12:30 that is so tough. Speaking different languages, having to translate very specific details between 2 great artiest. In insane what the end results were.

Thank you for uploading this precious material. Sven was very patient with Andrey. And I think that communicating all the time through the translator did not help to make a relationship between the director and the DoP.

I’m sure it was a bit of an obstacle but the translator was brilliant. Also both Sven and Andrei apparently could speak to each other in Italian. I had the honor of being allowed on set as Sven’s guest while studying cinematography at DI. The relationship between them seemed very good. Tarkovsky even invited me to film some behind the scenes during the nightmare sequence (my Arri S was way too noisy to use in studio).

It’s called a Gaffer’s glass it’s a pocket-sized lens that has ND rating of 3.8 and is held up to one’s eye giving user a clearer picture as to how the shot is lit.
