Cool vid 👍. I had thought the bushings went "harder" with age. I didn't know better. In the vid you're working on a rear axle right ? I've got kind of a funny noise but mine's up front, when turning the wheel almost all the way. My ball joints (steering, suspension) are less than 10k miles old And my bar links are also pretty recent. I'm guessing it's those bushings. Ought to be them, right ?
@EasyFixShaun
@EasyFixShaun 4 жыл бұрын
The bushing are basically made of a polymer or rubber compound. They are made to be softer than the steel bar that goes through them. So basically the bushings will typically always be the wear component. I would highly suspect them. But to be sure I always shake everything down and try to locate the loose component. 🙂

@EasyFixShaun
@EasyFixShaun 3 жыл бұрын
Ok. That type of noise is most likely sway bar type noise.There are other components that can make similar noise. You will need a complete steering and suspension inspection of every bushing, tie rod, ball joint, strut to find the loose component. 😀
@rondhole
@rondhole 3 жыл бұрын
@@EasyFixShaun it is from the rear, I checked the ball joint, bearing, and any bushing that may crack but everything is tight. It is not steering since no noise in a curvy road. Only when it has some flex left and right not at the same level, which is what sway bar area got the most strain for such movement. The struts and springs are all tight and no noise in any large bumps, fast speed cornering, etc. Only at low speed with a rough road. Higher speed does not change the loudness of the rattle/knocking. There is a slight gap on the bushing when I jack one side up, so I will change the bushing first. It started after my 1000miles road trip in the rocky mountains.
@EasyFixShaun
@EasyFixShaun 3 жыл бұрын
Ok. It’s hard to tell exactly what it could be from here. But starting with the obvious is always a good idea. If there is some play in the bushing it would be an excellent test to replace them and drive it again and see what you have. 😀

good job. i was just wondering if the car needed to be jacked on both sides at the same time to replace these. or can it be done without jacking car up. my accord been clunkjng in the rear for ten years
@EasyFixShaun
@EasyFixShaun Жыл бұрын
The axle being worked on needs to be level. Level can be done in the air by lifting and letting both sides droop evenly. It can also be done on level ground. The sway bar system doesn't hold the weight of the vehicle so it can be serviced on the ground or in the air. If the axle being worked on is not level there will be twist in the bar and pressure can be applied to the parts. Servicing components could be dangerous because of the "spring" like pressure in the bar. Removing parts and installing could be dangerous and also difficult to line back up. As long as everything is level, side to side suspension is equal height, should be good 😃🔧

My 2010 Acura TL looks like these bushings are worn out on the front and I do hear a metallic noise over sharp bumps. Are you sure this was the culprit in your case? Have you got rid of that clunking noise?
@EasyFixShaun
@EasyFixShaun 4 жыл бұрын
It did fix my problem. If your bushings are loose like in the video they are the first thing to start with because they are the cheapest suspension component on the car. Replacement is usually pretty straight forward. There could always be more parts needed. Sometimes the links are needed at the same time. Car repairs aren’t always cut and dry. When in doubt start with the cheapest items to repair. Both links and bushings are common failure points on most suspensions.

Do you have any advice if the bolts are extra stubborn to remove? I drive a rust bucket 😂
@EasyFixShaun
@EasyFixShaun 5 жыл бұрын
Yes! Rust sucks. In Michigan it is just part of life unfortunately. Its a salt problem. We have the worst cars, but we have the best boats! Anyways, three methods for stubborn bolts starting with the least intrusive. First soak in PB Blaster or another penetrating solvent. If that doesn't work heat them up with a map gas torch or something similar. If that doesn't work cut them off or drill them out. Replace them with standard bolts nuts and washers.

@EasyFixShaun
@EasyFixShaun 4 жыл бұрын
Hi C P! Can you send me a video? I can check it out for you. I am not sure what year, make, model, engine, and charges for your repair are. If you can get specific I can see if it is a reasonable repair price. Cars are expensive to fix but bushings are usually relatively very inexpensive in the car repair world. Usually a bushing repair is $100-200 max. That is just a generalization though and not a rule of thumb. Every car is different. Most bushing replacements pay .5-1.0 hours at a shop for reference. You can bounce those numbers off their shop rate. Most bushings cost $20-80 max. Usually the bar will NOT rotate at all in the bushings. So I am not sure what you mean by that. Now, If you have a sway bar link that needs repair, the total bill can be equal to double that of a bushing repair. Maybe you have a link bad?? Does that help? A video speaks a thousands words if you can get one. Thats the best way for me to see if your part is defective or not. Send me a video! 😀

I'm able to use a mechanics lift when changin my oil at 5000 miles . And when the oil is draining , I liberally spray all rubber components / parts underneath with 303 Protectant . As to resist them drying out and cracking . And some people soak rubber components / parts overnight in it , wipe off and install .

