I lived in Sarasota/Bradenton or seven years and absolutely loved it. The heat and humidity didn't bother me actually even had true Floridians ask me how I tolerated the heat so easily but am lucky I guess in some ways because I had to leave the State because of work but now I am older and very sick actually am terminally ill the way I see it God got me out before my illness took over because I can't take the heat anymore especially the humidity interferes with what lung function I do have left. I love this channel you are just awesome I have learned so much yet thought I already knew lots. I sure do appreciate your hard work and have sent several people to your channel. @Sweet Project Cars Just did another six deep cycle 6v that where dead (.5v) and they are now bubbling like a soda :) on the original cart charger. You truly have something here that not a lot of people know and i learned first hand. i got both of the welders and like you said on the video i used the red on my car battery that used to be 1.4 v and now is at 12.6v with plenty of cranking power and the smaller welder on a utility cart that has 6 6v deep cycle 225 ah batteries that where not charging when i would plug the charger. i noticed after running the shock treatment for only 2 min at 22 on the small welder the charger was able to recognize them and charge them again. After the shock treatment i connected everything back in the Cart and they registered and started charging then a couple min later the charger was showing that they where fully charged, i took it out for a spin and then a minute in and it died on me so i plugged it in for charge again and ones it was showing fully charged i took it out again and this time it run for about 15 min, now i plugged it again and its been charging for about 11 hours and the batteries are bubbling like a soda however its taking a way longer charge and the charger is still showing 2/6 charged which means the batteries just need to cycle. Again I'm very grateful for sharing your findings with all of us and id like to thank you again. By the way i use jumper cables to connect them and also learned a valuable lesson not to crank the power too high or it might fry your battery :) (i actually did fry a car battery from a jeep by cranking it to 200 and battery got really hot and few cells stopped working )

Well all I can say is thank you for a great hack. I got the "red" 200 amp welder last week and this past weekend I had an old battery sitting in the shop since 2019,,,it had a 2016 battery date. Went through the steps here on the video and when completed I put it on a trickle charger overnight. Came back the next afternoon and did a battery load test ( 3x to make sure I was actually getting a good reading )and it passed , it was Rock solid good. Now to go through the rest of my scrap batteries to see which ones will wake up.....but that one battery that has been revived just covered the cost of this welder. Thanks again for this great hack.

looking at the comments I think i have something that may help. The welder matters. There is a comment below stating they charged and now the battery is backwards with pos and neg reversed. I think this is because they used a welder capable of mig or tig welding aluminum, whether on a wire feed gun attachment, or just through the actual welder. On these welders, in order to do aluminum, the leads are reversed so you would get their issue. so in the end, I think regardless of welder, you must make sure that your positive lead (stick attachment lead), is plugged into the welder on the positive terminal, and the negative or ground be connected to the welder with the negative connection. To do aluminum with a welder that is capable, one wound put positive on negative and the ground would then go to positive. Make sense? So make sure guys n gals... that both at the battery and at the machine the positive is connected to the welding stick lead and the negative is connected to ground or negative....Hope that helped?

The difference between the red and the yellow welder is duty cycle. The voltages and amperages are almost identical but the red one has a larger duty cycle. That means it can run longer at the higher amperage (say 100 amps). So if you really need to wake up a big boy battery (I found this out on an 8d…1400 cold cranking amps) with the yellow one you might time out the duty cycle before getting the full 5 minutes. Hope that helps, I see a lot of questions about it in the comments.

Thank you very much.I can confirm that this method works.I will try to give info how i did it so maybe someone will find it helpfull.My battery is 75Ah 12V one.It worked perfectly for 3 years without any maintenance at all.First i added 100ml of water to have it enough and over all cells for about half of inch.One cell in my battery was bad.I saw no bubling on charging using my welder on 30A.So i cranked it up to 80A.I keep it running for short time till battery temperature started rising up to 35deg (body temp).Then i made a pause till battery colled down completely.Then i did same thing again.This about temperature is IMPORTANT ..... it must be done as i described.I repeated this for about 15 times.Then i turned it back in to my car.It started at half of key turn.I am testing it today and tomorow i will know.....after cold night.....is this permanent solution or i have to repeat all for more times than i did it now.Battery was not capable to start the car before i tried this.Thank you again and Happy New Year!

