You know it's truly amazing when a game of snooker gives the viewer an adrenaline rush and goosebumps

I scored a 147 once, when I was 13 years old. Took about 5 hours 22 minutes. It was my first 18 hole round of golf. I've gotten better over the years but not by much.

Meanwhile on the other table, Peter Ebdon had made a break of 9 and was just having the cueball cleaned for the 6th time.

Your 21 playing in front of TV cameras in the world championship knowing you could win £147,000 almost £250,000 in today’s money and you rattle in the fastest ever maximum break without hesitating this has to be one of the most flawless examples of sporting perfection ever. A world record which is already 23 years old and I suspect will never be broken

It's crazy to think, that this was 26 years ago, and now he is still the best player in the world.

Just want to mention the referee Len Ganley, who had a little part in setting this record. One of the best and most respected referees ever. He always adapted his speed of refereeing to the speed of the game and the players. The perfect referee to set this record. I can think of other referees (without mentioning them ;) , with which this break would have taken minutes longer

Imagine being Mick Price, and knowing that your biggest claim to fame in snooker will now always be the fact that you sat there and watched Ronnie do this.

Watching this again in 2024. 27 years ago this magician showed us why he will forever be the best snooker player to play the game.

For any non snooker players who have just happened to watch this, please believe me when I say that snooker is an incredibly hard game to play.

When you’ve played snooker at any level you know there are a thousand ways of messing up every shot. This is perfection made to look ridiculously simple. Speed of thought, perfect cueing, incredible accuracy......astonishing.

Big deal, I got a 147 in 2 minutes. Mind you, I was playing darts

It's hard to truly emphasize how hard this is to do, you can spend your whole life practicing this game and never make it past the 3rd or 4th red, the precision and coordination needed can only really be properly appreciated once you have realised how hard this sport actually is. It's a cliche but he really did make this look ridiculously easy, almost to the point of the routine. There are many contenders but for me this will always be the greatest break of all time. Given the speed, precision and the life changing prize money on the line I can't see how this will ever be topped.

This was, and remains, the most perfect frame of snooker in the history of the game.

No-one will ever dismantle the game of snooker so thoroughly, so comprehensively, and with such ease and speed ever again. Strangely, his talent was so huge that it nearly sent him round the bend. Thankfully, he has been able to get a grip on his thoughts and feelings and find ways to cope that work for him.

I was 13 when Ronnie performed this miracle, and let's face it it really was a sporting miracle. I remember my dear departed grandad picking me up from school and telling me I was in for a real treat when the highlights came on later that evening, and by god he couldn't have been more right. Fast forward 27 years and I've just shown this to my 12 year old lad who started to show an interest in snooker during covid. I wanted him to spend a while playing and really understanding how difficult this game is before showing it to him, because only then can you appreciate what a transcendental few minutes this really is. As others have said, there isnt a chance in hell this record will ever be beaten. Respect to JV and especially Dennis for their pitch perfect commentary too - despite being a world champ himself Dennis was truly one of us that day, just a fan watching in awe as his own sport was perfected in front of his very eyes. I've downloaded a copy of the vid in case it should ever disappear from KZfaq - I want to be able to tell my grandson one day that he's in for a real treat when I collect him from school one Monday evening in the future.

I was at school when Ronnie made thus break, I'm now 43. He also won in the first round of the 2023 World Championship yesterday defending his title.

I've watched this so many times. I'm an expat American living in Scotland for more than 20 years. Gained not only an appreciation of the game while living here, but also for the understated British humour. Like when the announcer says, 'I'm beginning to get a bit excited,' he was so calm. If it was being held in the US with an American commentator, they would have heard him in China shouting about how insane what they were seeing was ;-)

