As far as your concerns about the lack of a warranty, Leatherman has an amazing 25 year warranty, but will honor a warranty for almost any knife. If the knife has been discontinued, they can usually rebuild it with spare parts or replace it with a comparable tool. I've been carrying the original wave a friend gave me for years and broke some parts on it. They were happy to keep the frame that had sentimental value and rebuild the entire tool with wave+ parts at no cost to me. I also snapped the saw off of a sidekick while abusing it and they sent me a brand new identical tool for the cost of shipping.

I get it, but because I'm often out camping, the serated knife goes through cordage and ropes, so much better and once you learn how the resharpen them, there's no turning back. Having said all of that, one of the great beauties of Leatherman, is the ability to mod and personalise the tool. Nice work mate and G'day from Australia 😉🇦🇺

You can find individual parts on Ebay but they aren't especially cheap. I think Leatherman should have a way on their site to customize your tool. Choose a frame and then have a selection of tools to choose from for either side. Keep the Sidekick. If you have to send the Wingman in for warranty you'll need to make it stock again. Plus you'll want to tell them you want your original tool back so they don't just send you back a different one.

I got this idea from a professional knife sharpener. To sharpen the serrated part of the knife, you sharpen only the back side of the blade (the side without the scallops). You leave the front part alone. I have done that on every knife I've owned. Spyderco, Gerber A-F folder, anything with serrations. On a 50/50 blade, sharpen the serrated part on the back, then the regular edge like normal. I've done that using a Lansky sharpener, and a Worksharp. Trust me, it works...

It is a little pricey for just the blade, but on ebay you can find people selling replacement wave and charge blades for around $30-$40. I would recommend going for a charge main blade because it comes in s30v, which is a much better steel than the 420hc that comes on all standard leathermans.

There is a difference between a can opener and a bottle opener. It's nice to have that dedicated, shaped tool for cutting into cans rather than subjecting the blade to the abuse. That aside, thanks for the vid. I was wanting some visual references before swapping out tools on a leatherman. Edit: i've been able to find well-priced, used leathermans on ebay. if you get lucky, you might be able to find replacement parts through that method, especially if you can get some of the 154CM or S30V blades for cheap.

25 year warranty. However, if they are unable to repair it they'll either send it back unrepaired, or replace it with something they currently have of similar value...if you send them a product that has sentimental value there's a box to check so they'll send it back to you if it cannot be repaired or replaced. I sent my Leatherman Wave in last year due to the wire cutters not cutting stranded wire anymore. They not only replaced the plier/wire cutter jaws, they sharpened my knife blades. Only downside was I was without my Leatherman for about a month between shipping to and from and the repair time frame.

Sup, brah. I EDC a Leatherman Rebar in a horizontal molle single mag pouch for a low and compact silhouette on my belt along with a Lumintop 600 lumen flashlight and 4 inch firesteel which slide into both elastic loops on the sides of the pouch. I find uses for most tools on the Rebar. Love it. Little heavy, but the horizontal carry distributes the weight better on the belt and doesnt poke you in the gut. The Rebar model doesnt have the removable fasteners like the other models, but I wish it had the option for it's own belt clip, like a folding knife. IMO, lose the saw and keep the scissors since it's easier to trim fabric, small loose threads on clothing without cutting your fingertips, and clipping out Harbor Freight coupons! Rock on...

I agree that it would be rad if Leatherman would sell individual parts, so you could customize things easier… but saying they “don’t have any sort of warranty to speak of”… C’mon, dude. A 5 second look at their website would’ve told you different. Everything is guaranteed for 25 years! It’s also fairly common for them to fix tools that come in, which are outside of that 25 years. (Without even asking, they’ve done that for me, and a few of my friends. My original SuperTool was 2 years outside of its warranty, and even though everything still worked, it looked like I beat the shit out of it, every day for 27 years. Which is exactly what I’d done. Ya know what they said about that? “Thanks for truly putting this thing through a real-life gauntlet. We wouldn’t put a 25 year warranty on our tools, if we didn’t expect them to live up to it. However, it’s nice to see these come back from time to time, looking well-used, and past the warranty, but otherwise working just fine. It’s encouraging, seeing proof that we kept our word. Thank you for that. “ A week later, I got it back; completely tuned-up, deep cleaned, and polished. Also, I’ve never heard anyone complain of getting treatment from them that was less than kind… I dunno what you’d call that, if not a “great warranty” and “excellent customer service”.

If you swap the Saw, then you've just made a Sidekick tool inside a branded Wingman… 🙄🙄🙄 Basically the only differences between the Sidekick and the Wingman are: - Sidekick has the saw instead of the scissors - Sidekick has the straight blade instead of the combo blade - Sidekick has the serrated knife instead of the box opener - Sidekick has the lanyard holder which the Wingman doesn't have - Sidekick comes with the extra carabiner which the Wingman doesn't come with Otherwise they are the exact same multitool with the exact same frame and sheath, the only other cosmetic difference is the branding, the name "Sidekick" on the exterior beneath the blade instead of "Wingman". So, really, all you needed to do was to swap the scissors for the saw on the Sidekick and you would have saved yourself A LOT of trouble. :)
