She had a much weaker floor routine than Patterson, her beam was a hot mess, vault wasn’t as fantastic as you like to think it was, and her bars was good but not her best either- which every commentary team remarked on. She lost the AA because she didn’t hit where it counted most- Carly did. If she really wanted the AA crown she’d have focused on it and not on being an actress. Simple as that.

Every time I rewatch Khorkina’s 2004 AA performance, the more I believe she didn’t deserve a medal. Beam was a disaster with missed connections, huge bobbles, and leaps nowhere near 180 degrees. On floor, her double tuck jump was massively underrotated, her heel dropped on her triple spin, and her double pike landed crumpled with her head at her knees. Beam and floor should have barely scored in the 9s; not the mid 9s like she got.

​@jfeathe1211 I agree. As much as I like Khorkina's gymnastics, she definitely got some gifts that night. Beam and floor especially was over-scored by couple tenths.

@@jfeathe1211 Yep, Pavlova and Khorkina should have swapped positions in this AA result. Khorkina had many composition problems to fix: *Bars:* Stalder 1/1 out of the Pak was completely unnecessary and always had an execution error, she could have put it later in the routine from handstand. The 1.5 pirouette was also unnecessary (and killed her in the event final), she could have used a couple of 1/2 turn pirouettes in the routine instead. *Beam:* Who was she kidding with that tour jete? Who told her she was close to being in 180 split? Should have done a Switch 1/4 instead. For the dismount it's a mystery why she, and so many others, weren't doing a forward facing Gainer layout for the easiest possible D skill. *Floor:* The tuck 2/1 was usually messy and her Split 1/1 was lacking in split by 2004. Should have gone for double turn + 2/1 jump landing in front support instead. Her very inconsistent triple turn should have been replaced with a Double-L.

Ummm. No. You tell from the beginning her first pass is completely landed out of control. She was only able to mask it with that jump out of the connection. Her tumbling was weaker than Patterson's. Don't even get me started on her beam routine. That was atrocious and was actually scored way hinger than it should have been. I don't know what was going on with her by Athens but those sunken cheeks scream extreme and quick weightloss. She looks completely unhealthy here and her performances bare that out here. Say what you will but Patterson was the rightful winner here and anyone who says otherwise is delusional.

Of uneven bars only. Oh and, being a terrible sport too- let’s not forget that.
