I have had this car since Oct 2019. The best and most reliable little car on the road today in my eyes. It suits me and is enough for me. People have their own ideas about cars and preferences This car I adore. It is a better car than my last one was. I would recommend this car to anyone. Since I have had it I have only filled up 16 times. The value on petrol is amazing it lasts for ages I fill up once a month and it lasts till the next month the last thing you want is having to keep going to the petrol station NO thanks. You get in you are home without any fuss. I don't care what people say about this car to me its a godsend. The boot is not that small as people see it as and that shelf you CAN remove it instead of this woman moaning that it drops while she is putting in stuff. The boot will fill and take £140 pounds of different shopping REALLY. Each to their own I love it x

I bought a 2014 Alto in lockdown last year to reduce running costs. I find it roomy enough, and nippy enough around town whilst holding its own on the motorway. Fill it up once per month and with zero tax and cheap insurance it was a good decision based on the reasons I bought it. The only issue is the size of the boot but for most journeys even that’s sufficient…and it means stuff doesn’t move whilst driving which I hate. All in all I would recommend this as a first car for anyone or for someone looking to downsize to cheap, no frills driving.

Some people are critical over a car that's cheap. Cheap to buy and run is all the first time driver needs and its proven reliable. Complain about the plastics get financed up to your eye balls and get a VW up and cry yourself to sleep with your student debt. Someone with a budget who's used to waiting around in the cold sharing a bus with people who smell of pi$$ and sweat are grateful of a reliable car with AC. Boot to small open a door put what ever it is on the back seat. My partner has just got one and I test drove it and it held the road better than a Peugeot 107 was bigger and just as quick plus her insurance for a first time driver was cheap. road tax is £20. Ignore people who are comparing a sandwich from a supermarket to a 3 course meal it does the job.
@mfcgavin6 жыл бұрын
I agree Chris. My girlfriend bought one of these as her first car. It had a years manufacturer warranty, full dealer history and low mileage, as good as a new car IMO. The same VW Up with the extra conveniences, warranty and history would genuinely have been twice as much, there's just no comparison. As for the car itself, I actually really like it. I drive it fairly regularly on a variety of roads and it's capable. The ride is slightly bouncy but no more so than most other little city cars. It's been completely reliable as you'd expect and I'm sure it will continue to be for a long time to come. The automotive press never consider that most people buying cars aren't walking into a car dealers and buying a car from a brochure... They've also good a deeply engrained snobbery, they favour everything with a VW badge. The two VAG group cars I've owned have been my worst, that doesn't matter though, their interiors were nicely made....

Quite an accurate review. I own the same car, and for one person it is pretty great. Yeah, its nothing fancy and nothing to brag about, however, I have fallen in love with it. My biggest irritation is probably the horrible audio (no bass & no aux cord), but overall it is what you pay for so i have no complaints. My favourite feature is probably how easily the seats can be put down horizontally and how comfortable they are, you can have a quick rest or just chill. I've even slept inside, I must say its surprisingly comfortable.

I dropped a professional stereo unit in mine, we tested it at the shop and agreed it didn’t even need new speakers, the bass is all in the power unit itself. A massive bass shaking upgrade for little cost. Now I’m just worried the boom is going to roll the Alto chassis cause it’s so light!! Give it a go, the original stereo is a bit tame. Good luck.

I would like to add another comment about the boot. You will be AMAZED at how much you can FIT in there. The thing that drops down is not annoying you can actually LIFT it off so it does not dropdown. It will fit a big amount of shopping in the back tried and tested by me my comment below. This car is bigger than anyone thinks and still, I love it x The boot is just perfect enough for me. You can fit up to six bags of shopping in the boot. The plastic is perfect for the car it depends on what you want to put into the compartments at the side that are slim or leave them empty not EVERY car has to have all the gaps filled in x mine is practically empty you don't need all that in it x just yourself when you are in it that's it x I still recommend this car it is PERFECT x

I just repair one today. A 2009 1.0 automatic. It was damaged by police and they claimed it was an emergancy so customer had to folk out. Anyway test drove after and i was very surprised with it. Interior is far better than toyota aygo and nissan micra. The auto gearbox was the most pleasant i ever drove. Its quieter and the engine feels more refined than the toyota 1.0 but not quite as snappy but nippy enough. When buying one check rear springs, shock absorbers, fuel line by the fuel tank as that corrodes so i added grease to it for customer and check rear brake lines or get them greased as they can corrode early. Alot of the underneath parts like axle and suspension and componants are GM chevy so they rust like mad. Other than that engine is solid.

i have this car and i love it, I'm in Australia so i believe the suspension may have been tuned for us but the ride is sporty and its a joy to take into the hills, when you're pushing it hard it starts to sound "porschey", its a fun little car to drive but some things are annoying, the piece of plastic under the car easily gets taken off when going over speed bumps and those concrete things in parking spaces. it only runs on 95 premium petrol and that actuality quite pricey, overall a great car.

Nice review! Surely, this car is not as good as any more expensive car. But driving this car is much more comfortable than using a bus. Buying bus tickets every day is not much cheaper than buying and owning this car. Buying a used car may be as cheap as buying a new Alto. But running costs of used cars are higher because of their fuel consumption, higher taxes and the lack of warranty. In some European countries the cheapest 4-door VW up! costs as much as two Suzuki Altos.

Just out of curiosity why does Suzuki currently have two City Cars; is there any major difference between this and the Splash? As far as I know both are still in production. It's just interesting as usually car companies tend to have one particular car to fill a role I.E Renault and Ford have the Clio and Fiesta that fill out the Supermini role.

As a student, I wouldn't mind these minor inconveniences. Strap your backpack on the back seat, keep the front reserved for a lady, and you are good to go. Most commuters won't lift the boot in months, so the rear parcel thing shouldn't be a worry either.
