Doesn't seem like bragging to me. LA is expensive, you have to pay tons of taxes, you paid 4k minimum in expenses for the channel, 10k for your editor - sure, your brand deals are likely lucrative (enough), and your tax write-offs will come back to you, but I imagine you have a comfortable middle/upper middle class lifestyle with your channel at this level. I think these videos are great and I hope we get another in 2023! Thanks as always for being one of the most transparent 'tubers.
@RhombonianKnight
@RhombonianKnight 2 жыл бұрын
She lives in a Californian metropolitan area though and would have a total effective tax rate of about 30%. So I'd say she's solidly middle class. Things are expensive here
@chriscze6153
@chriscze6153 2 жыл бұрын
@@RhombonianKnight only 30 percent as someone self employed? That isn't bad, although I forgot to factor in she has to pay her own insurance(s) separately, plus has a dog and car, so it all adds up. I can imagine living in most places out of LA in the USA that 100k before tax would get you a lot farther.
@RhombonianKnight
@RhombonianKnight 2 жыл бұрын
@@chriscze6153 30% for anyone making around $100k pre-tax in California, self-employed or not. Being in the LA region is definitely not cheap though it's a bit cheaper than my home region, the SF Bay Area. Rent is the big killer though in coastal, urban California. She likely pays a quarter to half her average post-tax income on rent.
@trashxraccoon03
@trashxraccoon03 2 жыл бұрын
@@RhombonianKnight Geniuenly not trying to be rude, just confused and curious ... but 30%?! I was always under the impression that americans don't have basic health care and all that stuff because they have low taxes. But 30% is A LOT, where the fuck does that money go?
@Kandralla
@Kandralla 2 жыл бұрын
@@trashxraccoon03 So I don't (and won't) live in California so it may actually be that bad there... but I don't think it is, I think people are confusing "tax bracket" with "net tax". Federal taxes work like this: You have a series of buckets that each represent a different, increasing tax rate. You take all your money and start filling the buckets from lowest to highest until you run out of money then you pay the tax rate assigned to each bucket for all the money in the bucket. So if you make $100K you're going to pay about 10% on $10K 12% on $30K 22% on $45K 24% on the remaining $15K that only partially fills the 24% bucket. Meaning the effective federal rate is around 18% not counting any deductions or credits that would reduce your taxable income. So I think that 30% number is someone taking the highest tax bracket she's in and adding 6% for state and local taxes (which is high because California) to get 30%, it's probably closer to 24%. State and local is going to be different depending on where you live. I live in the State of Florida and we don't have a state income tax relying on sales and property taxes and running a lean government (California has a lot of those services you're talking about, Florida does not), so my tax rate in that scenario is going to be the 18% federal rate. That last bit is the confounding part here because how much sales tax you pay is going to be hard to quantify, but I can guarantee you that is higher in California as well.

It's a taboo that was perpetrated by corporate execs so that they can keep wages artificially low. The more you talk about it, the less the company can keep making excuses like "we had a bad year" when they gave the top big bonuses.

People are weird about money because people are greedy. If people find out you're rich, it's way more likely to attract douchebags into your life. Term gold digger exists for a reason. Business are weird about money because - as a comment before me said, they can pay you way less. If all the employees realise they're getting paid fuck-all they'll all ask for more money which the business wouldn't want.

I know most youtubers get annoyed when people ask how much they make, but I really can't blame people for wanting to know. KZfaq is a more accepted career choice now, but it's still pretty variable as far as actual revenue goes, and I think it's natural for people to be curious about the ups and downs of what kind of money is made depending on the month. I really appreciate you breaking things down and sharing this with us, because it's always confused me why it was a taboo question. it's the kind of thing you'd ask about any other job, but KZfaq in particular it's really hard to find answers. So thank you! and I hope you do continue to make these videos in the future. I don't think it's bragging, and honestly it's nice to see someone doing well for themselves. I'm super grateful that you get to do what you love and still afford to get Hermes all the best treats.

I love when creators are transparent about their wage. I think there'll always be someone who takes that kind of thing as bragging, but I think it's nice to know as a viewer what content creators are making. I think some people just like being a little snoopy, and maybe that's some of it for me, too. But mostly I feel like it gives me something to wrap my head around in terms of youtube as a career and that not every youtuber is automatically dirt poor or a millionaire. I also appreciate the transparency. I'm not someone who would feel betrayed to find out my favorite youtuber/streamer is a multi-millionaire, but I like the show of it. Makes those people feel more trustworthy in the content they're creating.

Don't know what happened, but I guess I should just appreciate KZfaq's algorithm changes 🤷🏻‍♀️ Also, I gotta say that imo, you're the best at making these "what I made in a year from KZfaq" type of video. I think the bragging vs. transparency thing ultimately comes down to your attitude both in how you present the information and whether or not you flaunt your income and/or possessions as a show of said income outside of the financial review videos. I haven’t seen that from you and your concern and mild discomfort over how you handle it are, weird as it may seem, a good thing. To me it shows you’re actively thinking about how you present that and how others are going to perceive it. Glad things are going well for you and I hope 2022 brings you the income you’re hoping for from it :)

At first I was going to say that if you made more than x amount of money I'd consider it bragging, but when you said more than that I didn't feel like you were bragging. It honestly made me incredibly happy to know you were making enough to support yourself, because now I know I can look forward to more consistent content in the coming year. There's definitely a way to make this video be bragging but your candid speech makes me, an audience member, feel respected. And honestly that's the biggest problem I have with big and small celebrities. I don't mind people doing good for themselves (excluding the mega rich who leech off of the suffering of others) but most of the time it isn't the fact that influencers and celebs are doing well financially, its that they stop viewing others as people and view their audience as walking wallets. (kinda like Mr. Krabs in that one episode of spongebob). All-in-all the biggest thing I like about these videos, and your channel as a whole, is that you talk TO your audience not at them.

Honestly I think it would be really great to keep doing this in the future, even as your pay rises. I don't see it as bragging, I see it as success for managing to leverage yourself well, and we love to see people thrive.

I love these and I really enjoy the transparency, I don't think enough influencers are and it's super weird that stuff like this is taboo

Ngl I got mad envy ebbing and flowing throughout the video, but hell yeah nifty video. Its incredibly fair, and it is nice seeing more transparently what earnings are possible, and how it can be broken on KZfaq.

Honestly I really hope you do this video for 2022. I didn’t think I’d care to know or be interested in all this stuff, but then on your podcast you did a little monthly check in and I realized it was really neat and informative. I don’t plan to ever get into social media as a job but I like knowing the breakdown. And let’s be real, most jobs you can type in the job and salary on google and get a low and high number as well as average. Where as with social media it’s a huge difference and hard to know what amount of subs equals what amount of pay. I don’t think it’ll be bragging as long as you present it this same way and throw in jokes about it too :D

Has she ever mentioned in other videos how much her rent is? Cuz that would be her biggest experience to factor into this type of income breakdown.

appreciate the transparency, not that you owe it to anyone, doesn't come off as bragging. i think it might help motivate someone who is considering getting into it. you make good content, you have a good personality, and it's fun to watch. it's nice to hear that you are able to support yourself doing something you like 😊

I don't think it's bragging and i also don't think it's crazy much. Many programmers make a similar amount. Hope you don't feel ashamed of it and can find ways to use it well, for yourself as for others.
