Very nice. Have a blown head gasket in my 03 Dakota and being low on cash can't afford to fix it right now. With my right shoulder issues replacing the head gaskets is going to be a pain as well. Honestly might just be easier to do a swap since the old one has 220K on it. Going to a 08 to 12 4.7l will get me something with about 70 to 80 HP more as well as a little more torque, the only major issue is the exhaust manifold is a little bit different so the exhaust will need to be fixed and the intake needs a bracket since the 08 was drive by wire and the 03 isn't. Computer should hook up just fine though as mine is the 4 plug NGC already. Now to find a salvage engine and may as well pull trans too. Then finding somewhere to do the work. There is no way I am giving up this truck though. It was one of the only major things my wife and I purchased together and we have a ton of memories in it together. She passed away Feb last year so it means a lot more to me than the sum of it's parts.

K-Seal. I've been a service tech for 20+yrs and until I tried K-Seal I thought all headgasket in a can products were snakeoil or dangerous. It won't perform miracles but it's a cheap first shot. Lately roadkill had found it's amazing ability and had a couple total fixes on junkyard cars with it. Normally they blur the products but actually took the time out to mention the product too
@yeahitskimmel
@yeahitskimmel 4 жыл бұрын
Also wanted to say I'm sorry to hear about your wife. I vote for replacing the headgasket vs a full motor/trans swap, especially if you're hurt and it'd be great to have the honor of taking it to 300k
@VentShop
@VentShop 4 жыл бұрын
@@yeahitskimmel I have used something similar for head gasket repair. It helped but not 100%. I am limping by for now. The issue with replacing the head gasket is everything that has to be pulled apart. It's overhead cam so that makes it a major job to deal with. I have done a lot of work on it, recently rebuilt the front end with all new bushings and ball joints, tore one side apart one day, had a shop replace the bushings as I could get them out but not back in and my shoulder was dead. Waited a few days then put them back in. Then a few weeks later did the other side the same way. The service manual talks about pulling the master cylinder among other things as well to do the head gaskets. There is some top end noise as the lash adjuster are old and probably should do timing chain and gears if I am that far into it. Which adds a ton more work which all takes time. By the time I do that it may as well be a rebuild so then I am at the point of why rebuild when I can swap and net a few gains. Either way I have to save before I can do anything at all. A long block is around 2500 to 3000 and a rebuild kit before any machine work is around 700. Engine and trans at LKQ is about 600 and I end up with a trans with a lot less mileage on it as well. Going to a newer engine I get a better head that doesn't have the same issue with the lash adjusters getting weak as they get older too. And thank you, I miss her very much and she always helped me deal with the stress of things like this. I lost my wife and best friend in the same day. When I found her I tried to bring her back and at one point broke her breastbone and tore my shoulder up even more.

Deleting the A/C the way you did creates a problem. Air flows through the heater core and the A/C evaporator (even when A/C is not in use.) Air flow and temperature regulation is varied by the blend door inside the cab. Walling off the cold side is going to mean the only air flow will be through the heater core.

Mike C thanks for the knowledge-however Ford only called the 351 the Windsor directly to distinguish between the 351C. (My dad had a clevor in a Bronco). They are all sbf replacing the Y engines. So at the end of the day its kinda simantics😆

Deleting the A/C is a real chickenshit move. You've just taken a lot of the pleasure out of driving a performance based vehicle. I've had to go without A/C before until I could fix it, and it's awful. No interest in this build now. You guys just take the easy way out rather than solving the problem.
