It might have to do with the fact that they're so spontaneous and somewhat random, which makes them "unique"/"original," this "harder to prepare for" (people like novel insults in the first place and these "seem like novel insults" - they're definitely novel even if there's no intentional agency to them)

We all know Anita's a beautiful and incredible person, but she's also got some beautiful and incredible friends. One thing that makes me feel emotional about them is the fact that they have done more than just add to Anita's life, but also have given her the opportunity to do the things she wanted to do and make them such a memorable and positive experience. It would be really nice to have more Anitas, but let's not discard her friends. We could do with more of them as well.

Honestly, Anita has helped me seriously come to terms with accepting my TS and tics that I've been living with since I was about nineish. I was professionally diagnosed with TS two years ago just after I turned 21, and it's been a journey in the last couple years with research and learning about my/the disorder. I used to be really reserved, shy, and beyond self conscious about the tics, leading me to focus so hard on tic suppression that I'd be so physically and mentally exhausted almost all the time. But since I came across this channel late 2018, I've gotten a lot more comfortable with myself. I've begun suppressing less (if at all), and have been much happier because of this channel! This'll probably get lost, but from the bottom of my heart, thank you for helping me accept my tics and twitches and be happy with what I have. 🤗

Just getting on the Anita bandwagan. 3 weeks and I've been able to acceptance about my own tics loads more than before. I know this is a really old comment but no one ever talks about suppression. I'm a late bloomer and while it looks like my tics are getting worse it's actually me suppressing less. When you suppress less overall do you find it harder to suppress when you really need to? I'm afraid to let it out too much. Anyways thanks for the comment. It's nice to know I'm not alone.

I don't think people are gonna be getting WWII 'flashbacks' over someone saying something is their favourite subject. There aren't many left alive who can even have flashbacks in the first place, and out of everything that would trigger some past trauma, I doubt it would be just shouting in German, especially from a woman. @@nikkob1252 To be fair, I have heard a fair few Hitler speeches (I do WWII stuff as a hobby, promise) and I don't think he's EVER said 'mein lieblings...' anything. He has used 'liebe' before, as in, love, so it's not like he doesn't talk about positive wholesome things. I think it might be a more recent feature of the German language since I don't recall seeing it in any older literature or memoirs etc. Could be wrong though. I think calling people 'lieblings' was used back then to mean like 'my darlings', the kinda way a mother might refer to her children? But I'm not sure when it adapted. The irony, though, is that we become so empathic precisely because we have lived very difficult lives (often with quite a lot of abuse, the empathy is developed as a defense strategy to allow victims to better read people and anticipate danger so that we may try to mitigate, or even escape, the danger through advance prediction). In her case, presumably from her Tourette’s and other people’s reactions to it. For myself, due to severe abuse and isolation in my childhood years. But most anytime you see a person with extreme empathy there is a very high likelihood they have lived through a very traumatic childhood. Anita is, indeed, a very special person, I just wish there were a lot less pain behind that specialness as none of us would ever wish such upon someone with so sweet a soul.

I also have Tourettes, but only physical tics since I was like 8 now I'm 16 and it's exhausting af. I have one tic with my neck that's so annoying it feels I've been headbanging all day. Also have the common eyes tic and shoulders. Welp at least I'm not the only in my area that has it. One of my friends also has a lot of tics. So it's funny when we're together just walking. We just pass our tics to each other lmao.

Yeah, like 90% of my tics are motor tics (movement tics). But thankfully my vocal tics only make me say things very rarely. It’s usually just random noises, like squeaking and barking like a dog and stuff. It’s still really embarrassing in public by myself though. Especially public transport.

It always blows my mind when people haven't heard of tourette's. Everyone at my elementary school back in the day even knew what it was. Luckily we did because we ended up having a student with tourette's transfer in and everyone already knew he couldn't control his shouting in class and his random turning around and cussing you out. Probably made it easier for him to deal with, he ended up being a very popular dude.

I know your comment is 4 years old, but this is still weirdly common. I have Tourette's and at this point I basically have a script memorized explaining what it is and what it means, coz often in public either people will ask if I'm alright or I'll tic at them and have to explain why - I'd say about 1/3 to 1/4 of the people I meet don't know what it is before I tell them lmao
