Sakkarai Pongal is one of the common and popular sweet in Tamil Nadu and South India. We make this for many festivals and auspicious days for an offering to god (naivedhyam). There are different variations being followed in making of the Sakkarai pongal based on the family tradition, customs, taste and regions. One of the most common method in our tradition and in our home is given in this video

INGREDIENTS
1 cup Raw Rice 1 cup = 250 ml
¼ cup Moong dal
2.5 cups Grated Jaggery
¼ tsp Cardamom Powder
1 tbsp Cashews
1 pinch Pachai Karpooram Optional
1 tbsp Raisins Optional
5 tbsp Ghee (Clarified butter)
4½ cups Water
½ cup Milk (optional)

Akka when you add milk with sakara pongal திரிஞ்சு போன்ன மாதிரி ஆகுது. என்ன எய்ய

when you add milk make sure the flame is very very low so it gets mixed up with rice well without curdling. don't bring the pongal to boil after adding milk.
