how to run in your new suzuki df 6 hp 4 stroke engine
Suzuki DF6A Proper Break-in Procedures
Break in period 10 Hours
1. For the initial 2 hours
allow sufficient idling time (about 5 minutes) for the engine to warm up after cold engine starting.
NOTICE
Running at High Speed without sufficient warm up may cause severe engine damage such as piston seizure.
After warming up, run the engine at idling speed or the lowest in-gear speed for about 15 minutes.
During the remaining 1 hour and 45 minutes, operate the engine in gear at less than 12 throttle.
NOTE
You may throttle up beyond the recommended operating range to plane your boat, then immediately reduce the throttle to the recommended operating range.
2. For the next 1 hour
Operate the engine in gear at 4000 rmin, or at the 34 throttle. avoid running the engine at full throttle.
3. Remaining 7 hours
Operate the engine in gear at desired engine speed. You may occasionally use full throttle, however do not operate the engine continuously at full throttle for more than 5 minutes at any time.
NOTICE
Running continuously at full throttle for more than 5 minutes at a time during the last 7 hours of break-in operation may cause severe engine damage such as seizure.
During the last 7 hours of break-in operation, do not operate at wide open throttle for more than 5 minutes at a time.

I have one, used aa couple of times, took it out for pre use test run; and when I accelerate, it runs very rough when t5hrottle past half. How do I adjust carb to run smoother; Alan

Do you drain the carburator after every use before transporting? I have the same 2022 motor.. just wondering

yes i just ran it in a water but till it stoped ,not the best idea

The best run-in is to chuck it on a boat and use it for an hour. . Change the oil and filter and go for another 3 hours, Change them again and you good to go. I dont see the point of letting it idle away for ages. It needs to be loaded for the rings to seat properly

@@colcol3235 Because the engine sheds a significant amount of metallic particles during the first few hours of use. Enough to give the oil a pearlescent sheen. The idea is to remove this contamination as soon as possible and replace with clean oil which will reduce wear.

It doesnt say to do that in the manual? Is your application for older motors? I say this with a purely learning tone..

@@colcol3235 Not at all for older engines only however the df6 does have a oil filter so it's a cut above the rest in that regard. I just don't see the benefit of letting a brand new engine run through its first few hours of life in oil that is contaminated with metal particles that have been shed due to the normal bedding in process. I'd rather get rid of those particles and do it as quickly as possible to try and give the engine the best chance at a long and fruitful lifespan. My other issue with outboard break in periods requires a bit of critical thinking.....why does a outboard require such a detailed , time consuming dare I say tedious break in but not a generator for instance ? Or a Weedeater ? Or a car ? Or a motorcycle. I'm no engineer but the engines is these applications are much of the same thing. Long story short I think that outboard break ins are counterintuitive.