@@EasyFixShaun Yes , it deflects the UV rays of the sun . I periodically spray the outside tire walls and just let it soak in . Anything rubber or plastic it will protect . I power wash my engine compartment around every six months and let dry . And then liberally spray it all over the engine compartment and let it soak in . Again , to resist the heat of the egine on the rubber and plastic parts , keeps them new looking . As my intake valve cover is plastic . What causes this noise
@EasyFixShaun
@EasyFixShaun 4 жыл бұрын
When the rubber bushings that hold the bar to the frame get worn and loose there is a gap between the bushing and the sway bar. The bar basically rattles around in the bushing or bushings. There are always two bushings. There is a lot of force from being attached to the suspension on the ends where the end links are. When any of the sway bar components become worn and loose the noise is amplified because the sway bar is attached to the frame by the bushings. It can be so loud that it sounds like something is falling off the car!

Usually they come in pairs when you buy them. Usually the fronts are different from the rears. I would look up the aftermarket parts you need based on the year, make, model, and engine that you have. When looking them up at the dealership the vin number is usually the best way so you will want to have that handy. On bushings usually any brand will work fine. Since they are usually dirt cheap parts in general I don't hesitate to use OEM parts from the dealers. They are usually very similar in price and the quality is always better. With nissans, parts are generally harder to find so that may be your only option. Good luck! 😃

You should be able to do a quick wiggle test on bushings and links while on the ground on a level surface. If you find any play, replacement of the loose parts is needed. For best inspection results also lift the wheels off the ground safely, shake and inspect all other steering and suspension components for excessive play. Same thing, all loose components must be replaced. This should be done for front and rear. I hope that helps 😃🔧

Hey Shaun, Im a new subscriber to your channel. A little background of my vehicle, I was side swiped on my my rear bumper panel and the wheelbearing was also out, it started to make a loud noise. Car was dropped off to get it fixed, a new bearing installed and now the noise disappear. However, 3 weeks into driving the vehicle again, I started to hear noise from my passenger side, started making a noise on every bump it encounters... my question is do you think 10 years powertrain warranty will replace bad struts, bushing, sway bar links, shock absorbers or any other things that causes it to make a noise? Also got this brand new 2023 kia soul last year and the car only has less than 15k miles within 2 years of ownership. Is there any way I can send you a quick video to determine why causing the passenger side suspension to make noise it makes everytime I go over a small bump or big ones?? Hey man! No problem, post a youtube video on your channel and let me know when you did and I will gladly check it out. The warranty question should go to the dealer. Depends on your warranty length and what is covered. If it's under warranty those components would be covered most likely. In the mean time also check out my other superior sway bar link video and try the hand shake test on links and bushings. The shake and sway test also helps point towards links and bushings if you can't get them to make noise by hand. 😃 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ZrlofaWWxNDSZps.html

The problem with using grease on the bushings it's that because of it's "jelly glue" nature it will trap all kinds of dirt and sand in it, making the bushing go out prematurely. Maybe a tiny tiny dab of grease where it meets the sway bar wouldn't hurt, but make it Lithium grease. By the way, great video!

Ok. I wonder if the bushing size is incorrect?? Sometimes certain manufacturers put different size bars on the same car based on engine size or equipment. For instance some will have a 17mm a 20mm and a 22mm bushing that fits the same car dependent on the bar it is equipped with. The sway bar and sway bar bushing need to match. Ok sounds like you have replaced a lot of parts. Did you have an alignment done after the strut replacement? Is your air pressure correct in the tires. Those can be major factors. If those things have been checked and are good the next thing I would check for is a broken or loose part. A broken sway bar link will cause a lot of instability.

Ok. You are on the right path. You’ve eliminated most causes. I would do the tires next and hold off on the links unless they are loose. You would be amazing at how nice a car will ride with new tires. If you modify the sidewall to a thinner side wall. The ride will significantly be harsher. If you want butter smooth get a stock sidewall if you can. I think either of those brands work just fine. Let me know how it goes😃

Hard to say. But you may have another issue. If the links are tight and the bushings are tight after your repair I would look for other things. Usually the links and bushings are either good or bad. So if they are tight I would look at other suspension components like maybe struts. When all else fails start at square one and recheck everything for looseness in the steering and suspension. Sometimes its easy to accidentally miss something. Stick with it you are on the right track. Sounds like maybe you will just have an extra step to do, to get it repaired.