For anyone that is stressing if their welder is able to do this or not you must have a DC inverter welder do not do this with a regular ac welder. The reason this works is because DC inverter welders send The amount of current to whatever you set it at, it automatically varies the voltage to meet that current demand. Where as a typical battery charger may be rated at 200a jump but what happens is that with all of this calcification it will raise the internal resistance of your battery. Let's say you put it in 200 amp jump mode, but its only outputting 14-16 volts or so by the time you calculate ohms law theoretically even if you're in 200 amp mode that charger will only be delivering only a few amps to your battery until the resistance is lowered by cranking on the starter which will allow the full 200a jump start to do it's job and will only then be able to deliver the 200amps but it goes directly to the starter. Now with the weld welder on the other hand, he doesn't give a crap about your batteries internal resistance. Because if your battery has a high internal resistance guess what? it's going to raise the voltage so that it can send the full amount of current that you set it to this is how it works. On mine I was watching as I was restoring my battery and in the beginning the voltage was as high as 66 volts and I was worried but this is how it works to break that crap up because in the beginning your battery has a very high resistance whereas a normal 200 amp battery charger starter wouldn't be able to save your battery this will

Oh man, I just bought a new interstate battery from Costco and gave them my old one that had a 42 Month warranty instead of a 36 Month on the new one. Dang! But i was impressed that I got 48 Months on the 42 Month battery before it got weak and sulfated. I almost feel like going back to Costco and getting the old one back and giving the rejuvenation treatment a try.

I did the baking soda method and revived 2 out of 5 of the old batteries I had. I called it a success. Using the high powered welder to charge the battery instead of the normal trickle charger is genius. Thus taking away the need to use the baking soda to activate it.

Baking soda neutralizes sulfuric acid. In other words, it would take the electro out of electrolyte. Haha I don't see how baking soda could activate a lead acid battery. I have used water and baking soda to clean out an old battery.Kept flushing it until it no longer bubbled. Then thoroughly flushed out the battery with clean water. Should use distilled the last few times before refilling it. Charged it it for 24 hours on 2 amp and it worked for, well I don't know. I moved away 2 1/2 years later.

Hi Sweet Project Cars, just come here from the link you sent me from the other video, thank you for that. Trying my stick welder. The lead that would be attached to the body of the work, has a red rubber cover on the clip. I did put this on to the positive terminal. I noticed that your machine has a black handle on that part and you put it on the negative terminal. This would have been my intuitive way also. It is a very old battery and still have three other better one's to try. Anyway, it started bubbling, 2 at first, then up to 5. The battery got fairly hot. It is in a very breezy part of the carport. When it cools down, I might try the other polarity, and stand well clear, which I do anyway. It went from 4.3 v to 3.8 v. This is fun but I do take precautions seriously. Cheers.

Okay, I bought a 200A DC inverter welder yesterday since the original battery in my 2015 TDi gave up the ghost in the cold weather. Rather than spend $200+ on another battery, I figured I'd buy a tool and at least try to revive this thing, plus the two 9 y/o batteries in my Cummins are about done as well. I topped off the level in the TDi battery and zapped it 4 times last night (it cooled off quick in the cold weather). When I was done the battery was at 12.92V. The car fired right up. This AM it also fired right up (20°F). We'll see how long this "fix" last for. I'll zap the truck batteries in the Spring when I need the truck again. BTW, the electrolyte looked completely brown clay colored when done. If this holds out until Spring, I'll flush and put fresh electrolyte in it... it was nasty looking! Reply later if anyone wants a future update on how it worked out longer term.

Hey Mad Mike, Thanks for the great video! KZfaq is awesome for sharing knowledge for all us DIYers. My wife says I need to take a break from my addiction to it. But seriously, I have a half dozen golf cart batteries and slew of other batteries I never returned for cores over the years and if I can save them I may be able to treat her to a date night or two. Happy wife, happy life! So my question is, what makes one welder suitable for the deep cycle batteries and not standard batteries and vice versa? Do they operate differently or is it amperage or adjust ability? Thanks!

I'm not sure any old arc welder will do, it must be a DC welder, and I think the success of the inverter welder is it keeps things a little safer. the circuitry of an inverter welder will turn off on a dead short but it won't do that on a transformer welder, even if it is a DC version.

This process is called "Equalizing" the battery and is standard maintenance process used on led-acid batteries. Most of the time they will put a constant voltage Equalizing charge on it of 15v-16.5v for about an hour depending on the temperatures. At lower temps you can do it at higher voltages. What you're doing is basically the same thing but for a much shorter period of time and using higher voltages. Its actually a really great idea in my opinion because sometimes even at 16.5 volts you still can't push the current through the sulfated layer on the plates. They recommend to do this once every 1-3 months to keep them fresh on batteries that aren't used very often. If it's an AGM battery you need to be more careful to not overheat it. Thanks for the great video.

