I got goosebumps everywhere while watching this. The Japanese interpretation of Swan Lake is really soft, emotional and elegant with a touch of humour then and there that I enjoy a lot. The main dancer's techniques are wonderful. I love her Odile very much! It's a typical Odile in my mind with her glamour and joy. And I rewatch her 32 fouettes turns with lot of admiration. Ị just wish that her Odette could show more affection for the Prince, her expressions are weak and kind of self - centered in the end and too much of coldness and fierce at the beginning. Still I really appreciate her! No comment for the Prince, his face itself suits a charming dead-loving prince and he is really a good partner, he takes good care of her, dances to her rhythm and gives her lot of supports. Worth watching performance!

At the end of it all, I enjoyed the show. The strengths here were : 1. the well-rehearsed technical precision of the corps de ballet-- their lines, timing, and overall placement in space relative to one another was utterly superb. I've never seen a production (live or filmed) that featured a corps de ballet with as much rigor as that of the Tokyo Ballet here. Bravo, dancers. 2. the choreography and its execution-- the dancing throughout the show, from the corps de ballet as previously mentioned as well as from the soloists and principal dancers, was clean, clear, and deliberate. Like reading the printed text of these words on the screen, the dancing was undeniably legible. This is due in part to the choreography, and the dancers performed with immense technical accuracy, including in some very difficult, perhaps under-appreciated moments. Again, bravo. 3. the staging, lighting, costumes-- I so appreciate sets and costumes that are not over-exaggerated. What a relief! The peasants costumes and the party costumes were distinct from one another, decorative enough to be costumes yet with enough restraint such that the dancers were not obscured by façade or fabric. There was exaggeration where warranted, i.e. the queen and the mothers of the potential brides, whose costumes, by the way, were especially exquisite. Weakness : 1. acting, mime-scenes-- strong as the technique was, the acting in the first two acts was lacking, primarily from the principal dancers, which is somewhat disappointing. the expressiveness (both in facial alertness and musicality) of the soloists in the first act was marvelous, a lovely balance of restraint and effusiveness. I could easy watch only the first act again and again... and again and again. (In fact, I did. I enjoyed it *that* much.) I wish Mr. Martinez and the Swan Queen (who is so unfortunately uncredited here...... >_> Garfield Zheng ) had been more expressive with their acting. I am not overly depressed about it, however, BECAUSE the explosive vigor of act 3, the "seduction" in the castle, was SUCH a shock. It *actually* came out of no where! I was totally not expecting such a forceful performance! AND THIS is very possibly because of the flatness of the previous acts. Indeed, upon watching this a second time it all makes a bit more sense. For instance, it makes sense that Mr. Martinez' character as the Prince is so uninterested and dull, because the Prince himself is probably depressed. Think about it: its his birthday, he's not in love, he's restless and does not know what to do with his life and yet he knows he will have to marry soon. Whaaat a bummer?! A similar situation with the Swan Queen, who herself has been trapped for God knows how long, has probably given up hope, and as a result has become the flighty, over-wary ("afraid of someone", as someone wrote in the comments below). Anyway... the acting is much better from the principal dancers in the second half of the performance than in the first. Strong work, dancers!!! Tokyo Ballet is officially on my list of companies I must see perform live. How exciting!!

Superlativi.Bighin GIULIO RENZO. 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊

Jose Martinez is spectacular .. She is not bad .. I did not find her acting terrible .. And her technique is rock solid, the rest can come with time .. The corp is well trained and did very well. I'm sorry I do not read Japanese so I do not know who choreographed this .. The Prince's solo in act 1 lookers like Nureyev .. But I would like to know who did the rest. I loved the special effects .. Swans flying, erupting mountain and it was very effective ripping his wing off ..

Generally speaking in ballet and in other artforms as well, the Japanese have never been originators but rather refiners of the arts of other more robust cultures. Ballet in Japan compared to ballet in the west is tempermentally very different. The super-repressed, doll-like nature of the Japanese approach has worked well for generations in the east. However, with communications being what they are these days around the world, such exquisitly polished and fanatically well rehearsed sequences would not do terribly well in the west, even with the marvellously espressive characterizations of the jester in the opening scenes and Odette/ Odile later on.

Indeed... seems she put more concentration on technique than on acting... and obviously they two have no privity at all...

Sorry it doesn't do it for me. No warmth in Odette and her shoes?!!!! She must have borrowed them. Watch Fonteyn/Nureyev for the ultimate.
