Suzuki V-Strom OEM side case description

In this video I go over the OEM side cases offered by Suzuki for the 2014+ V-Strom DL1000 and 2017+ DL650. Also shown is the 42L Givi Trekker Outback topcase and a special guest appearance of the brand new “Philosopher” graphic for the Shoei RF-1200.

You did an excellent review and thank you for stating the case sizes. I assumed the pipe side case was smaller but I didn't know by how much. You just got a like and a subscriber! Thanks for sharing!

For anybody wondering, I have 2019 VStrom with these, and they are very waterproof. Ride through multiple bad storms, no water got in at all. Left a pair of damp gloves in one and forgot about them for a month, still were damp. So pretty air tight. The one thing I will caution, the metal and rubber piece that bolts to frame and provides support to the front of the case, both of the bolts fell out on both sides. Had to buy new ones and lock tight them.

Thanks for the review. I am picking up left over a 2018 1000XT, and wanted to keep a slim profile. These panniers seem to do the trick. Thanks for sharing A question, was the mounting system already on your bike or did you have yo pick that up separately?

EM FL the pieces are separate and cost extra. A bit irritating, since all you’re doing is swapping two pieces that don’t have loops with the two sold separately pieces that have the loops for the panniers to hook into. Suzuki should have just installed the looped pieces on every bike rather than charging extra for it

@@NYCZ31 Thank you! Very much appreciated. I am returning to the V-strom after riding a KTM 1190R. I had the 650 prior, and now moving to the 1000. Good to know these pieces are extra.

I got mine yesterday from my dealer for a very good price. The official price is way to high but they are so tight on the bike that looks great and provides easy lane splitting.

Did you get the factory locks with them? Just bought mine from dealership and they do NOT come with lock set nor is the set available.

@@frankcastle5294 Suzuki supplies new V-Stroms with 3 extra locks to be used for the optional panniers. Probably your dealer forgot to provide you with those.

@@nestserau Yes and no. Suzuki supplies the 650 and 1050 XT models with a set of 3 small black plastic locks and 2 matching keys that only fit the black/silver clam shell style factory optional cases. Not the Panniers. Got a free set from a lovely man on StromTrooper site. Thanks

I just acquired a set of used OEM cases and was wondering if you could take a picture of the locking mechanism under the key. I have the set of locks that came with my vstrom but they dont seem to have the right tongue on the bottom of the lock. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hello, I am in the same situation. I have the locks that fit in, but came with a almost rectangular generic tab for the latching. The part that attaches to the lock cylinder looks like it needs a pin or 2 to move the door lock and secure the latch. I cant seem to find any info what this looks like or where to get it either. Any help would be appreciated. TIA

Did you guys ever figure this out? Is the old pin style piece removable to where you could attach it to the new lock?

@@infotechsailor The OEM panniers should come with a pair of custom latches that are to be mounted to the lock cylinders you got with your bike. That rectangular latch is removable. I don't think you can get those custom latches separately since they don't have any part number on the package.

No, they are the same panniers, that fit V-Strom 1000 starting 2014, V-Strom 650 starting 2017 and V-Strom 800.

Nope, the ones for the 1050XT are bigger. Part no. 990AA-SIDE1-0XT and they are 26/29 litres. He quotes 19/21 for the ones in the vid which I think is part number 990D0-31JS3-SET

Dr. Jason Epps I would say they are water resistant, not waterproof, because Suzuki sells a set of inner bags for these that are waterproof. That said, I rode with them through a couple of moderate rain showers and they were fine.

Just came home from a trip to northern Europe on a V-Strom with same cases. Don´t buy them! Far to small........Right case is almost just for show.....

The smaller pannier fits three drybags of 8 + 8 + 4 liters. That's not a lot, but that's enough if you pack smart. I've done a two week trip with a pillion with only 55 liters of luggage + a 5 liter tank bag and wasn't missing anything. If you're travelling solo, you should be absolutely content with the panniers.

Good job on making the video. OEM cases are rubbish, poorly designed. Buy an aftermarket set.

Just for the record, they are made in Germany, do not make the bike wider, do not impede pillion comfort, will work with your ignition key and leave no ugly scaffolding when not on the bike. Aftermarket won't get you all of these features at once, it's always either or. But you're entitled to your opinion of course.
