Even I’m knitting 🧶 from a long-long time, I really appreciate your videos. I’m just learning a lot of things. I always had a hard time to nicely connect two fabrics, the sides of a sweeter for example. Or I never had the courage to put a zipper instead of buttons. It’s true, that I was on my own, nobody was ever teaching me to knit. I just love doing it and be creative. I’m so happy to finally learn some small but important things. Thank you 🙏 I keep watching your videos, so easy to learn from you.

My cardigan panels have been staring at me for days while I tried to wrestle with how to make the joining look as good as the rest of the work. The only options I was finding left a visible and ugly seam, so when this video popped up in my suggested list, I thought to at least give it a looksy. I do believe this is exactly what I have been looking for, and I’m just taking a moment to write a thank you before I go find my tapestry needles and see how it turns out.

I am so glad I watched this video because I want to know what is mattress seam. Thank you for showing us the bit about knitting with slip one stitch. Someone taught me that 20 years ago but I never got it to work that well and over time I forgot about mattress stitch ( to be fair, I don’t even know what’s it’s called until now) So this video is very helpful and insightful for me. I can’t wait till bootcamp 1.6 Thank you so much for your very informative and detailed video. I love it ❤️

This was so helpful. I've never done mattress stitch before. I particularly liked the bit at the end about not slipping the first stitch. My mum taught me to knit when I was about 6 or 7 (nearly 70 years ago) and she taught me to always slip the first stitch and knit the last one. I've always used back stitch on my seams, so it wasn't really a problem. But now I can see how much better the finish is with mattress stitch I'll stop slipping that first stitch...Thank you, your videos are so clear (I always use your Kitchener without ears method on my socks).

Great video! I knit a cardigan started with the neck ribbing, placed the first and last 11 sts on stitch holder and continued with cardigan. Now I am working on the first button band. When measuring it should be stretched slightly to fit the edge of the cardigan. Meaning I will not sow rows 1:1 but the button band will have less rows. I suppose I will go under a few bars of the button band twice but will it zip up nicely?
@SuzanneBryan
@SuzanneBryan 3 жыл бұрын
You would need to know the row gauge of your cardigan main fabric as compared to the row gauge of your button-band. then you would need to match them. It may or may not be a 1:1 ratio. I would used blocked fabric for measuring your row gauges, You may need to knit a couple of swatches.

Hi Suzanne, thank you for your videos, you’re so helpful! I’m going to sew a large kimono knitted flat, the pattern says to sew along the seams before blocking. What do you recommend? Do I block it before sewing the seams or may I only iron the seams before and then block the whole piece? It’s a cotton/cachemire yarn…

Can this applied to joining shoulders that have been shaped? I found I had to pull tight as I would if I were seaming stockinette stitch seams. However this technique will work on my body seams.......thx!

If I use the tail of my yarn, would I start on the same side as the yarn tail or the opposite? Also, is there a way to determine how long it needs to be to make it up the entire seam? For example if my project is 12 inches long do I need 12 + 6” or would I need 12*2 or 1.5? Thank you so much!
@SuzanneBryan
@SuzanneBryan 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, if you are using the tail start on the opposite side. Try making a little swatch to see how much tail you need, I find that I generally need just a few extra inches. If you do run out of seaming thread you can always add an extra thread as needed. 😊

Is there a grafting method for vertical connections? I’ve had to cut horizontally and vertically on an afghan. I will knit up in the middle of the piece grafting those stockinette stitches across to add a different color block. I then need to connect the 2 sides vertically. I was hoping for something as lovely as the seam you show here but with less bulk. ?
@SuzanneBryan
@SuzanneBryan 4 жыл бұрын
You can use ½ stitch, or 1 leg from each side stitch for a less bulky seam. But, if you have uneven edge stitches, it can look a little messy. Try it on a swatch first and see what you think.
