Your Path to United Airlines: bit.ly/UALPilotApplication ... I absolutely love flying the Boeing 767, so I wanted to give you the chance to dive behind the scenes with me inside and outside of this legendary jet. We'll walk around the outside of the airplane and take a look inside the flight deck and cabin. With 37 767-300s and 16 767-400s in 2022, United has one of the largest fleets of 767s in the world, flying as short as Chicago to Washington DC or as long as Munich to Houston. For over 40 years, the 767 has played an extremely important role for United, connecting major cities and even flying seasonal destinations not found at any other airlines... Oh, by the way - Did you know the 767 was originally designed with a 3rd engine? It's time to jump inside this iconic jet.
This video was filmed with approval from United Airlines.

B767 is one of the best job acconplishment of my life. I worked during the production of the first 60 airplanes of the 767 between 1981 - 1984 .My title was (Mechanical Electrical Avionics Functional Test) My position allowed me to install and to functionally make sure every electrical electronics hydraulics and mechanical are working per directive drawings. Most of my work was in the flight deck, the Avionic bay, the Wheelwell, and the engine pillons. My qualifications at the time were after being an Avionics ElectroMechanic Tech for the Air Force C130, C141, and C5 cargo airplanes. My position at the final assembly during the manufacturing process was quite fun. It was a job that I was very proud to be able to do for my country. I would have done it for free if I had to. It was such joy to just being able to actually see the entire process being put together so successfully at the final assembly of the factory. The first 10 airplanes were designed for 3 pilots, then we had to go back and retrofit them for 2 pilots at the flight deck, which was very challenging. We managed to accomplish it all successfully in a timely manner. These are memories that I will always cherish for being at the center of it. Yes, we did take pride working together at Boeing. United and AllNippon were the lunching airlines of the 767. In fact, I had some opportunities to go help out on the 757 program to help them get on the same track as of the 767. Both were a new innovative airplanes. Long live the 767.

I think that when it comes to wide body aircraft in the aviation industry, planes like the 767 are kind of left out and not a lot of people care about or even talk about. For example, many aviation care + talk much more about the more “popular” aircraft like the 777,787,a330,a350, etc, than planes like the 767. It’s probably a reason why I think the 767 is awesome!

I spent the last 9 years of my career flying these, mainly for the places we went - the 777 had far fewer desirable destinations in that era at my airline. Interesting points about the center systems, although it may be that they would have been included anyway, since the A-300-600 also had three hydraulic systems and I know for certain that there never was any plan for a 3 engine version of that airplane (it was designed, as a twin, to an AA specification that had been put forward for the jet that became the DC-10 - AA always wanted fewer engines). As a bid status, it was arguably the best at the airline, since it encompassed both wide and narrow body, short and long hauls (or at least as long as I was prepared to tolerate!), international and domestic. I'm glad I had the opportunity to fly it and the 757. Too bad we retired all of them a few years back.

I also wanted to give you a quick update on where I'm at with my aviation career. On November 07, 2022, I was hired as a Flight Instructor at Arizona Aero-Tech / Double Eagle Aviation, Ryan Airfield (KRYN), Tucson, AZ. To date, I've had ten (10) students, 5 full-time (All Private Pilot) and 5 temporary (1 × Private Pilot, 3 × Instrument Rating, 1 × Commercial Pilot), accumulating 486.9 total flight hours, 381.9 hours PIC, 27.5 hours of simulator dual given and 24.2 hours of airborne dual given. Finally, I now have one passed checkride under my belt (Instrument recheck). Nine more to go towards Gold Seal status! I hope this message finds you and your family well. Take care Swayne and I look forward to flying with you as a pilot for United Airlines!!!!!

One time I was flying UAL from LAX to DEN and was listening to channel 9 while still on the tarmac at LAX. There was this huge argument between ATC LAX and a few of the pilots about departure order as there was some tarmac construction which caused some traffic issues. We were second in line and our pilot happily offered our spot as we were just going to Denver which is very routine but ATC was like, No Denver, you are second. I've also heard of some other arguments between pilots on other flights on channel 9 and was surprised at how subjective but not unprofessional the communications could become.

Really great video, Swayne. Your explanations are really informative and clear. When you mentioned 757, I remember coming back from USVI to New York (in 1995), piloted by Capt. Bonnie Tiburzi. Continued success.

Awesome video, it’s been fun watching your journey over the last 6 years. I always had a picture of a United 747 in the front cover of all my school books growing up to inspire me.

I was always amazed that the 75 and 76 have the same type certificate! A few years ago, I got to do a tour of Delta Airlines' facilities at DTW, and during the tour they let us on both a 757 and 767. It was super cool seeing how similar the flight deck layouts of both airplanes are!

Hi Swayne..I just discovered your channel. The United Livery caught my attention as I’m a QCL on our Airbus fleet. I’ve never flown Boeings other than plumbing the 727 my first year at UAL. I thoroughly enjoyed this tour of the 767 and learned a lot. I will continue to follow your channel and career and look forward to what comes next. Thanks for the professional production and so glad you’re out there putting a good face on our team. This really is a great place to work!

I really enjoy your videos Swayne. It has truly been an amazing journey watching you flying around in Cessna's at UND to now 767's, Congrats!!! My favorite is the 767-400! I was there when Continental took delivery, and I had the opportunity to maintain them. It really is a great aircraft!!

I’m a licensed mechanic; I work on 767s at my company. Although ours are converted freighters flown by Amazon, and they’re equipped with GE engines, which I vastly prefer to the PW engines.

Hi Swayne - what a great tour. Your camera man kept up with you on the tour. The facts you presented was well explained. I was on a 767 from Boston to LA and the captain gave me a quick look in tour as the plan was deplaning, Major changes since 1978. I have noted to best seats to ask for. Very proud of your accomplishments keep up your professional work. Looking forward to your next video. dwb
