So this is my sister's 2015 VW Scirocco 2.0 TDI with only 39k on the clock and it's done exactly the same as my 5 year old Audi A4 2.0 TDI did to me 8 years ago!
This time I know exactly what to do and therefore my sister won't get ripped off the to tune of £1500 like I did.
To clarify as I mixup my words in the video:
The master cylinder is behind the pedal in the footwell.
The slave cylinder is inside the gearbox.

This experience isn’t unique at all unfortunately the industry is plagued with rip off merchants. It’s part of what puts me off doing it for a living. Fortunately since then I’ve been able to help people save money and no longer get ripped off myself having found a proper garage. Really glad to be able to help, thanks for taking the time to comment ☺️

@@IAMASPANNER same thing happened to me now - told the garage to check the master and slave. Tells me the only thing wrong is the flywheel and plate. Lo and behold the problem still exists after getting that swapped.

A word of caution, from personal experience. The test to confirm a defective master cylinder shown in this video is not definitive. Happily for Mr. Spanner and his sister, it appears that it was the master cylinder in their case. However, clamping off the flexible hose between the master and the slave cylinders and testing for resistance at the clutch pedal will only confirm a defective master cylinder, if the lines aren't already full of air rather than brake fluid - which could happen if the slave cylinder was defective and the lines had already fully drained out. I know this because I performed this check and then replaced my own master cylinder only for the problem (clutch pedal stuck on the floor) to return and then replaced the slave cylinder, which solved the problem. The best advice I could give anyone with this problem is to check for signs of leaking brake fluid inside the cabin at the footwell under the clutch pedal, indicating a defective master cylinder. If you cant find a leak there and you have a model where the the slave cylinder is inside the transmission, take off the engine under-shield and look for signs of leaking brake fluid on the joint between the engine and the bell-housing and also on the inner absorbent liner material on the undershield. The joint between the transmission bell-housing and the engine is not air/water tight (transmission oil is held in the gearbox part of the transmission only) and leaking brake fluid from a defective slave cylinder will eventually make its way out trough this joint.

IAMASPANNER Very sorry for your woes. I too have fallen out of favour with all V.A.G. cars after losing lots of "bangers & mash" when I made the mistake of buying a Fabia R.S. . Despite 6 monthly oil changes it had an enormous appetite for engine oil at 30,000 , and on top of that I learnt late in the day that the semi-auto box was unreliable , prone to trouble and blooming expensive to fix and yes, the main dealers were as much use as a chocolate fireguard. Thanks for this video, it will help me narrow down what my clutch issue might be.

Hi Mehrez, thank you, you’re welcome! To be honest for me that’s not a straight forward question as cars can be great for different reasons. I’d want my family in a Volvo no matter what year but preferably the larger ones and in terms of reliability I’d buy an old Volvo or any age Honda or Toyota because I don’t believe Volvo are as reliable as they used to be. As a drivers car on the road I’d probably buy a BMW.

Update: So what happened was, I completely destroyed my Clutch. I am running Unitronic stage 2. I believe the car was running the stock clutch. I replaced the Flywheel, upgraded the Clutch to a performance Sach Clutch, replaced the Slave Cylinder just to be safe, and I had to replace the Master Cylinder because it was leaking. I believe my main issues were the Clutch and Master cylinder. I couldn't see the Master Cylinder leak because It wasn't leaking from the outside, It was leaking from the side that was inside the car. I spend a lot of money so I am going to cry myself to sleep while a small violin while it plays in the background haha 😅.

Hi Myles, unfortunately diagnosed the long way. The master cylinder definitely broke, we replaced it and then a month later the clutch wouldn't disengage. Bled the system again and it only lasted a week. Reverse bled the system to be absolutely sure and it only last 2 days. Couldn't see any fluid leaking out anywhere but in the end bought all the parts and after removing gearbox could immediately see the slave cylinder had been leaking.

The issue I'm having is my clutch pedal is very stiff when disengaging and very springy as you lift your foot up to engage. Also an intermittent braking fault where when I brake, the brake pedal starts to sink slowly and the braking power is greatly reduced. It's actually quite dangerous. Service history says recent clutch and DMF with master cylinder replacement. I'm at a loss because the braking problem only happens once in a while so I can't really show the garage and the mechanic says the clutch will just take time to bed in. I've driven brand new cars and the clutch pedal is never this stiff nor is the biting point ever this low. Any help/advice appreciated as you seem to have the most experience with this
@IAMASPANNER
@IAMASPANNER 2 жыл бұрын
I don’t have any personal experience with a stiff clutch pedal but a quick Google brings up some common causes. It would be odd for the clutch and flywheel to be replaced without also replacing the slave cylinder. It sounds like there’s wear somewhere else in the system or something hasn’t been fitted properly.
