In this video, we change the oil & filter on a Suzuki GS500 K2 motorcycle. This video is useful to anyone changing the oil & filter on this and similar motorcycles and, in fact, any motorcycle as the principle will be the same.

Brilliant! Ive had an old gs 500 for about 4 months now, and thinking of changing oil n filter. Mine is mint with 15k original miles. A lot lighter and easier to handle than my zzr11. ( getting older dontcha know)

Thanks for the feedback. This one is low mileage but has stood outside for a while and has a little surface rust on the frame that could do with sorting. Starts on the button. Hopefully, this morning, we'll do a quick rideout to see how she runs, so watch out for the update.

I need a torque wrench lol and wish i watched this video before changing the oil filter. The cover is currently sealed but top right has obviously snapped and is free spinning. Just wondering if I should try my luck with it as is or dump fresh oil and change the bolt

You think the bolt has snapped or the engine casing thread has stripped? I guess the right answer is to replace the bolt if you can...if it's not leaking, maybe a job for another day...

Thanks! by the way does the oil need to be at the top of the markings or in the middle at the end when it cycled the motor.

The oil should ideally be at the top of the dip stick markings when cold and up right

Difficult to say without seeing. Is the leak being caused by a failed seal? or, possibly, even a warped engine cover. For the bolt. I guess it's a case of extracting it and replacing. I'd definitely be looking to replace any seals if you have a leak.
