The entry level sports bike game has been previously dominated by the Ninja 300, the R3, and the CBR300. Finally, Suzuki has come to the party to offer beginner riders an entry level sports bike to compete with the rest of the Japanese brands.
So, is this a good first motorbike? I was hoping it would would be a great bike - the better these entry level machines are, the more likely people are to stick with riding!
Thanks to Sydney City Motorcycles Lane Cove for supplying the bike!

For the same complaints people have about this, and I notice there are a lot of these on sale for very low prices, after I get more riding experience I will ABSOLUTELY buy one of these to wring out as a daily sport bike. Cheap to run, nobody wants them. I don’t need a high power bike to have fun or stroke my ego. Perfect.

If ever you wonder why 250cc not 300cc? It's because in Japan you dont need a yearly inspection for bikes below 250cc, which cost around 40,000jpy or 400usd +++ whatever maintenance they need to do.

Exactly. 250ccs are very popular here in Japan also because we have to pay very little in taxes and insurance. That's why you can see a lot of Ninja250 and YZF-R25 but rarely any Ninja 300 and YZF-R3. Also with all the traffic and most roads limited to 40 or 50 km/h you don't really need the power or speed. Even on highways we are not allowed to do more than 100km/h. Btw I just got my GSX250R last week and I'm loving it! It gives me exactly what I need for my daily commute. Thanks for the great review!

Great review. Nice looking bike but I think the price needs to come down to move people away from the Ninja300, R3, and RC390. Considering you can get a Ninja or a R3 for a few hundred dollars less I cannot see this bike doing well until it gets discounted to under $6k on the road in Australia.

This is GSX250R, sir, take note that the R at the end, represent for touring bike, so don't compare to R3, or Ninja. Just wait for Suzuki's development of the very closed coming brand new engine, the GSXR 250. It's going to be totally new, than after that compare it with the R3 or Ninja. As you can see this existing GSX250R, is the same engine as the GW250 Inazuma which is one of the best of touring bike but the engine is not for racing purpose. I am from Indonesia, here the potential customer who are excited for the top speed freaks, refusing this GSX250R to enter our country, and luckily Suzuki heard their wants. And now they are in the run of developing the brand new engine of GSXR 250. Just keep your eyes on this project.

I wish they made this a 8 valve dohc it's only a 4 valve sohc so it could pump out more hp with a new head... Even Honda's 300r is a dohc 4 valve with it's single cylinder.

Good looking bike especially in the moto gp blue. Seems a bit underpowered at 25hp though seen as the r3 puts out over 40hp and the 300 ninja is about 38hp. It's also heavier than the Yamaha and Kawasaki too. Also I noticed your speedometer on the bike was in mph and not kph!

Richie G and yeah I think Suzuki has deliberately made it a bit different to its rivals - less power as you said but it's cheaper and better on fuel. for people who are looking to save that extra few hundred bucks it all helps.

I think as long as the torque figures are respectable, the horsepower number doesn't really matter. It's a city bike, a LAMS bike, and is marketed as such. HP figures are no logical selling point for a commuter vehicle :P

Haha yeah it took me a second to clock the speedo too - it was the hill test that left me thinking "mate, that bike is shit" ... then I clocked it lol. But yeah it's not a supersport like a ninja / r3/ cbr300/ etc. it revs lower and makes its torque lower down the range. Point of comparison, this bike makes peak torque of 23nm @ 6.5 krpm, whilst a ninja 300 makes 27nm @ 10k.

Taking my MSF course next month and I've been looking at the CBR500 as my first bike. Either that or getting a cheap 125cc that I won't care too much about dropping
@rayevo7468
@rayevo7468 7 жыл бұрын
nice. i would say get the 500 all damn day. i learned on a 125 and went on a longer ride with the instructor through some hills. It was a CB125 and it sssssttrruggled to get up the hills. I weight 82kg, had to keep it in 1st or 2nd because 1st was topping out. Compare that to the 500r, which is not that expensive (and realllly reliable cheap to maintain once you've spent the extra to buy it), and you have a really great bike that feels nie and solid even at higher speed which inspires confidence and helps you relax and get into riding. You're also learning on a heavier bike which is good practice for when you transition to a higher capacity. Happy riding brah.

KingN8Boogie get a125 as your first bike, learn to ride it, learn cornering techniques, learn how to brake properly without the help of abs, fall (we all fall) once you master the little bike upgrade straight to a 1000cc
@rayevo7468
@rayevo7468 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's based on your location. Where I'm from we have no choice but to start riding with a qualified instructor. Usually the motorcycle instructor will start most learners on a 125. You then can sit the test and if you pass you then have to ride a learner approved bike for 12 months minimum before sitting a second test, using an unrestricted, non-learner bike. In those 12 months I believe the 125 wouldn't give you enough. If you're in the states though, I have no idea what laws are over there, but it seems like you can just buy anything, even as a learner. I would learn on a 125 then for sure and then upgrade to decent 600cc, reserving the litre bike for when I've mastered the 600. A 1000cc bike is just so different from a tiny 125 that I'd really hesitate recommending someone who's only ridden a 125 get straight on a 1000 and go. But everyone has their own choice to make.

I can't imagine Suzuki selling many of these in the US. They are heavier than the R3, Honda 300, and Ninja 300, the seat ht. is higher, and there is less power. Up it to 300cc, lose 20 lbs, drop the seat an inch and get back to me. In the states, 250 sport bikes are obsolete.

yeah this bike will do all the things you're mentioning but If I were you, i'd save yourself a bit of cash and buy a one or two year old Ninja/R3.
