Happy New Year and welcome back to the PASSIONBUILT KZfaq channel. We are kicking of the first video of the year with a parts guide to the GSX-R front end suspension swap for the Suzuki SV650. In today's video, I show you each part needed for swapping your SV650 forks to GSXR forks. To do this conversion you will need to source a pair of 2004-2005 Suzuki GSX-R 600 / 750 forks, GSX-R complete triple tree assembly, GSX-R clip-ons, GSX-R Front wheel & axle, GSX-R calipers, GSX-R steering damper, GSX-R front fender, and a hall effect sensor. The installation is pretty straight forward. You will need to fabricate 2 brackets. One for the hall effect sensor and another for the GSX-R steering damper. If you have any questions on this conversion, please feel free to ask in the comments section below! If you found this video helpful, please give it a THUMBS UP and SUBSCRIBE to the channel. Thanks for watching!

Awesome breakdown! Just so people understand who are in between these two options, the adjustability difference cannot be over stated. It’s the difference between having to swap the oil weight, volume, cut new spacer length, remove and adjust gold valve emulators (if you have those). And then Gsxr forks: just turning a few adjuster knobs. I will be using a rebuilt set of oem forks for the track this year, but I’m sure I’ll switch to the Gsxr forks when I can, for that ease of adjustability and brake upgrade.

Cool guide! I'm actually looking for parts myself to do the swap. Can the SV 650 rotors be reused? Afaik, they are 300 mm which would technically fit k4-k5 calipers, not sure if they would match with a GSXR or SV1k wheel though.
@PASSIONBUILT

Hey there. The SV rotors will not work with this swap. If you’re interested in the parts from this conversion, this exact set will be available on my website next week. www.motopartssource.com

@PASSIONBUILT
@PASSIONBUILT 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The swap on the N models is just as straight forward as it is on the S models. However, if you want to retain the tall handlebar style. You will need to modify the GSXR upper triple or source a custom upper triple that accepts that style of handlebars.
@TheReapersPenguin

@@PASSIONBUILT awesome thank you, do you know of the stock clocks will still fit? And do you happen to k ow of any places that sell custom triples? Again thanks in advance for all the help, it's greatly appreciated
@PASSIONBUILT
@PASSIONBUILT 2 жыл бұрын
With the N model you will need to find the special upper triple specifically made for this conversion for your cluster to bolt on directly. I’ve only parted out one bike with it and the whole conversion set sold very quickly. I’m not sure where the original owner got the triple from. Other than that, the N model owners usually make a custom bracket to adapt the cluster to the triple. I hope this helps!

Question!!??!?!?!? can a SV650 Gen 3 motor, fit into a Gen 2? Is it a plug and play or are there different mounts due to the different frame??
@PASSIONBUILT
@PASSIONBUILT 2 жыл бұрын
I’m not entirely sure since I’ve never had my hands on a Gen 3 SV. The motors across the board are pretty much the same with some minor changes throughout the years. For example. A Gen 1 engine will fit a Gen 2 bike and vice versa but you will need to swap your stator, flywheel, intake manifolds, and something else I’m probably forgetting. Gen 3 shouldn’t be too far off.

Any difference in handling issues that may have arisen from changes to rake and trail?
@PASSIONBUILT
@PASSIONBUILT 2 жыл бұрын
This is a great question. Yes, there are minor changes to the rake and trail after you do this suspension swap. It’s nothing that impedes the bike’s handling in a negative way. This suspension setup was removed off of my other SV that I just parted out and that bike handled wonderfully.

Which master cylinder did you use?
@PASSIONBUILT
@PASSIONBUILT Жыл бұрын
The GSXR master cylinder that the front end was removed from. However, you can use an SV650 or SV1000 master cylinder. If you do plan on using a GSXR master, make sure that you use one that isn’t on the recall list. There is an ongoing recall on certain year GSXR master cylinders that lock up randomly and have caused multiple accidents. Hope this helps 😃👍🏼

Yes it does. My buddy, Sergei, had mentioned to someone else who asked this question on the SV pages yesterday that this conversion on the SV1000 is actually a bit easier because the SV1000 is already equipped with a steering damper mounting point and you don’t have to deal with the speed sensor issue. 🙂👍🏼

That’s awesome! Welcome to the SV family. I’m located in Florida as well. There is 1 thing that I highly recommend you do with your new-to-you SV1000 and that is to do a magnet check on your magneto assembly. The biggest flaw with the SV1000 is that the glue holding the magnets in the magneto assembly fails at some point causing the magnets to come loose and break off into your engine causing catastrophic engine failure. One thing you can do to prevent this is pull the magneto cover and JB WELD the magnets in place to prevent that from ever happening. If the previous owner already did that service then you should be good to go. But if they didn’t, I HIGHLY recommend you do it as soon as possible to prevent it from happening. If you have any questions about the procedure. Please feel free to ask. 🙂👍🏼
