Ha thanks, it was somewhat unintentional. I used that music track just because it was the right length for the remaining runtime and I hadn't used it before but when I popped it in it lined up almost perfectly and slightly changed the tone I had imagined when writing it. Always fun when it works out unexpectedly like that.

Here we go then! Episode 1 of 9 for the Reunification War. Let me know what you think! Aiming to get at least one episode out a week until it's done. All the voice work is recorded and supporting material gathered, just need to edit them together. When I first started scripting the next chapter in my BattleTech Lore & History series, I envisioned a 45 minute video and thought that would be quite an ambitious project for me. The more I researched it and wrote up my summaries, it grew and grew until the final runtime came in at 3.5 hours. But after months of work, the end is drawing near. Now I know what George Lucas was feeling when he said, "I may have gone too far in a few places." When the idea popped into my head to have a spinning Inner Sphere at the start, I laughed and just couldn't stop myself from going ahead with it, no matter how cheesy it might look. I also swear I will never try to animate a space battle again (at least not like that). You know when you're doing something and you think to yourself "This CANNOT be the right way to do this..." that was me throughout. Ended up with a ridiculous number of video tracks and the end result looks pretty janky, but hey-ho. Writing this has wildly changed the way I view the Star League and to a lesser extent the periphery. I think when I first included the quote at the end of the video in my script, I imagined it as more of a threat against the greater good. Knowing what's about to happen over the next 20 years, I can say it's actually defiance in the face of certain oblivion. There is NOTHING good or honourable about the Reunification War. It was an awful thing perpetrated by awful people, no matter how they spin it.

I am so glad you threw in some eye candy... I love you videos but in all honesty I had to watch the longer ones in bits due to it just being dots on a map. Personally the images just help put it all together to give me a rough idea of the scale of the battles. Plus I enjoy seeing the art work.🙂 Still love the way you present the information as if it where real.

I really appreciate your portrayal of the Star League as the imperialist aggressor that it is. Characters from the Inner Sphere and the Clans both tend to look back at the Star League with nostalgia, which makes a lot of sense for them in-universe, but we fans out-of-universe often seem to adopt that same perspective uncritically. I think one of the reasons the setting works so well is that every faction has serious flaws, and it's good to be reminded that the Star League is no exception.

This was definitely something that came as a surprise to me as I was doing the reading. I went into it thinking "some generals took extreme actions to win the war" and came out thinking "bunch of genocidal imperialist monsters slaughtered millions for no reason other than personal gain." You'll see in later episodes as I go on the tone in my writing changes as I become increasingly anti-Star League. Ep7 is probably the culmination of that.

@RamboMc_96 your comment got caught in the spam filter for some reason so I've only just seen it. I think the lack of images is currently the biggest failing of my videos. Before I start on the next series I'm going to go through all my sourcebooks and build a collection of artwork that I can organise and tag for better visuals in the future. At the moment I'm just working with the 70-80 images I've got from the HBS game.

I like how much Battletech lore reads like history. It’s heightened, of course, and exaggerated in scale to a comic degree, but that works for it. This is a future where giant robots hit each other with axes, if it restrained itself in faux realism it would be worse. This is a future where men with too much power decided to try to conquer the known universe, and is about all that followed.

This is one of my favs , out of your many awesome lore videos, mostly because of how you do the large naval battle in this one. I would enjoy any and all warship actions done in the same way. Keep up the great work pls ty.

Thanks. I was never super happy with how I did the space battles. I'd only do them this way again if I could improve on things. I'd love to do them properly with some 3D models but that would massively extend production time.

Awesome video! Well presented. You are now my go to! Notifications will be turned on. I have spent my life obsessed with star wars, then a few years with war hammer. I then found out MechWarrior had an expansive universe aswell only a few months ago... Down the rabbit hole I go! Again...

Thanks, glad you're enjoying the video. I've not even been a BT fan that long in the grand scheme of things. Think it was Critical Rocket's LoreWarrior series that made me aware that there was a franchise beyond the two games I played way back in the day.