My highest brake was 96....missed a pink not far off the middle bag. This was 20years ago, I can still recall how sick I felt as I had been chasing the tonne break for about 5yrs by that point. All I wanted was to just make one 100+ break so my name and break could be engraved onto the clubs notorious 100+ brake placard! I had made countless 50's 60's 70's and 80's over those years but could never quite get that tonne!🙃😒 I stopped playing league snooker because of back problems and issues with my knees for around 15yrs. Got covid back in October 2021 and almost lost my life. Had clots on both lungs, then contracted double pneumonia months later, just recently was diagnosed with myocarditis from the covid complications. Felt hopeless and like I was giving up on life. I felt like my whole essence and spirit was giving up on life. I was spending more time in bed than I was out of it! I decided that I had to do "something at least" that would get me moving again, something I enjoyed and something I knew I was good at so I choose to dust off my old cue and start playing again, simply to get me out of the house, on my feet and walking again. To my surprise I am still struggling and having very difficult days but I am playing the best snooker of my life. My eyes have gotten worse over the years but I found a pair of glasses that allow me to play whilst still being able to see clearly through the lense whilst down on a shot! This has helped me no end, my enthusiasm for the game has returned even though I get tired very quickly because my heart is not functioning ad it should and by the end of a match night I am properly exhausted😴 I am back knocking in 70's 80's 90's and even did a 122 clearance in line up "practice". I've made many 30's 40's and a few 50's in practice matches and did a 33 break in a league match a few weeks ago after only 10wks back in the league after 15yrs out. My goal is still to get my name engraved on that placard in the snooker club along side all the great players that have come and gone before me, one of them was my uncle Gary Morgan who was a great semi pro player and a regular tonne breaker. The myocarditis has shortened my lifespan considerable but if I can achieve my goal of that tonne on the board before I depart this earth it would really make my day! I honestly believe I can do it. Its just going to be one of those days when everything feels right and bobs your uncle there it will be after all these years of trying! It's uncanny how your life can be turned upside-down in an instant and even more uncanny that something like a game of snooker could literally be helping save your life. I know this story has nothing to do with this video of Ronnie's masterful 147 but after catching the bug again I am watching more snooker clips...that is something I havnt been interested in doing in years! Well...here is to my first ever tonne break. Let's get it done🎱 If anybody read this that's struggling mentally or physically with your health and feels like giving up, there is always something out there worth fighting for! Even something as silly and irrelevant as having your name scribed on a placard so that the ones that come after me can see that i was one of the few that actually did it! What I'm trying to say is find something you once loved and put your attention into that instead of worrying about tomorrow! Tomorrow may never come, literally! Make the most of the people that love you guys. Get rid of the ones that don't. When you find yourself in a position of hardship you will very quickly find out who is worth keeping around and who is not! Sad but very very true. The most beautiful aspect of this game is that he not only did this effortlessly, he just went for it because why not? At his level back then, what's the point of just winning when you can deliver one of the most impressive feat in sports with just as much ease and enjoyment. No other 147 break will ever compare to this, this is not only mastery, it's total genius and confidence for the public to appreciate. Even If you know nothing about snooker it's hard to believe what is going on when watching this. Impossible to not admire this game and Ronnie as a person and his anticlimactic mic drop like it is nothing.

If you watch this video at 0.5 speed it will feel like an 'normal' game.

A big reason as to why this was achievable was the role played by the referee. On 14 of the 15 reds, he had the black back on its spot by the time (or before) the white stopped rolling. The only time he placed the black a bit late was after 3rd red, where he placed it some 1/2 a second after the white had stopped. Big credit goes to this official, who was part of history that will most likely never be repeated, but I've never seen him being given any credit. I could be mistaken, but I do not recall reading anything anywhere about this official's role.

I still watch this and think of all sporting records, this is the one that will be hardest to beat.

The thing I love about the break is, you only see mick price once on the camera while ronnie is doing what he does....mick is simply smiling at someone in the crowd happy for ronnie at what he was about to achieve.

It was unbelievably fast. Even great players would struggle to do a century break in that time but Ronnie is beyond great. There will never be another player like him for sheer natural talent.

This is art. This is absolute perfection. I doubt anyone has ever performed so perfectly in anything. Love you Ronnie.

In my opinion, this equates to Tiger Woods getting 3 hole in ones on an 18 hole course, or Messi scoring 100 goals in a football season. It SHOULD be impossible. It's ridiculous. The greatest sporting achievement ever, in my humble opinion. It's truly a work of art. Anyone who says this isn't remarkable, has never seen a snooker table up close, let alone played a frame on one.

Ronnie O'Sullivan, the greatest Snooker player who ever lived, playing one of the greatest matches, with the best referee for the job, and during one of the greatest eras for Snooker. It is remarkable. And I still can't stop coming back and rewatching.

I can never watch this enough, absolute perfection. Ronnie O'Sullivan has so much more natural talent than any other Snooker player in history, and now at the age of 45 his stats speak for themselves, holds almost all the records and with some has done for many years, will this fast a 147 ever happen again? I don't think so. What a man, what a legend.
