Swapping out interior on Mercedes w140 s500 and why you should never do it

Moving forward this has been an amazing experience and I can't wait to see the final outcome. If you decide to do this, take your time and remember your dealing with 25 plus year old parts and they can and will break.

Pete, I love your videos so much input... here's a tip on when you swap interior, I done it many times on my w140s. Just swap out the leather it's very easy and keep all the mechanical frame. Yes some are different specially with the back seat that reclines but the leather is the same fit..

I typically do it on the front seats that are torn.. even the passenger seat leather fits to the driver seat. As long as you keep the main frame.

Thanks. Yes a few of my good friends said the same thing. I think I may do that with the reclining rear seat. I was going to dye it or weld the pieces onto the other frame Reason I didn’t want to do that with front seat is because I had everything in tact and had to remove them no matter what so found it easier to just put them in. Next video coming out soon will have all the interior in.

This reminds me of over 15 plus years collecting interior & complete dashboard for Lincoln Mark 7 Lincoln & 97Mark 8. Thankfully I do not need to do this for my 92 mint condition 154,000 highway miles S500. Looking at this car's interior let me see there's much more to experience with German engineering.

Let me know if you need any help. Don’t force anything. Most items have brittle tabs at this age

Hi,your car is 1st gen and it is even not s500 but 500SEL,there is a possibility many parts are different because of the generation difference and not because of reclining or not.Hood luck and enjoy your 140.They are real gems when taken care properly.

Thanks. It is a 95 s500 is spec. Ended up finding out through vin search and title.

Hi, I might have missed it but how did you get the non reclining seat to bolt down?

So the car comes pre drilled for both non and reclining seat mounts. The non reclining seat worth bolt under the lining that runs along the door frame. On the inside track of door frame and than I believe it’s another piece of felt covered plastic that pulls off to cover bolt

Hey Pete I have a question at 1:00 when u looked mine says it’s a 99 on the registration with the bin number and everything but when I look on the side it says 08/98

So yes. Keep in mind they build cars way in advance of release date. So 8/98 is build day but then it’s a 99. Think about when they sell a car in 2022 but it’s a 2023 model

Hey Pete, any idea why my rear headrests in My 94 w140 won't stay up? I hit the button and hear the air pump going but the headrests don't move or stay in place. Have you experienced this before?

So you have a leak in system. Most likely air line has a crack. Or could be loosing are at the plastic valve that creates the pressure to lift the headrest.
