G'day Guys and Gals
In this video I am installing an Ironman 2" (50mm) Lift kit to my 2023 Suzuki Jimny Jb74. I show you all of the steps necessary to install the lift kit and associated parts. Supplied in the 2" Ironman 4x4 lift kit is -
- 2" Lifted coils Front + Rear
- Extended shock absorbers Nitro Gas Front + Rear
- Extended headlight sensor adjustment bracket for the rear axle
- Extended brake line for the rear axle
- 2 degree castor correction bushes
- central crossmember drop bracket kit
All of these parts need to be installed together to lift the suspension in the vehicle and correct the steering and suspension geometry. It is important to install castor correction to bring the front diff back around to a good castor degree. This will give the vehicle good handling on road and off-road.
I first begin fitting the crossmember drop bracket kit to allow for extra clearance from the front drive shaft when the axle is articulating. This will also enable us to drop the front axle all the way down to install the lifted coil springs. Secondly I install the extended headlight sensor adjustment bracket followed by the extended brake line down on the rear axle. The Suzuki Jimny JB74 has LED headlights and the extended headlight sensor arm corrects the reading of the sensor to work with the height gained from the 2" Lift. After bleeding the LHR wheel cylinder the brakes felt nice and firm. As the brake line that I extended went only to the LHR side I only ended up having to bleed that one line to get a good firm pedal. Thirdly it was time to install the Front and Rear 2" raised coil springs to the Suzuki Jimny JB74. After the lifted coils were installed I could carry on and install the castor correction bushes to the front control arms. Using my 12T hydraulic press and my press tool kit I was able to press the standard bushes out of the control arms. Then I could locate and mark my offset castor correction bushes and press them back into the arms. After refitting the control arms to the vehicle I could carry on and install the extended nitro gas shock absorbers to the vehicle. After all of this work I tightened all of my bushes on the ground at ride height.
The Suzuki Jimny is quite and easy vehicle to install a suspension lift kit to due to it being a live beam axle 4wd. I used a few tools to carry out the Suspension lift kit install -
- Jack stands
- Floor Jack
- 12t Hydraulic press
- Press tools
- Socket and ratchet wrench set
- Spanner and ratchet spanner kit
- Screw drivers
- One man brake bleeding kit
- wheel chock
After installing the 2" suspension lift kit to my 2023 Suzuki Jimny JB74 I took the vehicle to my local tyre store to get a wheel alignment. During the alignment they checked the Suzuki Jimny's steering and suspension geometry and straightened the steering wheel.
The lift it that I have fitted to my 2023 Suzuki Jimny JB74 is an Ironman 4x4 2" suspension lift and it has a weight rating of 0-50kg of accessories on the front axle and 0-200kg on the rear axle. The coils I chose were the lightest rating due to the vehicle being very small and light weight I didn't want to ruin the ride with really firm suspension. The Suzuki Jimny drives great with the new suspension as it has firmed the ride up just enough to improve how the vehicle handles but it hasn't made it uncomfortable.
In this DIY tutorial I show you all of the steps necessary and guide you through the install one step at a time. If you are thinking of installing your own suspension lift kit to your Suzuki Jimny then you can easily follow my Guide and install it yourself and save a heap of cash! This video can be used as a guide or tutorial to help you install your own 2" suspension lift kit to your 4wd.

@@LowRangeNick Nice to work on a vehicle that is clean on the underside and not covered in rust and mud. The work looks straightforward. Didn't the front flexi brake hoses need replacing? Also l am looking to fit lower low range transfer gears but can't find any that also don't lower high range, are there any out there that alter low range only as l am sticking with standard tire size.

@clooperman3745 The front brake lines are fine with just a 2" Lift. Any bigger and you will need to extend all of the lines I believe. As for transfer gears. I have only seen ones that reduce low and high for fitting bigger tyres. 👍

Hi Nick, such a helpful video, super stuff 👌 I purchased an OME 40mm kit (not fitted yet) and that comes with a rear panhard relocation bracket. I'm very curious as to why this is needed, most other 40 and 50mm lift kits do not come with this. Any idea why OME use one?
@LowRangeNick
@LowRangeNick 4 ай бұрын
It is optional with the 40mm - 50mm lift kit and it just corrects the pan hard rod location when lifting.

new to your channel but yeah you seem to do a lot of good stuff. Are you a mechanic or just a all-round learn as you go car enthusiast? So when you do a lift kit there is no need for steering arms , radius arms, tail shaft or sway bar adjustments. Or is that mainly for the bigger 4x4s with the 4-in lift etc? And if you don't have all the tools it's just a job for iron Man. Nice video

Very interesting and well filmed video thank you. I would say, I'm not convinced about some aspects of the IronMan kit. No extended front brake lines, but a flex limiting extended bump stops? The quality or lack of with the headlight adjuster and cross member brackets are a disappointment. Looking at how far the axle can drop with the shocks off, it looks like there is a lot of suspension travel left on the table too. Although I guess the upper shock mount is the real limiter here. Would be very interesting to see how much gain (or loss??) or suspension travel the kit generates. A lift in itself is one thing and better damping, but off road you also want increased travel. And I'd guess that total travel on the front is maybe net zero based on the extended bump stop. Think I'd also want to address the panhard rod angles too.
@tonwhelan

What lift kit would you recommend (40-50mm) instead? OME, Black Raptor etc?
@300bhpton
@300bhpton 4 ай бұрын
I really like the look of the OME kit, but it is only 40mm, so the shocks are not much longer than stock. For a primarily road going Jimny with mild lift looks, it would be my choice I think. slightly enhanced off road, but some nice design decisions and much better damping than a standard vehicle. But for off roading, the short shocks will limit potential. I've actually just bought the 2" Black Raptor Pro kit, so should be able to answer better in the near future. For more serious off roading I'd say the 3" Black Raptor kit, you don't get any more travel as the shock upper mount limits what you can do, but you'd gain a bit more clearance. My vehicle is more mixed use, hence going for the 2" kit though.@@tonwhelan

Great stuff thanks for your detailed reply. I just had the OME lift kit delivered and had already fitted extended brake hoses front and rear (not essential for a 40mm lift but did it anyway, simple enough procedure). Look forward to seeing how it drives once i install the kit, its mostly road with some mild off road so should suit my driving.
