SVBony SV106 Guide Scope: amzn.to/303lUey
SVBony Dovetail Base: amzn.to/3oEjrkP
Can you use a guide scope as a finder scope? I did. Here are my first impressions of the SVBONY 50 mm guide scope. While this seems to be a generic guide scope that has sold under different brand names, it doesn’t appear to be cheaply made. This appears to be a good quality product with excellent fit and finish. The rough focussing tube is long enough to reach focus without the need of an extension. The helical focuser was very smooth with no rough grinding feel. When rotating the focuser, it does not rotate whatever is attached at the focuser end. So if you have a camera attached, it will remain in the same orientation instead of twisting any cables that might be attached to it. When I aligned it during the day, I found the images came through very clearly. The 6 thumb screws took some getting used to for alignment but I was able to align it with precision. I also appreciate how it has nylon tips to prevent scratching the scopes' nice finish. Finally, the price of this guide scope is so reasonable that I think it offers excellent value for your money. A few things worth noting are that the trade off for not needing an extension tube to reach focus is that you cannot use a diagonal as an attachment. Also, this did not come with any manual so you would have to figure it out for yourself on how to assemble and install it. I hope this video helped a little bit in that regard. And lastly, the images through the eyepiece appear upside down, but I already expected that. Overall, I think this is a great addition to my astronomy gear.

Every time I start looking at the night sky through telescopes or even camcorders...I start having these really wild and vivid dreams that won't let up for years! Maybe it's time again.

Welcome back! Was hoping you'd upload again. :-) I'm using an 80mm finder @328mm focal length, with a 90° amici prism and a 20mm 70° crosshair eyepiece and it also has a helical focuser. Let me tell you, that thing REALLY lives up to its name. Best investment I ever did into my scope so far.

Thank you so much for your video. I just got my guide scope and was saddened to see that it did not have any instructions in it but thanks to your awesome video, it was a breeze to put together. I definitely will follow you for other tips!

Hey Michael ! Great to see you back on track for a video ! I made numbers of sketches since i begun in 2018. I remember your video about it, that helped me too. And i'll be happy to share them with you. One of my sketches (M10) have been published in the French Astronomical society magazine! Amazing ! You're somewhere a little part of that ;) Guillaume. It's a good guidescope, I use it (unbranded one) for astrophotography. 2" aperture, 190mm focal length, so it allows the PHD2 software to detect any shifts on the tracking without overcorrecting the mount.

It's a great guide scope, I use it when shooting with a Hyperstar on my EdgeHD-800. If you are only looking for a finder scope, buy a finder scope. The SV208 is a great option for that. I use the 208 to manually track the Space Station.

I just got this scope to replace a non align-able scope for guiding on a comet. Great value. Update: I mounted this on my AT115EDT's handle using ADM clamps and not using the supplied dovetail. It works great with the ASI102MM mini guide camera and routinely gives less than 0.5 arc second guiding. I've used it on an HEQ5 and now AM5 mount. Focal length seems to be more like 200mm.

Hey, your back! Im so glad you posted again. I saw a celestron astromaster 130eq in your background I just wanted to ask if its a good telescope. Some people say the telescopes mirror is badly made and will give you blurry images. Is that true? And by the way great video:)

Hi. I am new to this hobby. And your chanel has encouraged me a lot about stargazing to the point that I am considering buying my First telescope for myself and my 2 sons aged 8 and 6. Where I live in Dhaka, Bangladesh telescopes are hard to come by and pretty expensive because of shipping and duty. Most of them are high/intermediate ones and very pricy or toys. Very rarely we come across good beginner telescopes. After much searching I found 2. If you or anyone here could give me advice it'll super helpful. My 2 options are Celestron Starsense 114LT and another is 70×700 mm refractor. I gather from my limited knowledge is the 114LT is better but here it is about $120 more than the 70×700mm Refractor which is coming in about $220 as it is. I'm not sure if 114LT at $340 will be worth for me as a beginner or not. Or is it better to go for the simpler $220 70×700mm refractor. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

So this scope cannot be used with a diagonal? I have a tall dobson (almost 2m) and I am tall too :) so I don't want to break my neck with a normal straight finder scope. I cannot use a 90o diagonal and an eye piece with this model in order not to crouch anymore?

IF you see stars as a pinpoint you're not doing anything wrong. If the stars appear as smudges, or conical in shape, then your dobs needs collimation.

He'll sir how I this guide scope install in my AstroMaster EQ 130 ?
@Medigato
@Medigato 2 жыл бұрын
You'll need a dovetail base screwed into the tube, however since your scope is a newtonian, probably you'll need something smaller, that doesn't interfere with the focuser.

Because diagonals alter the focal length and it may not reach focus with the eyepiece.
