Hi, venktesh bhat sir Me and my mom are big fans of you. My mom passed away 2yrs ago. I started learning cooking it soon after her demise. From dad's Lil princess To cook of the house you virtually taught me a lot sir. This is the first pongal for us after her demise. Now after watching this video I've learnt yet another important dish. I feel that "Thank you" is a very short phrase to describe my emotions but still I ought to say " Thank you" sir. Mine was just a survival cooking and you always manifest the culinary science inside the heart of every person who did not know Abc of cooking. Happy Mahara Sankarandhi sir. It's most commonly called as sakarai pongal And not vellam pongal

I think earlier vellam (or karuppatti) was used for sarkarai (sweet) taste. Sarkarai means sweet. Only then sugar which we call sarkarai now came into picture. May be that’s the reason. That was just a guess. 🙂

Hi sir Pongal nal vazhthukal... I tried this receipe today without using pressure cooker and used same measurements just adding one glass of water alone extra as I was following tradition in paanai 😁 and it came out really well 👍 everyone appreciated 🙏
