I had that one! The baffles kept vibrating loose. The 1972 Newport blue one...awesome feel to it even just idling.

I owned the 72 GT 750 J I was a JR in high school. i found a set expansion chamber exhaust at a motor cycle scap yard Sport wheel its still around it was a blast. that was 1978 i would leave school with the front tire off the ground. I will never forget the shop teacher called me into his office about my driving. I thought I was in trouble. He said you know you should let that motor warm up more before you get on it like that you can cold seez a 2 stroke engine. have a good day.

Super design and engineering - just what you would expect from Japanese industry - i.e. thinking "out of the box", the lines of the bike are just gorgeous, same thing for her sister the GT-550 Suzuki Ram-Air. Thanks for the video, Ciao, L

One of Japan's greatest motorcycles. Great looking and very charismatic. Just one thing, how come it was classed as a 750 with only a displacement of 738ccs, surely this made it more a 740 than a 750.

The 1972 GT750 had a flaw. The engine would occasionally ignite the fuel air mixture in the crankcase (backfire, detonate or whatever) Anyway the flaw was a weak crankshaft seal between cylinder 2 and 3. It would bend over from the explosion and then the engine would suck oil from the transmission. Later models had a modified seal with a metal stiffener.

In 73, my second road bike was a Suzuki 72 orange white Titan bought for $1000, probably should have bought the red GT380 instead and would have bought a blue GT750 for about $1750 if I had the money. Have a red 80 CBX right now.

I had a ´76a and it was amazing , except they would have made the frame from lead but they found something softer and heavier . That said the handling was predictable except for a shimmy at about 90 mph , you could get wheel spin in the first three gears and play tunes with the front brake , never did I feel unsafe - until it rained , then the front brake was a scary joke that didn´t work until it did and that was worse ´cause it grabbed . The best bike I ever owned , I still miss it .

Owned a '74 L model, nice bike, but the twin front discs were a bit all or nothing and could be a bit scary when it rained.

Ya, I know what you mean, i have a 1972 J GT750 with those front dual shoes......and when I have it up to 105 MPH........watch out........ thank God for the Amsoil Dominator injector oil...... no smoke......................I am 60 years old, I know I shouldnt drive that fast.....but it is hard holding that bike down..... especially after just having the engine rebuilt with 3 over pistons.... Kingman Arizona...

+Jay Man You are a crazy man running one of those at that speed without a steering damper at least. A few tricks to stave off the death wobbles are, fit a swing arm off a 550, they are longer and you slot out for the thicker 750 axle. ( need to run a longer chain too). Space up the front springs to lift the nose. Always always run a front tyre that has no cross cuts, just grooves. Believe it or not , tread pattern effects these old girls. Lastly fit a damn good hydraulic damper and write a will.

partymanau So what is the fastest you would go without all the upgrades you mentioned? I run Metzler Lasertech tires with new tubes, and strips, also replaced the rear swing arm spacers, my '''''''''''72 has the steel swing arm bushings. Run 36 lbs in the front, and 42 in the rear tires . I always wear full armor when riding....have a armored mesh jacket, full front and rear armor, under an armored icon motorhead leather jacket, and a full face VEGA Attitude helmet with both DOT and ECE R 22.05 1500g+- 50 ratings . Also wear scorpion racing /track gloves, and leather pants with leather engineers boots 15 1/2 ' from bottom of heel to top of the boot. Are you telling me they make steering dampers for a '72 GT750? Who sells them?

+Jay Man I sourced a "universal" unit, too long ago to rem brand .Just take a butchers at ebay. U will find a prob fitting the front fork leg as they usually clamp to the piston and the J model gaiters will have to go. U might be able to fabricate a mount to come off the triple clamp bolts or something to keep the old girl looking stock.

Wow... Very nice..... I think NOW in reflection that WAS my 'near perfect' (past) Motorcycle?! I think the First one I ever rode was a 72/73 ~ The one I wound up with was a 76' GT750A...... the FIRST Big Bike I ever had??!! ;-) I'd give my soul now to have a say a 77' (last year) that had the Pointless (Electric) Breakerless Ignition??!! Nuff' said. ;-)

I have had my 1972 JGT750 J now for 8 years , enough time to work out all the bugs... that bike is a real blast to drive..... Just had the engine rebuilt, wish i had done that 8 years ago.............. what a difference that makes.... night and day.......... I live in Northwestern Az and have never seen another one on the street in the 8 years I have owned it.... Any GT750 riders in Northwestern Arizona???

+Jay Man Sweet, last I checked my J had 3 thou on the pistons and they recommend a rebuild at 1.5, prolly should do what u did but it still goes great. Did u have any problem sourcing parts for a japper that age?
