Suzanne, I noticed that you had gotten 2 thumbs down, and this is really a puzzle to me. Everything that you are demonstrating is so perfectly done and your camera angles, wide and close-up views are done at exactly the right time. Your ability to keep the work being shown in the 'center of the screen' is superior. I make sure to mention your name and where to find you to new people in our knitting group. Thank you for publishing such excellent demonstrations. I secretly think those 2 marks are just people with touch screens who inadvertently brushed the screen without even knowing they had done so. THANK YOU FOR BEING SO INCREDIBLE!!!

@@lillyniki5480 i agree. All must be by right handed people. I would guess because of the placement of the menu items. Too bad we can't move the menu around. I have been frustrated by not being able to undo having accidentally touched it.

I have been doing this style of seaming for years, but always just did it by eye as to whether to use one bar or two. Results were always a bit hit or miss. The ratio is a genius way to work it out accurately. Thank you for teaching me a new technique.

Thank you so much . Your clear instructions have helped me to sew a very neat seam with mattress stitch for the first time in my knitting experience. I am 76 and thought I knew most things about knitting. However this is the first time I have tackled a dropped sleeved garment and it was proving a problem for me. I am so happy to have found you on KZfaq. and I shall definately be recommending your calm easy to understand channel to my friends.

I didn’t need the info for this video but having just discovered you yesterday I am watching a slew of them! I found you while looking for videos on how to pick up stitches around the neck of my first sweater after a complete fail on my first attempt which had to be ripped out. I winged it, and after seeing your video I realized my mistake, picking up directly under the bind off. THANK YOU! My ribbing came out beautifully. Hello Suzanne, I love your videos. I have learned so much. I started knitting when I was a young girl (I am 62 years young now) It has always upset me to see my seams, and I just didn't know how to make them look better, after all those years!...Math is not my forte, the diagram you did, will be a huge help. I know that from now on, I am going to enjoy my knitting even more, and maybe even up my skill level, which plateaued many years ago. However, I am grateful for the opportunities that videos like yours, they will help me accomplish so much more. Thank you so very much xx

Thank "ewe" for another excellent video! I secretly like to seam as well. I have made a few Alan Dart figures and it quickly became clear to me that the care with which the seaming is done is the difference between looking great and looking lumpy. So, since I do not want lumpy-looking things, I learned to tackle the task and now it's a challenge I look forward to! Your videos are so helpful in developing the confidence and skills of your fellow knitters. Thank you so much for your time and efforts.

I am so glad I have come across this video. Thank you for making it so clear - I now hopefully won't mess up my good knitting with poor seaming! My garment has more rows than stitches (28 rows, 23 stitches) so the opposite to your demonstration. Would I work out the ratio for them the same way?

Exactly, use your ratio.

Thanks Suzanne, I really enjoy your tutorials, how they are presented so concisely, pictured so clearly and the detailed content. I had no idea about the "dreaded elevens"....there's no doubt I have been guilty of them and now I will notice them! A question for you: when seaming like this previously, I would have just picked up two row loops instead of skipping one....is that wrong? What effect would it have?

It would make no difference. Good question. Happy knitting.

You are the best knitting teacher I have ever met. Do you have any videos or simply tips on joining knit work to continue it but crocheting, for crazy wild fusion designs?? ;-) Thanks!

@@SuzanneBryan Whenever you can work it in. I'll be doing my own experiments, successful or otherwise, in the meantime. (I seem to be finding that the only ribbing that really works--stretches but also springs back--for "cuffs" on legwarmers, brims on hats, is knit-one, purl-one, in wool, but then I sometimes want to continue the body of these items with crochet designs. Thus this interest in joining. Anyway...)

I love your videos. Very clear. But I did have a question about this sample. There was a bit left over on the row piece after the seam was finished. How would you handle that? Thanks in advance.

Thank you very much Suzanne! What kind of selvedge stitch would you make for a garment that has to be seemed? Would you make one more stitch on each edge as selvedge stitches? I have never tried to knit a seemed garment because I’m afraid to make a mistake & not confident enough.

Mostly I use just a Stockinette selvedge. That is knit on the RS and purl on the WS. I am currently in the process of making a video that shows a variety of selvedges and compares them - on a Stockinette fabric. Watch for it, maybe this weekend. Happy knitting.

Thank you so much for your clear video! I have one question, what's best, skipping bars (like you demonstrated) or go under two bars?

Try it on a swatch and see what you think. I don’t really see a difference.
