When I did my GMQ before I sold it a few years back, I just removed the sway bar brackets and lowered the bar while still attached to the end links. removed old bushings by cutting them with a razor knife. and installed new ones with slit, over the bar. and then I proceeded to replace the end links. When I did my Town Car. I had to remove the sway bar completely, because I bought the Motorcraft bushings and had to be slid in. I just wiped down the bar and sprayed it with some silicone to help the new bushings slide into place. Since we're on the subject of Sway Bars. the best mod I did to my GMQ, when I had it, apart from the dual exhaust that I got off a 2011 police interceptor. was getting the front and rear sway bars off of the same car. It made the boat handle like if it was on rails without compromising the ride quality since I didn't mess around with shocks or the springs at the time. it just made the car corner flatter. all I have to say is oof! from 15mm to 17mm in the rear and 28mm to 29mm in the front. world of difference and under 100$ dollars.

Thanks for sharing, those are awesome tips! That was my whole idea in the beginning was to grab some p71 sway bars. But then I didn’t come across any and out it on the back burner and forgot. I will look for some and swap mine out! Thanks I appreciate it.

Man, I must have it pretty bad then. My 2007 GMQ GS rolled out of STAP with no rear sway bar and a 26.5mm front sway bar, and that's what it has to this day. Plan on upgrading the bars once I can find some.

Adtr Performance sells them but they are around $200 bucks! I hear nothing but good things about them! I’m not sure I can justify $200. I’ll keep my eyes peeled for p71 or used one or something

@@LoveWhatYouDrive The ADTR bars are a lot bigger than the P71 bars and imo too thick, they seem to cause poor traction over rough surfaces. The P71 bars are the best bet I think.

I agree 💯 I don’t race my Mercury nor it does autocross so all the extra performance parts is not needed for my application.

You help me out big time by not removing the whole sway bar. Already have new end links. I just inspected the rubber bushing and regrease it. And put the bracket back on. Once I hear a lot of clunking then I'll change them. Thanks for showing this thumbs up.

Pro tip, cover the end of the new sway bar link with plastic dip the drush on kind and it will keep it from rusting on. Replacement in the future will be easier.

Good video. One thing to note, your sway bar end links look to have been replaced before, none of the suspension components on these had grease fittings from the factory. The factory end links also wouldn't have had that spot to hold it with a wrench while loosening the nut, rather they have an opening for an allen key at the end of the stud. Utilizing this to hold the end link still while turning the nut requires removal of the brake rotor.

Ye that’s what I figured. I don’t think they used moog products from the factory as well. From what I understand and heard many times is that the suspension and end link parts go pretty frequently on the panthers! Thanks for chiming in!

I just finished replacing the sway bar end links and the sway bar bushing and my 2007 Lincoln Town Car is still making a squeaky sound. I recently replaced the brakes, the upper and lower control arms, the struts, and the rear shocks. What can it possibly be?
@LoveWhatYouDrive
@LoveWhatYouDrive 4 ай бұрын
Thanks for stopping by! Did you preload the control arms and suspension components before making the final tightening? Control arm bushings need to be preloaded with weight if the car or similar weight before you tighten all the way or to spec. Maybe the seating of the spring in the rubber cups if the springs (not sure the proper name) but where the springs sit in the shock towers of the body, maybe the rubber is pinched or seated improper. Maybe they need to be broken in. Those would be my best guesses to why it still makes noise. Let me know if any of that helped. Or else we can put up your question on the community tab of the channel and have people chime in on what it could be! Good luck! I’ll be waiting for your answer!

@@LoveWhatYouDrive ok it has been 3 months and you can still hear a squeaky noise when going through the uneven pavement, I tried greasing up the hood latch, and the hydraulic component on the hood with no luck. It's driving me insane! I recently took my town car to a shop this past Saturday and the mechanic suggested greasing up the upper and bottom part of the sway bar end links, let's see how that goes. My next project is replacing the rear brakes and rotors just waiting for the parts to come in a few days.

My 01 sway bar is very similar, what does the swaybar and those parts even do? 🤔
@LoveWhatYouDrive
@LoveWhatYouDrive Жыл бұрын
Thanks for stopping by! Sway bar is in charge of reducing the body roll on a vehicle, when you turn the wheel the body of the car will go lean or “roll” to the Opposite side. The bar acts like a spring to control that body roll. The thicker the sway bar the more resistance there is and the less of a body roll or swaying your car will have. It stiffens the ride and reduces body roll on turns!
