Yup, since it's a before the pass penalty, you can never know how the route would have played out and how close they would have been. Even if you didn't throw it to him, it would still be holding, possibly preventing him from being a viable target. I get that Mahomes is supposed to be the next Brady, I just wish they would not make it it such a close game to not let them play. That was not a hold that stopped him and anyone who has played football knows that and this includes the refs. Since you can not "tell" in real-time, this is why there needs to be a ref in the booth to make the call to pick up the flag. A penalty that effectively kills the remainder of the game needs to be so egregious that no reasonable and rational fan objects. 50 years as a fan and did not care who won the game and it pissed me off.

And the chiefs couldn’t stop the eagles either, but the refs helped them out by reversing Devontas catch after allowing Andy to challenge that play because of the first time in history they threw a flag for “not allowing the defense to make substitutions” and calling the worst flag in nfl history clinching the win for the chiefs

Rich acknowledges that it was a hold, but he'd rather the ref not make the right call so he can be more entertained by the ending? This seems to be a pattern with Mahommes for some reason. When the rules produces an outcome that he wins, it's something wrong with the rules (i.e. the Buffalo overtime game 2 years ago), but when the rules produces an outcome that he loses, the other quarterback/team was better (i.e. defensive neutral zone infraction in the AFC championship against the Patriots).

So at what point do you suggest that we no longer have flags thrown? 1 min left 2 mins left? Because then it’s a free for all. Just wait till the last 2 minutes and tee up the QB can’t call it cuz it may change the out come of the game. Or simply don’t commit the foul. The rule has no clock requisites for fouls being committed.

@@adamant5550 I'm for full time refs, calls every few seconds, sky judges and robots, if we can get them. All this has nothing to do with a rule broken and a correct call in the latest superbowl. I'm not for telling refs to "swallow their flag". If that's your point, lets just get rid of rules, officials and thus football altogether.

@@mjamitche5245 I agree it was the correct call, but there were similar holds that went uncalled. I want consistency. That's all. For a multi-billion dollar industry, that shouldn't be a tall ask.

If Patrick didn't throw it his way that flag would not have been thrown, that's why it took so long for the flag to be thrown

Why not make it mandatory to review any flag that happens in a playoff game within the last 2 minutes?

In this game, any review would have upheld the call since the defender admitted he committed a penalty.

@@blawthomp The defender admitted it after the game was over. But, in any case, if a review showed it as a true holding penalty, then all good. The game continues as it did. But a review would lessen the doubts and outrage from Eagle's fans.

Davnte catch was a drop for sure. And while small it was a hold, call a penalty if theres a penalty always

As a heartbroken Eagles fan: Hell of a game. That holding call was brutal, but the Hurts fumble ended up being the difference (and maybe the Quez Watkins drop). Mahomes and the Chiefs got it done. That's really all you can say.

My man , as a diehard fan I feel your pain . For a long time chief would play outstanding games the whole season but would lose in the first round of playoffs . I have seen so many bogus calls against my chiefs in the past . Eagles D was ferocious by the stats but couldn't stop the chiefs offence . The game was lost not cuz of refs but they got out coached by andy and his Crew .

It was a penalty, and that’s a fact. Want to blame someone? One team was utterly out-coached.

Same concept as the Moore touchdown and the Toney touchdown... Drive hard inside against aggressive defensive back... Whip out... This time the defender was really close and saw he guessed wrong so he held jersey... ..I actually wonder if Mahomes saw the hold and then sailed the ball a bit in case they didn't call the hold to avoid an interception.

Catch that was not a catch...hold that was not a hold...whatever. There is a human factor in each game...and even James Bradberry admits that did hold him with his right hand (which we couldn't see from the angle). The Eagles even said it didn't come down to that one play.
