Join me while I continue the fabrication of a custom rear bumper for a 1999 Suzuki Grand Vitara. This bumper is made from a combination of rectangle tube and plate for the ultimate in strength and rigidity while keeping things as light and clean as possible.
I thought this would be the final episode in this series but there was just too much to show you so stay tuned for part 4 - that really will be the last one!
In part 3 we do more work with Coroplast, creating plastic mock ups to finish the side portions of the bumper as well as the top plate. Speaking of the top plate, there's a tutorial on cutting checker plate from a mock up and getting the fit just right. I go over bracing the bumper for welding in order to avoid heat warpage and we begin the sanding process.

really good build but soo much added weight. i would of used alloy for the covers and steel for the super structure, or if your rich 6000 grade alloy for the super structure

Thanks for your comment! This bumper actually weighs only 80lbs without the swingarm or 110lbs with it - surprisingly light for steel tube. This being the case, I think it's reasonable to fabricate it entirely from steel... Alloy would be undeniably lighter but it would push the cost of the bumper high enough that I think it would negatively affect my sales.

You have used the 4 main tie ins underneath, did you take advantage of the two on top? They are part of the original bumper...

Thanks for your comment! I used the four on the bottom because they're the stock tow receiver installation points, meaning they're very strong. The original mounts at the top are not as robust so I welded captive nut plates to the rear crossmember instead and used those as the upper mounts. The bolts pass through the bumper...

I have an '02 Tracker (US) and would like to have a bumper just like this one. Can you build another one without having my vehicle in your shop? Approximately how much would that cost if I had it powdercoated after I received it? Thanks! Great channel!

Unfortunately, shipping to the US has proved to be price prohibitive - I've put together the logistics several times and the shipping is always as much as the bumper (at least).
