This week was full of discoveries! From finding surprisingly fun (and cheap!) paint sticks, playing with new drawing inks, and rediscovering old artworks that I've completely forgotten about! Oh yeah, and my dog is goof!

You've found a treasure trove of old art! It's amazing to me whenever I watch someone be so unsentimental about older work and wanting to rid themselves of it, I'm a hoarder and keep everything. And then I also have my kids' old doodles and comics, I just can't bear to part with things created I guess! But you've got a few gems there ;) Also, those paint sticks! I could feel how fun they were!!! Too bad about that sad pathetic pink, but the others were surprisingly pigmented. I'm shocked that they didn't really smudge, they look like they'd have the texture of lipstick and I assumed they'd be mushy and blendable.

I have come to forgive, if not love, the pink paint stick! It’s so nice to layer with! I think you just made me realize why I love working in sketchbooks so much and not on loose paper, hah! Sketchbooks sit so nice on a shelf when they are done, whereas I only have so much wall space if I were to hang up all those artworks 🫠🫠🫠

@@melissamartinart I understand! I used to craft dioramas before I got into working in sketchbooks, and one of the main reasons I stopped making dioramas was having nowhere to put them.

Cheap Paint Sticks are so fun, I use to have it too but my goddaughter like them so much that I gave them :D p.s.- love the Simon little appearances in your videos!

Lucky goddaughter! I should pick up a bunch of packs for Xmas presents for all my nieces and nephews (and art friends?? Haha!) I’ll keep sneaking little clips of Simon in for ya 🤗💖✨

Found the paint sticks vid! 😅 I have some like these - they are so fun but i havent figured out the best way to use them with other supplies. If you can find a white one, get it! The white covers so amazingly well! Thanks for the vid!

Ooh, I'll have to find a white! I really like using them in combination with a black pencil (the Stabilo Aquarellable works great over them), or just on their own with the lighter more transparent colours as an under layer and then the darker colours on top.

My kids had a pack of those chunky Stabilo colored pencils when they were little, and those things were so satisfying to use. Really rich marks.

Yes, woodys! We just had a very small set, like maybe 6 or 8. Now I'm wondering what ever happened to them.

Thanks!!! Have you tried washing the paint sticks w a brush or a waterbrush? Like what u can do w the neocolors 2 or the woodies? If you can, they might make interesting textures 🥰

I just tried water with them it turned them into watercolour-ish texture 🤗

I love cheap art finds! Also what spray fixative do you use for oil pastels, especially for pieces you intend to sell? For sketchbook stuff I just use hairspray, bc who cares, but I want to sell some stuff soon and I have no clue what type of spray fixative to get that work well with oil pastels.

I use a Sennelier spray fixative. It seems to work well with a couple of coats. Also yes, hairspray for sketchbooks is a great hack, but I often just put a piece of kitchen wax between pages

@@melissamartinart is it the Sennelier D’Artigny fixative? I use paper as well (especially during AHP! when I don't have time to wait for the hairspray to dry), but i'm messy and they fall out very often haha
