Disaster averted :) I just never know what is going to happen. Before everyone lectures me in the comments on the art of candy making, I follow the instructions. I test these sets without doing research, much like the kids this is designed for. If there needs to be a schooling on candy making, you would think they should include more information on how long to crank it in the machine and what it it is supposed to be like when you finish. I ended up with hard candy which was pretty tasty and I think most young kids would be happy with the results if they could get it to work. Have I learned my candy making lesson? I sure have. Cook it for 15 minutes - keep the water hot and work quickly!
This video is intended for parents to help them make an informed decision about purchasing the item shown in the video.

My favorite part was the actual taffy pulling. So soothing and mesmerizing to watch. I love how quickly the color changed both before and after adding food coloring. I would have wanted the consistency to be the same as Play-dough but that's not the traditional consistency. I've never liked taffy for the simple reason that it gets stuck in my molars and takes a long time to chew. Just like Tootsie Rolls. Cool maker though. Food maker videos are my favorite from this channel, although I have watched other videos of yours over the years. It's been awhile since I've consistently watched your videos since you slowed down on the maker sets until recently but I do pause and take a look at the thumbnail shot you have on each of your videos that comes up in my subscriptions feed. Can't remember how long it's been since I first subscribed to your channel. Must be between 5-8 or 9 years ago. I wish KZfaq had a way for people to see just how long they have been a subscriber to a channel just like you can see when a person joined KZfaq in the first place.

I just realized something the penny in the intro is a 2009 penny with a Lincoln memorial back, which don’t exist all 2009 pennies have a weird tails side that isn’t the new style or old style.

ITzSmores yes there are 4 different backs of the 2009 penny. They are Lincoln with different stages of his life. One is Lincoln standing next to the White House/ capital building. Another is the construction of the White House/ capital building. The third is him reading a book on a log with I think a croquet hitter thing. And I don’t have the last one. But when someone possesses all 4 in good quality they could sell them for pretty decent money.

I appreciate it. There are hundreds of vintage candy and food related toys I have made videos of in this long format style. I decided 10 years ago, to put as much of my content from a process on video as possible and not chop out most of the details. This way it is part of toy history and a complete demonstration of the process.

@@LuckyPennyShop maybe you could do 2 edits. Have the long format version start to end but then have a shortened version that has all the highlights without any waiting, pouring etc. Just thinking it might help with the KZfaq algorithm and also you'd be catering to both crowds that will watch your videos as I've heard watch percentage vs total vodeo time can be a big thing and someone skipping through won't do you any good. Anyway was just a quick suggestion.

I'm loving the return to vintage makers. They are my favorite. I think the taffy needed cooked a little less and pulled longer for it to be soft.

I have never seen butter added to the basic candy mixture. Water, sugar and corn syrup is the basis for ALL candy, like ribbon candy, hard candy, taffy, candy canes, ect. I think 240 is too hot.... 234 is better. For those that don't know, when the candy goes from clear to white, it is the air bubbles that make it white. This is a cool maker set.... I heard the words, but my old brain can only remember pickles and cheese puffs.

I assume the butter is added to aid in lubrication, to keep the candy slightly pliable. This is merely my extrapolation from what butter as an ingredient does in baking.

I thought this too. I think the mixture simply got too hot and went from soft crack to hard crack which is why it crunched in his mouth when he tasted it the first time. Still a decent result for likely making it for the first time AND with what it was made on. Looks like fun either way.

It just needs another pinch of butter and when you microwaved it, you kinda extracted a little moisture as well. Taffy needs moisture to stay Taffy like. Good first attempt 👍