Did this with 3 × 12 volt deep cycle batteries over a 3 day period. The batteries are 5 year old maintenance-free batteries that my friend had in a golf cart that he sold me last year. The cart would move extremely slowly prior to removal from the cart. After charging, the batteries barely made it above 12 volts and wouldn't maintain the voltage, then returned back to the 11.7 avg. thing that I did was to steam clean the exterior of the batteries with dish soap to remove dirt, grease, and any acid residue. Next, remove the labels covering the screw down caps, and with the caps off, I hooked up a regular charger for fun to see if there were any signs of charging bubbles, but even after an hour, no signs of anything positive happening, until I hooked up the DC inverter welder and I was in a totally different universe where I'm now in control of my batteries destiny thanks to Sweet Project Cars. After working on the batteries on and off for a couple of days, the SOH (STATE OF HEALTH) went from 65-70% to 90% on all 3, and the SOC (STATE OF CHARGE) went from 60-65% to a consistent 97-100%. The only question that I have is that the electrolyte in the cells is extremely dirty. it's obviously the sulfate that has been dislodged from the plates, would it be worth the effort in trying to filter out the crap that's in the electrolytes, and if I did, can I assume better battery longevity and performance? Thanks again!

Got the latest grey Amico welder (which is a nice little welder for sure) that was recommended took an old ancient Legend battery out of my friends barn which was totally dead and sitting on the bare ground for a long time in a frigid climate, hooked it up and turned the knob till it started boiling (about 90 amps or so) I followed the procedure to a "T" and after cooling I charged with a NAPA 2 amp trickle charge for 24 hours it did bring the battery up to the spot right between "replace" and "good" on the NAPA charge gauge and I tried it quick on my 16 HP JD mower which it easily started again and again with no trouble.....I was wondering if Julio ever recommends doing the procedure twice or if there is any detriment to doing it twice if one winds up with a marginal result. Oh BTW a couple things I noticed was if you try a battery and it won't boil regardless of how hard you hit it including (200 amps) its toast take it to the junk yard as the physical electrical pathway internally has been compromised somehow also I had trouble with the battery boiling over as it became warmer about (125 degrees) this was easily corrected with my wife's turkey baster by extracting a little bit (she'll never miss it) LOL .......Julio what do you think? 2nd time around with the procedure? also I ordered the battery charger recommended but still waiting for it . Stick welders are constant current (amps) power sources. Turn the dial to one amperage and it will put out exactly that amperage. When welding, the voltage will change to whatever is needed for the spark to jump the gap between the electrode stick and the work metal. Normally in a battery, the gap between the plates either requires 2 volts to charge, or produces 2 volts. Battery chargers are often sold in 2 amp, 6 amp, 12 amp models, and a few large ones only sold to garages around 80 amps. A typical stick welder runs at 120 amps for a 1/8" welding rod. So what these welders are doing is brute force charging and boiling the water underneath the sulfur scales coating the lead plates and breaking them off allowing the water in the cells to finally touch the plates.
@carpediemarts705
@carpediemarts705 2 жыл бұрын
So David Alton was asking about using a 24 volt charger instead of a welder with 27 volts peak capacity. Just because his listed welder says 27v doesn't mean it is putting out 27v. If when welding, you pull your electrode away from the workpiece too far, the machine will increase the voltage to 27, and when your electrode is too far away for that to jump the gap, the machine shuts off. If a battery is 12v, and you attach a 24v charger to it, it may or may not do anything different than a 12v charger. Depends in the amperage setting you turn the charger into. Using 24v to charge a 12v battery won't do anything special.

Will the cheaper wielder (Deckpro 160 Amp) work with 8V golf cart batteries? Love this video and hoping to make it work with my (6) 8 volt golf cart batteries…that would make my day! Thank you Sweet Project Cars for the time and effort you put into the video and all of your comments. 🙏🏼👍🏼💪🏼

This is a great video, and I am a DIY guy. For me, sometimes it is just time vs money and the opportunity cost at which I will decide if it is worth it. Don't get me wrong, this is a great way to beat the system, but I will just replace it. Thanks for the video.... who knows when I might just do it.

@@SweetProjectCars Nice thank you! I eventually skipped the project today because of heavy frost... I think it will work better at least around +15 C... And since you are so nice I dare to ask: Is it not better to fill in battery acid instead of distilled water? ?? I have them both... and I just wonder, maybe the old battery would require some fresh acid... And is the polarity important where to connect wich cable?? Thank you for the answers. Ps : be careful with the 303 rubber treater I read it can cause harm to the human body.. possibly carcinogen! Just take extra care... It looks really effective, however! Keep on the good work! Respect!

I'm pissed! I just replaced 4 group 31 batteries just the other day! It would have been much cheaper to have simply bought the stick welder. Now I know, thank you for the video, this will not happen again.

I know next to nothing about welding. Bought a "Stark AC welder" a few years ago did not use it at all. Pulled it out and tried this method with 70amps. Thought I did something wrong. I heard a pop and the clamp that I used (may be it was too thin) burned off. But I tested the battery and WOWW!!! its up to 800 plus cranking amps! Thats from a max of 250 CAs after several attempts to charge it after using your previous "bubbling method". Mad Mike big props...this freaking works!

hi Sweet Project Cars. Thank you for the videos. I noticed the welder you recommended for the 6 volt deep cycle charging is no longer available. Could you elaborate on what characteristics would make a good welder choice, or help provide an alternate option? thank you!
