I have Tourette's with coprolalia and I don't know about you but when I suppress a vocal tic I can hear it in my head, as if it were a mental tic? And then I start stuttering cause it's distracting. The other day I let out a beautiful "I have a chicken apocalypse in my ass". I think Tourette's is the most beautiful poet of all.
@livedandletdie

Stuttering is the only verbal reflex problem I have, which means I'm pretty happy to not have any verbal tics, although I have constant muscle fatigue and pain in my back, shoulders and arms due to some horrendously painful motor tics. Which of course had to trigger while watching this god damn clip.

@@plaguin5460 It depends for me. Sometimes I'll know EXACTLY which tic is going to happen. Sometimes I know what SORT of tic it will be (eg, it will involve moving my arm but I don't know which arm tic it is, or I know it's going to be a word but idk which word). Sometimes I know if it's going to be motor or vocal, sometimes I just know I'm going to tic but don't know what, and sometimes it comes out of nowhere with no warning.

One of my younger brothers was recently diagnosed with Tourette’s. He’s nearly 10, and his ticks are mostly just physical/motor ticks, like crackling his knuckles, tilting his head aggressively to each shoulder, hard winking, clapping and yelling. He also has Autism and ADD so, it’s been interesting learning more about it and how it interacts with his already diagnosed things. Your videos are very helpful and interesting, and you are so sweet

I should probably research it instead of asking on youtube but I have a kind of "breathing tick" that comes and goes randomly (randomly as in, it can be years before it comes back to an extreme state). I make short inhale/exhale burst ticks and sometimes they can be uncontrollable. Makes it hard to breathe but I never was fully unable to breathe from them yet. It just confuses me because right now I don't have them, but I am certain after a few months they will come back weak or strong. My question is, is it actually a "tick"? Or is it something completely different? I don't expect an answer but i do find it interesting.

I have tourette's as well, and I can confirm what Andrew said. Tourette's is, at a very basic level, a coping mechanism for your brain when it craves more stimulation. If you're focused on something (like playing an instrument) or purposefully unfocused (sleep or meditation), we don't tic practically at all. Stress and anxiety do worsen it though. If I'm already losing sleep over that, the tics will make it worse. I've also noticed that thinking about my tics or Tourette's in general makes it worse. Watching this video actually made my tics more prominent.
@floo0o0
@floo0o0 5 жыл бұрын
@Andrew Tanilon maybe that's in some form usable? Like if it was possible to keep the part of the brain which is causing the ticks to in an artificial 'sleeping' or 'focussed' state, maybe it could be helpful.
@floo0o0
@floo0o0 5 жыл бұрын
@Andrew Tanilon I was aware of especially marijuana having a positive effect, but I meant in a permanent or somehow changable way? To keep the brain in a state where it could lower the severity of the tics, but not the entire body in a sleepy state. But as you described it I'm afraid that's hardly possible.
@taiefmiah
@taiefmiah 5 жыл бұрын
When you are properly asleep you don't control any of your skeletal muscle. As you cycle in and out like everyone does you will get some back, but often your prefrontal cortex takes long enough to activate that you are back asleep before it could activate. So you'd be unaware of what you did then. Other than those seconds, it shouldn't affect motor function. You also don't have voluntary control of your lungs at that point. The automatic mechanisms have full control.

It's interesting that one of the tics sounded like a part of you was sighing out in joyful release of freedom. Further study question. What if when you let go you run with it? As in you intentionally let out a barrage of words and movements that your tics would normally present, and when a natural tic takes over you run with it. Eg. When you feel a "fuck" you make it your intention to say it on purpose?

I love the way you approach your experience objectively, trying to evaluate why you're getting physical symptoms when holding back the tics. You're always an entertaining person to watch, but it's great to learn and understand Tourette's better too. When you say you tic less when you're very focused, it throws me back to playing Starcraft. I used to forget to blink while playing 1v1s because I was so intensely focused. After a match I'd blink and immediately there's tears running down my face and my eyes hurt and I'm wasn't sure why haha. Anyways, it makes me wonder if experiencing tics to someone with Tourette's is like blinking to someone without. Like it happens all the time, and you can be aware of it if necessary, but you're usually not noticing them?

I’ve worked in neuro rehab both with kids and adults, but never with anyone who has ts. This experiment was something I could see being a part of a therapy session, so you can go through the feelings and sensations together and get support if you need it. It looks like you’re a level headed young lady who can do these sorts of things independently, and all the power to you for it. This was very enlightening and if I ever work with anyone who has ts I’ll be sure to never try to restrict their tics consciously or unconsciously, unless it’s for a specific exercise or something similar. An interesting recommendation from the tubes algorithm anyways. As far as the physiology side goes, I’m not an expert on TS by any means but in general the nervous system has mechanisms to excite the system and to calm down the system. I’d imagine trying to hold back like this forces the brain to excite the system, and then it enters the fight-or-flight state even without any external threat. This all happens in the background and the syndrome itself produces these tics, it’s just the stress of holding back that’s causing some of the physical sensations. If we measure a hundred people off the street, it’s not likely that we can find anyone who would report stress reactions quite like the ones you mentioned, the feelings at the tip of the fingers and the heat moving around. If I had to guess, I’d go with them being regular reactions for you that have been normalized through years of motor tics, and that’s why they appear first in a stressful situation like this. A bit like repetition teaching your brain to work in a certain way. It doesn’t really matter what the tic exactly is, since everyone growing up in a similar situation will just learn their own tics and own ways to regulate and handle the stress.

I started going to the bathroom when I built up my tics long enough to where I couldn't suppress them anymore. But then my manager talked to me about why I was going to the bathroom so much. So now I just tic at work and don't worry about it. Anyway, just thought I'd share that. Thanks for the posts. They make me feel less alone, but also trigger my tics. Lol. Love the channel.

When I suppress my motor tics, I just start vibrating. Literally just shaking. It looks weirder than my actual tics, so I don’t do it much lmao

I always get extreme pain watching her videos, she has very interesting tics, that have a weirdly sexual undertone, but my motor tics, I'm 100% sure are hellbent on contorting my body so much that I'll turn inside out one day. I have major back and neck pains due to it. And sure as heck when Anita's tics started to act up, mine had to just do the same.
