people I would retrain or do gig work and continue to hone your craft.
