The scientists caused the hybrids, but the Last Men wanna cover that up so the public (or what's left of them) doesn't know about the true reason hybrids existed. I think that Season 2 should focus more on Aimee, taking revenge on the Last Men for capturing the hybrids.

It is tonally a bit wierd - there's that cute rat boy hybrid that wouldn't look out of place in a pre-school show, and then at other points people are burned alive. Also, the narrative is a little contrived and there are quite a lot of interesting characters who are only briefly introduced. But I really liked it - it's beautifully filmed, well acted and there are elements of pathos that make the story emotionally involving.

Knowing that it was supposed to be a "family-friendly" adaptation, I was surprised how dark it went at times. It generally remains tonally PG but then something super fucked up will happen and I just know there's some kids getting traumatized out there.

It was a strange ending. We know that sweet tooth caretakers weren't his parents and he was made in a lab. But the season finale is his "mom" on the other end of the phone. There is no reason for him to contact her ever again unless he wants answers that dont progress the story.

Having read the comics first, I was initially disappointed that it wouldn't be diving into some of the elements that really gripped me while reading, but it totally roped me in, and no matter how basic the narrator commentary was and how unsettling the Bobby puppet was (a travesty, as he's an absolute delight in the book) I really loved it as a whole. I just advise treating the two works as almost completely separate because they both have their own unique merits, and if you're an adaptation purist about it, you'll get too caught up in all the minor detail changes.

this show definitely wasn't perfect and of course the premise was not that original (but almost everything nowadays takes inspiration from other things, let alone this being a comic book adaptation) but overall I really liked it and I think it's one of Netflix's best shows right now. I dunno how things will turn out with the WB ownership though

I dont know if anyone has mentioned this already, but most fo the hybrid effects were actual practical effects and not CGI, I at first thought it was just bad CGI, until I was told it was practical. The Hybrid Bobby, is a puppet, controlled by a puppeteer. Gus' ears are electric controlled also by a puppeteer with a remote controller. Most of the effects are practical, which might seem weird looking to a modern viewer so used to everything being CGI.