I have changed sway bar link (leak), outer tie rod (leak) but noise still there. I checked ball joint , control arm and strut there is no leak and it seems fine. I think it may be the bushing but it looks ok and no play or loose but it has 190k on it and almost 13 years. Th e clunk noise only when car slow down or slow start up or turning. Other than that, car runs ok. No noise. I think it may be the sway bar bushing. Thanks for the video.
@EasyFixShaun
@EasyFixShaun Жыл бұрын
No problem! The clunk from sway bar bushings is very much like a loose link, except bushings have a slightly noticeable rubbery clunk. Sway links sound more like a metal clunk. It is a very subtle difference, but it is there if you have a good ear. Any part of the sway bar system that is loose causes an amplified noise. That is because the parts are hooked directly to the body/subframe/or frame of the vehicle. They sound louder than you would think they could ever be for such little clunking movement in the parts. Through process of elimination is nothing else is loose and you have higher mileage, and you can not pinpoint the cause, bushings is a great guess. Plus they are one of the cheapest repairs on the car. I see a mysterious clunks from bushings once in a while like you describe. Probably worth a shot if you can not pinpoint the problem and everything else looks ok 😃🔧

Sounds like a steering or suspension problem most likely. I would check all components. Your description is really good though. I would check the upper and lower ball joints. That would be the most likely cause from what you describe. You could have someone jounce test the car in park to get some suspension movement and squeaking and then try to track down the noise. Usually a squeak like that can be felt in the ball joint just by touching the control arm that it is mounted in, or the ball joint it self. If you find that is the case you can further isolate the problem by piercing the boot and adding grease. Usually the noise will go away. Ball joint would need replacement 😃🔧

@@EasyFixShaun No I don't have loss of power. Just the noise.

Sorry. If the clunk sound is heard when applying power straight or a clunk is heard in a turn while applying power, it is usually a Cv- joint on one of the shafts. If you hear the noise when turning all the time even when coasting I am more likely to think a suspension or steering component. If you can't really tell try eliminating things as a good approach to pinpointing the culprit. Do you know how to lift and support the Acadia and do a shake down test? You could do that and check for loose steering/suspension components. Then check your sway bar links and bushings. If everything is tight you could then start looking at drivetrain components like the cv-axles.

Whenever i pass a big whole or deep puddle i feel like a clunk juston my side is it normal for a 2019 GMC 3 inch suspension beaaly have2 months whit the lift

Hi Samuel. It could be anything loose under there with the lift kit. Under normal circumstances the bushings and links can be highly suspect parts. They fail a lot. But you should always do a shake down test of your suspension to try to pinpoint a loose part. Sometimes it jumps out at you. Do you know how to do that?

I wish I could give you my contact info man, ...but its the internet so that's a hard no. But I can try to walk you through it here. Or you could have it done at a shop and pay the diagnostic fee. Or...My next video coming out this week shows how to do it pretty well. It is a wheel bearing video but I shows it pretty clearly. Or you can follow this old video I showed how to do it here. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jNBpoqd5z5mpmn0.html Basically between this video and the sway bar video you have all the basic tests to expose a loose steering or suspension or bearings component. 😀

If you use anti-lock grease (anti seize), it will not dry and will not sound Because this type of grease does not penetrate water and soil and does not dry and does not clean over time
@EasyFixShaun
@EasyFixShaun 3 жыл бұрын
No grease should be used. Install it dry. That is how the manufacturer designed it and installs them when new. I tried greasing a couple times. Once the grease drys out the most most horrific squeek noise started and I had to replace the bushings again.

You should try it and see how it works out long term. I would never recommend it under any circumstances on the rubber/plastic sway bar bushings. Bushings are the wear component and designed to wear. If you lubricate them you will have noise and you will have to replace them again to fix that new noise.

Grazie intanto ti seguo 😊

Could work just fine as long as the straps and bolts fitment is good. Usually the manufactures don't change bar size by just 1mm, so you probably have the correct parts. Usually if two optional bar sizes are available on a vehicle the change in size is 3-5mm difference or more 😀😀

If the inside of the slotted liner is not greased, the anti-roll bar will get stuck and will not transfer power to the other side of the car.

Ya not the best idea. But I do it all the time. I have shattered quite a few impact and non impact sockets. The one in the video is probably 25 years old. It is from my original craftsman socket set when I was a kid. Made in the USA. They are still stronger than chinesium made replacement sockets I have recently purchased.
