Sweden's 'exceptional' 7,000-year-old burial comes to life - BBC REEL

In the early 1980s, one unusual Mesolithic grave discovered in Sweden sparked a lot of excitement.
‘Burial XXII’ was found along with 87 other graves at a site in Skateholm, on the southern coast. What stood out to archaeologists was that the inhabitant of this particular grave was buried sitting up, cross-legged, and surrounded by hundreds of animal bones and teeth. Now the ’seated woman’ or ‘shaman’ as some call her, has been expertly recreated for a new exhibit.

Have there been "blinded" experiments with facial reconstruction on sculls of recently decreased persons for whom we have photos and films, or even face masks? This would help to determine the accuracy of reconstructions of stone age people.

Reconstructions of skeletons found have been used to locate missing people, and they have been similar enough to be recognised by people who knew the missing person. Comparing the reconstruction with photos of the missing person shows that the more experienced the artist, the greater the resemblance. I watched a documentary on KZfaq about sculptors joining a course run by an experienced reconstructer to discover the identity of skeletons found, and find missing persons. Maybe in Canada? I am sorry I can't remember the name of it!

Quoted from this video from around 1:35 to around 1:52 "she" says... "...computers as we know them have only been around for about 1% of that time, but in the blink of an eye they are now not only defining what our future will look like, but giving us incredible glimpses of our past straight from the wildest dreams of historians from only a decade or two ago." Is this not startling to anybody else? Why are we allowing computers to tell us what our future is going to be, or even what our history is? Trumping all documents, religions, traditions, and stories told since beginnings of time to tell us how to believe, think, and live? This is absurd. This same technology and science that has caused Covid to be as extreme as it is if not actually creating it. The same that led Hitler to perform extreme atrocities. Led doctors to bleed their patients to death. Really? Is this really where people today want to place their faith? It's not only your own funeral, but also the funeral of the world. Terminator prophecy has indeed been fulfilled. The world taken over by machines. Thank God for other prophecies yet to come that will save us from this mess. This is getting really bad.

@chrisball3778

It's definitely possible. The theory is that lighter skin only evolved in European peoples after they switched to a primarily agricultural lifestyle in the Neolithic, as they no longer got enough vitamin D from their diet and having lower melanin levels allowed them to synthesise more of it from the limited sunlight at northern latitudes. There are apparently some valid criticisms of the theory, but the idea really, really upsets racists and a lot of the people who object to it are just bigoted.

No. Scandinavian HGs were light skinned, they can't fudge the data with that one and propagandise it. They were a mix of Western HGs and Eastern HGs. EHGs were light skinned, too. With how much of a crap job they did with Western Hunter-Gatherers trying to get "black" people in Britain as the BBC does, the debate on that one will continue for some time when the answer is obvious. The closest living relatives of WHGs is Modern Europeans. WHGs may have been a shade or two darker, perhaps tan better, but no more, they had many alleles for light skin seen in Eurasians, missing the 2 from other populations in Europe would not make them dark, and certainly not "black"(Black skin is caused by variants of the MFSD12 gene which they would have known before the study, which have never been found in Ancestral European populations,). According to the computer program that determined half of WHGs were Black, half of Modern North East Asians should be Black too, but they are objectively not and can even be *very* light. By the by, skin pigmentation is polygenetic and much harder to pin down than eyes and hair, so it's open to a lot of controversy.

Lol no. You even can go back to Palaeolithic Europe and see faces you might know irl. With how high WHG and EHG DNA is in Scandinavia still after the Neolithic, it's not remotely impossible to see someone phenotypically similar to SHGs. Heck, even the AHGs(Farmers) from the Near East had a high affinity with other European Hunter-Gatherers, largely as their relatives were also the WHGs. The phenotypes of West Eurasia developed quickly and then settled somewhat to an average look.

@@JonFrumTheFirst I'm talking about overall European Phenotyping. Europeans look European. There is some regional variation, but you're looking at much the same features since at least the Mesolithic.

@@infini_ryu9461 You say Europeans look European because you're starting out with all Europeans in a box - it's called begging the question.
